How to install/configure new software in newly created amazon instances using Amazon SDK in java?
The Amazon API primarily controls infrastructure. It does not have any control as to what happens inside the instance. There are a couple of ways you can bootstrap your instance and install software. You can use user-data to pass a script that will run on first launch. You could use a provisioning system like chef or puppet. You could roll your own if it works better for you.

Do I need to configure c3p0 connection pooling for Amazon RDS service?
Amazon RDS is exposed as a web-service. Database connection pooling (with c3p0) is needed when the application has the connection object with itself, which is not the case here. Hope this helps!

Configure Amazon RDS mysql to store Chinese Characters
Make sure that you are using UTF-8 character set. The easiest way to set the charsets permanently is to update your client my.cnf with the following: [client] default-character-set=utf8 Detailed information about the connection charset you can find here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/charset-connection.html When using the MySQL API functions ( PHP client e.g. ) you can set the connection charset by sending the query SET NAMES utf8 You can configure Amazon RDS to use Utf-8 character set by following this blog: http://matthew.mceachen.us/blog/howto-configure-an-amazon-rds-instance-to-use-utf-8-925.html I hope this helps.

Host static web site in Amazon S3 without using Amazon route 53
You can, but it wont work very well. You would need to create a CNAME record to map to the endpoint, which you can't use for apex records. You would need some other way of forwarding traffic from the apex to presumably www.domain.com. S3, Cloudfront either a set of IPs or Geo-DNS to determine which IP address will serve a given request. This is not something you can efficiently replicate in your own DNS. The cost of Route53 is pretty low, depending on traffic, it could hit be a $1 or less per month.

Amazon MWS - How can we update the inventory on Amazon instantly?
The answer is astonishingly simple: If you're running out of stock, don't wait for the next update cycle (the wall clock hitting *:05 again), but send an inventory update right away. Since you're posting the inventory, it is your choice when to do it. Just a side note: You probably will need to limit those updates in some way so that you don't send inventory updates more often than about every 5 minutes, otherwise they'll queue up (in my testing at least). Queued inventory updates won't do you any good.

Configuring Amazon SES Feedback Notifications via Amazon SNS in ASP.NET MVC (C#)
You are on the right track - for the missing part 4 you need to implement receiving of a message from the Amazon SQS message queue you created in step 1. See my answer to Example of .net application using Amazon SQS for where to find a respective example - it boils down to the following code: // receive a message ReceiveMessageRequest receiveMessageRequest = new ReceiveMessageRequest(); receiveMessageRequest.QueueUrl = myQueueUrl; ReceiveMessageResponse receiveMessageResponse = sqs. ReceiveMessage(receiveMessageRequest); if (receiveMessageResponse.IsSetReceiveMessageResult()) { Console.WriteLine("Printing received message. paperclip with amazon s3 working in development but not working in production (amazon ec2)?
Had same issue with image_magic that was breaking our paperclip functionality in production, but not in development (weird, I know). Yet even after removing imagemagick from our gemfile and Gemfile.lock locally (running bundle install and all that stuff) and then deploying back to production on heroku, the error persisted in production! (weird, I know). What ended up doing the trick was running: $ heroku repo:purge_cache -a myAppName (Taken from: https://github.com/heroku/heroku-repo#purge_cache) When you deploy your app, Heroku caches some things like your assets and installed gems in order to speed up deployment. Although this is a great feature, it can have side-effects sometimes, and in this case, it seems that something about the imagemagick gem got "stuck" in production's cache,

C# Amazon SQS to Java Amazon SQS
It should be equivalent to: Amazon.SQS.Model.Attribute sentTimestampx = null; for (Amazon.SQS.Model.Attribute a : x.getAttributes()) { if (a.Name == "SentTimestamp") { if (sentTimestampx == null) { sentTimestampx = a; } else { throw new Exception("Boooooh! there is more than one matching elements!"); } } } I think that a good approximation is to remove the check for more than one matching element and break the loop when you've found one, unless the original intent was really to throw an exception.

amazon ads xml layout
I noticed on this quickstart guide it says that you should have the namespace as "xmlns:Amazon="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/"" I looked in the sample provided in the sdk and for their namespace they didn't use their package name but instead: "xmlns:Amazon="http://schemas.android.com/apk/lib/com.amazon.device.ads"" That first statement is not correct. In the quickstart guide it actually says that the namespace should be: xmlns:Amazon="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/<type your package name>" Note the last part. That's important, because that's exactly the difference you're basing this question on. As with any custom view on Android, if you want to use one or more attributes that aren't covered by the Android namespace, you have to declare their location first.

ssh through python onto amazon ec2
The Boto EC2 documentation here describes the EC2 instance object, of which "key_pair" is an attribute. Look about 3/4 of the way down, under "boto.ec2.instance". http://boto.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ref/ec2.html So, e.g., you could run some instances as follows, and then store the first instance as "inst": reservation = conn.run_instances(...) inst = reservation.instances[0] To retrieve your key-pair name as a unicode string, just use: kp_name = inst.key_name You can then retrieve the corresponding Boto object using get_key_pair: kp_obj = conn.get_key_pair(kp_name) Of course, this is a silly example, since I would have needed my key pair name to run_instances in the first place. May you find a more fruitful application!

Error using Amazon S3 with FineUploader
I don't think you quite understood the documentation or the examples. You need a server side component to sign the requests that Fine Uploader sends. It looks like you are pointing Fine Uploader at a JSON file, for some reason. I'm guessing you copied the example signature file from the blog post and are pointing Fine Uploader at that? The example signature file was detailed in the blog post to give you some insight into how Fine Uploader S3 generates the policy document for simple uploads for you. You don't need to store a copy of this anywhere. You need a proper server side component to sign the requests Fine Uploader sends to S3, at the very least. There are already 5 fully functional server side examples for Fine Uploader S3 in https://github.com/Widen/fine-uploader-server. In

Amazon MWS (PHP) - How does the request work
The answer to your question comes in two parts. Part 1 - Calling the Amazon API Most MWS requests do not require any file (be it plain text or XML) to be sent to Amazon. For example, all parameters needed to do send RequestReport can (and must) be sent as regular parameters. I'm not sure what Amazon would do if you did submit a file along with it as I've never tried. But then again... why would you? One of the calls that does require a file to be send is the SubmitFeed call where that file is the actual feed to be submitted. It depends on the type of feed you're submitting if Amazon expects it to be plain text or XML. Part 2 - Handling Amazon's API responses When you get information back from Amazon's API, it usually is in XML format (there are a few calls that may return plaintext in

Why do people recommend against using Amazon RDS?
The only thing that you would give up by using RDS, are the logs, unfortunately RDS doesn't provide a full set of logs which sometimes are vital for debugging. If you can live without them and you have a strong testing before going to production then RDS is the way to go.

MAX operations in Amazon DynamoDB
There is no cheap way to do this without adding space or complexity. The expensive way would be to scan the entire table, retrieving only the key attributes and the attributeName attribute, compute the max, and then get all of the (complete) items that you found with that max. If you have a compound key (hash and range) and few hash keys relative total items in the table, Local secondary indexes would help, and cost only a little little space. You could have an index on the attributeName attribute, and then query against each hash key using that index, and the "isScanIndexForward:false" and "limit:1" to get the "max" from that hashKey. Then you compute the max of all results (1 result from each hashkey), and you know the value to retrieve. You can retrieve them all in much the same

Amazon / Ebay products APi
To to load stock on/off of Amazon through an API, you'll need a professional selling plan with them. That costs $40/month, but also waives the $.99 per item closing fee, so depending on what you're into on Amazon, it could more than pay for itself as well as allowing you access to the Amazon MWS API (instead of the more open/free Amazon Products API). Through the MWS API, you can add stock to your Amazon sellers account, process orders, and pull information about the products you currently have in stock, etc. For adding to the Amazon cart, you've got a couple different options. The most promising is probably using the Amazon Products API to set up a remote shopping cart on your site and then the customer is sent to Amazon to checkout. To achieve what it sounds like you want for eBay, yo

How to set up custom domain for an app on Amazon EC2?
First you need to set an ElasticIP for associated to that instance. Then point the DNS entry of "www" for "my-domain-name.com" to the IP assigned in the step above. Where you manage your DNS is another thing, can be in GoDaddy or in AWS Route53. You must adjust the delegation DNS in the "my-domain-name.com" register. Ex: your domain can be registered with GoDaddy but its delegation DNS point to Route53 so you can manage the domain from your AWS Console.

Connecting Android app to amazon RDS
Does Amazon offer some API/service for Android - RDS connection? No. AWS does not currently have an API for interacting with an RDS instance. Do you know any sample code that handles this aspect? You may want to access your database with PHP and get a JSON response. If your RDS instance is using MySQL then you’re in luck. There is already a lot of documentation on connecting Android to MySQL using PHP. You can get great sample code and instructions on this blog post. Here is a very popular reference for connecting Android and MySQL.

Amazon AWS Permissions Per User
A couple of things. Firstly, please for the love of God, migrate to AWS SDK for PHP 2. SDK 1.x is on the way out, and hasn't received any updates in a while. Having done that, you can use S3Client::putBucketPolicy() to grant access to a bucket by Canonical User ID (a.k.a., Account ID). That way, you push the responsibility of managing access control back onto the S3 service. When a user tries to access the object, they'll either get a 200 (201, 204, 304, 307), or a 403 if they're not allowed to access it. If you choose to stay on SDK 1.x, the equivalent method is AmazonS3::set_bucket_policy().

Amazon EC2 cloud hosting
There are multiple ways to host a webserver in front and redirect requests to multiple tomcat servers in backend. Assuming you have webserver and multiple tomcat servers deployed over a EC2 and tomcat. Using ajp or mod_proxy or mod_jk, you can redirect requests hitting on your webserver to your backend tomcat servers. By default, AWS does not provide cookie or session management. You can use AWS Elasticache for session management. Yes, you can upload your images and other static content on Amazon S3 and deliver it from S3 itself or using CloudFront (CDN) while your dynamic requests are coming to your tomcat servers. Your questions was too broad. If you provide more details, we can help more. Thanks Sanket

Amazon SQS - Messages keep appearing
SQS guarantees that the message will be delivered at least once. They make no assurance that it won't be delivered a whole bunch of times. SQS is really neat in that it scales, but you actually pick up some odd behaviors due to how they made it scale, like this and messages being delivered out of order that make it a little bit of a hassle for projects that don't really need scale.
