Prevent submit in a separate function from 'submit handler' in jQuery Validation plugin
You've got a couple problems with your script. 1. validatePwdValid() is defined outside of your submitHandler callback. Functions have 'scope' which essentially determines what variables they have access to. The scope of a function is determined by where the function is defined (barring use of a special utility method known as .call() ... but that's too much for a quick answer). The scope inside the submitHandler() callback is different from the scope where validatePwdValid() is defined. Therefore, validatePwdValid() has no idea what 'e' is. Also, you're not defining pwdValid anywhere... it's undefined... undefined == true always evaluates to false... so form.submit() will never be called.

jquery validation : how to prevent on blur (focus out) validation if focus is lost to a submit button
Yes it is possible, but you have to do it in code rather than in a declarative way. To do it you have to override the 'on' handler for the event - in this case blur (focusout) here is an example on jsfiddle, validate code like this $("form").validate({ onfocusout: function (element, event) { if (element.id === "fname") { this.element(element); } } }); with html like this <form> <label for="fname">First Name</label> <input name="fname" id="fname" class="required number"> <label for="sname">Last Name</label> <input name="sname" id="sname" class="required number"> <input type="submit" /> </form> It is a basic example that validates one field on blur and not the other field. Running a .py script from bash, how can I pass a python variable back to the terminal once the .py is done running?
You can write your variable and its value into an ini file from the python script. In Values.ini file my_var="value" After executing python script, just invoke Values.ini using . operator . Values.ini Now your shell variable $my_var will be having the assigned value. The advantage with this method is that you can assign any number of variables like this. var1="value1" var2="value2" var3="value3"

Running pig script gives the error as: job has failed. Stop running all dependent jobs
After some research, I found that the problem here is LeaseExpiredException. This might be because the output of mapper was removed. One of the reason for this might be due to the quota allocated for the user. In my case, I was running this script in a very large data, and my quota was insufficient to process/store the data. We can check the quota by the following command: hadoop fs -count -q /user/username Thank you.

Form fails to submit after validation
You need to submit the form passed to the submitHandler. You are reselecting the form via jQuery instead. See the api. Try this instead: jQuery("#form_driver").validate({ submitHandler: function(form) { //check if email exists jQuery.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "checkmail.php", data: ({ email: jQuery("#email").val() }), cache: false, success: function(data) { if(data == 0) { alert("Email doesnt exist"); return false; }else if (data==1){ alert("The Email is already linked to your location!"); return false;

Add unobtrusive validation in asp.net on submit of page
Make sure you have the following line in the <appSetting> tag of your web.config file <add key="UnobtrusiveJavaScriptEnabled" value="true"/> You also have to make sure you're posting the form back to an actionmethod that checks if the modelstate is valid and if it is not then you return back to the view. Doing this will activate your validation messages.

Cron not running Python script is script not in home folder
cron is running crontab(5) entries from the home directory of the user. You need to change appropriately the directory i.e. to call the chdir(2) syscall (either thru the cd shell builtin, or inside your python script using os.chdir). You should query the current directory (using getcwd(3), or the pwd command, or the os.getcwd in Python) in your script. Also check your PATH if running commands.

Custom validation after submit button is pressed
If these validations should always be enforce, and by that I mean whenever you attempt to save a App it must have at least 4 questions then you would add like so: class App < ActiveRecord::Base validate :minimum_number_of_questions_required private def minimum_number_of_questions_required if questions.count < 4 errors[:base] << "You must have at least 4 questions attached." end end end If you only wanted it to occur when that form was submitted you could set a variable in the App class that lets the object know that it should actually run the minimum question validation: class App < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessor :validate_questions validate :minimum_number_of_questions_required, if: :validate_questions # same code as above for validatio

Validate fields using JQuery validation without any submit?
You will have to wrap your fields within a form to use the validation plugin and it's a good practice anyway. Also, you can invoke the plugin's validation programmatically and check if the form is valid by doing: var $form = $('#your_form'), validator = $form.validate({...}); //validate the form validator.form(); //check if the form is valid if ($form.valid()) { //form is valid } For more options, have a look at the docs.

Javascript with validation and submit with alert results
If you use core native javascript, you'll probably have issues related to browsers different interpretation/rendering/compatibility. I would strongly suggest you to use a js framework like mootools or jQuery. Then you will be able both to really easily select the form elements and also to properly validate the form. Of course, you'll need first to study a little the choosen framework, but be sure you'll be very happy then :) EDIT: also, bear in mind that any code that references any html element, must be called AFTER the element is created. In other words, you should wrap the function calls in an onload or ondomready event.

error with global name when running a script from another script - python
This is a pretty interesting problem. First a quick workaround, you can provide dictionaries to use as the local and global namespace when calling execfile(), using an empty dictionary for globals works fine: # test_fun1.py a = 1 def test1(): print a execfile('test_fun2.py', {}) test1() Alternatively, if you want the code to execute within the global scope of your module you can use globals() instead of {}. Now on to why this isn't working... from the documentation on execfile(): If both dictionaries are omitted, the expression is executed in the environment where execfile() is called. Here "both dictionaries" is referring to the optional globals and locals arguments to execfile(). In this case "the environment where execfile() is called" is the local scope of the fun

Symfony2 set Entity property after form submit/validation
I think this is because your form has already been bound to the entity. The form has taken the entity's data and is not updated when the entity changes. You can operate directly on the form with: $myForm['someProperty']->setData( false ); but I expect it's better practice to fully reconstruct the form again as per your first line.

Trigger validation of all fields in Angular Form submit
Well, the angular way would be to let it handle validation, - since it does at every model change - and only show the result to the user, when you want. In this case you decide when to show the errors, you just have to set a flag: http://plnkr.co/edit/0NNCpQKhbLTYMZaxMQ9l?p=preview As far as I know there is a issue filed to angular to let us have more advanced form control. Since it is not solved i would use this instead of reinventing all the existing validation methods. edit: But if you insist on your way, here is your modified fiddle with validation before submit. http://plnkr.co/edit/Xfr7X6JXPhY9lFL3hnOw?p=preview The controller broadcast an event when the button is clicked, and the directive does the validation magic.

jQuery dialog partial form submit validation
Ok, so I solved it by adding the following function to the open parameter for the jQuery dialog: open: function () { $(this).parent().appendTo("#userForm"); } I noticed that when initializing a jQuery dialog, even though it was within my form, when the HTML page rendered in the browser, the dialog div was moved outside the form. For the validations to work, the inputs must be within a form. I hope this post helps other people too!

jQuery form validation taking too long on submit
Since we can't see your code and how it validates, maybe you can try your function another way. Try and use the click function on your submit button to validate your items, then if all is good, submit. e.g. $('#btn1').click(function(e){ var valid if($('#ex1').val() == ""){ valid = false; }else{ valid = true; } if(valid){ $("#testform").submit(); }else{ alert("not validated"); } e.preventDefault(); }); See fiddle as example. http://jsfiddle.net/em62Z/1/ Also I use this plugin to validate my forms. It can validate any size form and even some complex fields. https://github.com/posabsolute/jQuery-Validation-Engine It works well and might save your trouble doing your own validation if you are doing your own.

You must return false; to stop the default functionality of the click event from happening, like this: function sendPaymentRequest() { $.ajax({ .... }); return false; // return false here } and change your onclick: onclick="javascript: return sendPaymentRequest()" or you could just do this: onclick="javascript: sendPaymentRequest(); return false;"
