It must be wrapped into ServletException or similar. You can see that printing class name of exception. catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex.getClass().getName() + " filter caught exp--"+ex.getMessage()); throw new ServletException(ex.getMessage()); } EDIT catch(Exception ex) { Throwable t = ex.getCause(); if (t != null && t instanceOf MyException) { MyException m = (MyException) t; //handle your exception. } else { //handle other cases } }

Exception starting filter WebSocket filter netbeans 7.3 glassfish 4
I see a couple of problems with your project here. First of all, you have a URL mapping overlap between Struts and WebSocket. Your WebSocket URL is /endpointwcv. Your Struts mapping is /*. When I finally got your app to deploy, I was getting errors from Struts about how there's no mapping for the action /endpointwcv. If you change the mapping of the Struts filter servlet to /struts/* (and I had to change the filter-class to org.apache.struts2.dispatcher.ng.filter.StrutsPrepareAndExecuteFilter to avoid error messages about how FilterDispatcher is deprecated), you can access the WebSocket endpoint by going to http://localhost:8080/WebApplication5/Conference.html. In the GlassFish4 server.log, I was seeing output from NewWSEndpoint: INFO: aaaa INFO: error INFO: error INFO: error ... INFO: C

Spring mongodb exception HTTP Status 500 - Filter execution threw an exception
Looks to me like you might have a mismatch between the MongoDB driver version you're developing against and the one on the webserver. MongoClient only came in version 2.11, so my suspicion is that the version of the driver you have in Tomcat is older.

laravel 4 filter Exception
This exception is telling that the page you are accessing doesn't exist. What you have done is defined a route filter called birthday. What you would do is attach this to a route like so: Route::get('/', array('before' => 'birthday', 'use' => 'HomeController@index'); This will execute the birthday filter whenever someone accesses the home (/) route. You need to actually create a route called birthday. What I would do is something like below: Route::get('/birthday', array('before' => 'check', 'use' => 'BirthdayController@index'); Then in the filters.php, add the following: Route::filter('check', function() { if (date('d/m/y') == '12/12/84') { return View::make('birthday'); } }); This code may be a little different depending on your naming conventions

exception handling for filter in spring
Filters happens before controllers are even resolved so exceptions thrown from filters can't be caught by a Controller Advice. Filters are a part of the servlet and not really the MVC stack.

Servlet Filter not working when exception is thrown
i think you should use for this purpose own exceptions handler which can be defined in web.xml and in case of exception you should process it inside exception handler and not in filter. you can get more details in article "Servlets - Exception Handling"

PrimeFaces FileUpload Filter ClassNotFound Exception
I gather that you mean the Eclipse-specific user library management when you said "user library" there. I also gather that you've PrimeFaces already installed, otherwise this is food for Mr. Obvious. Its FileUploadFilter will indeed fail to initialize like that if Commons FileUpload and/or Commons IO are absent. You should see a NoClassDefFoundError further in the stack trace. Just creating a new "user library" and adding to Build Path of project's properties is not exactly the right way. They also need to end up in /WEB-INF/lib of the built WAR. Usually, you'd need to add the user library in Deployment Assembly section of project's properties as well. However, this whole process is unnecessarily clumsy. Just drop those two JAR files in /WEB-INF/lib folder of dynamic web project. Eclipse

Exception starting filter struts2 - tried adding JAR's, but same result
Since you are using Struts 2.3, FilterDispatcher is deprecated. You MUST use StrutsPrepareAndExecuteFilter (or its little brothers). From the official documentation Deprecated. Since Struts 2.1.3, use StrutsPrepareAndExecuteFilter instead or StrutsPrepareFilter and StrutsExecuteFilter if needing using the ActionContextCleanUp filter in addition to this one change then this <filter-class> org.apache.struts2.dispatcher.FilterDispatcher </filter-class> to this <filter-class> org.apache.struts2.dispatcher.ng.filter.StrutsPrepareAndExecuteFilter </filter-class>

Exception starting filter springSecurityFilterChain - org.springframework.beans.factory.NoSuchBeanDefinitionException
I might be wrong, but if you use AnnotationConfigWebApplicationContext and specify only a package name in contextConfigLocation, Spring will scan that package only for classes with a stereotype annotation (@Component, @Controller, @Service, etc), so your WebAppConfig is basically ignored. Try giving the fully qualified name of WebAppConfig as contextConfigLocation.

Adding the description variable to all posts and re-running jekyll build sorted the problem.

Serialization throws exception
XmlSerializer does not handle properties of type IList<T>. There are some workarounds, the most straightforward of which is to change the type of the property to List<T>. Add appropriate [Serializable] and Xml attributes to your class. Adding Snippet, [Serializable] public sealed class BackgroundTaskDescription { public BackgroundTaskDescription() { Subject = string.Empty; Message = string.Empty; dueTime = string.Empty; Emails = new List<string>(); } public string Subject { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } public string dueTime { get; set; } public List<string> Emails { get; set; }

Why Downcasting throws Exception?
Let me rename your classes to make things more clear. Base -> Animal. Derived -> Cat. Just because you're an Animal doesn't mean you're a Cat. You could be a Dog. That's why it's illegal to cast an Animal into a Cat. On the other hand, is every Cat an Animal? The answer is "yes". That's why you could write code like this: Animal animal = new Cat(); or Cat cat = new Cat(); Animal animal = cat; Also what's worth noting is you can do this: Animal animal = new Cat(); Cat cat = (Cat) animal; The reason you can do this is that your animal variable is actually referencing a Cat instance. Therefore you're allowed to cast it back into a variable that references a Cat.

DatePicker throws an exception for Visibility
Caliburn.Micro has a "catch all" convention definied on the FrameworkElement which binds your matching property on the viewmodel to the FrameworkElement.VisibilityProperty AddElementConvention<FrameworkElement>( FrameworkElement.VisibilityProperty, "DataContext", "Loaded"); Because Caliburn.Micro does not know about the Microsoft.Phone.Controls.DatePicker type or its base classes (DateTimePickerBase, Control) it fallbacks to the FrameworkElement convention and it tries to bind your DateTime to the DatePicker VisibilityProperty so you see the exception in the Output window. There are two solutions: Write the binding by hand: <toolkit:DatePicker Value="{Bidning DateOfBirth}" /> Create a custom convention, which is in this case: ConventionManager.AddElementConvention<

MVEL2 on android throws exception
MVEL2 tries to substring the first 3 characters of the system java.version property when initializing the parser, and under Android the version is 0. That causes a bunch of exceptions which eventually cause the ExceptionInInitializerError. If you want to force the java.version property, you can simply set it yourself: System.setProperty("java.version", "1.6"); I have no idea what kind of odd side effects this may cause for Android, but at least it gets the MVEL parser up and running without throwing exceptions!

wglCreateContext throws INVALID_OPERATION exception
The results are quite undefined if you call GL functions (like glGetError() itself) without having a current GL context. wglCreateContext() is part of the Win33 API (and not the GL API) and will signal errors by returning a NULL pointer. You can call the Windows API function GetLastError() if you want details in that case, like with most other Windows API functions.

JSObject.getWindow(this); always throws an exception?
This drove me nuts once upon a time. Java7 apparently comes with 2 jars that include different implementations of this same class. jfxrt.jar and plugin.jar I solved issues with these by simply removing jfxrt.jar from my classpath. You'll have to dig for how to do that for your build system. In Intellij, you can go to: File -> Project Structure -> SDKs Then, on the classpath tab, highlight jfxrt.jar and click '-' ETA: I found the answer that originally helped me that has a bit more info: http://stackoverflow.com/a/14156602/1057157

Exception thrown by throws will be caught?
you need try catch block around your fileReader. That is how you "catch" your errors. try{ FileReader f = new FileReader("C:/as"); }catch(FileNotFoundException e){ //handle exception } that is what you need. Stating throws exception in method line, from my knowledge, is there so you as a programmer know what is being handled in the method.

Going forward we will not be able to support using the visual studio hosting process for debugging. You can turn it off by: Open your project in VS Open your projects properies click the debug tab untick "use visual studio hosting process" rebuild your application and begin debugging and it should work ok.

Why retainAll in ArrayList throws an Exception
When you use List#subList(): Returns a view of the portion of this list between the specified fromIndex, inclusive, and toIndex, exclusive. (If fromIndex and toIndex are equal, the returned list is empty.) The returned list is backed by this list, so non-structural changes in the returned list are reflected in this list, and vice-versa. The returned list supports all of the optional list operations supported by this list. You are allowed to mutate elements within it but not change the structure of the list. The doc further says : The semantics of the list returned by this method become undefined if the backing list (i.e., this list) is structurally modified in any way other than via the returned list. (Structural modifications are those that change the size of this list, or othe

My code throws org.hibernate.ObjectDeletedException exception
First: The reason for your error is you have cascade set to ALL on User.getBooks(), which will delete its books when you delete the User. Then, in the same session, you attempt to re-add the deleted objects when you add the DeactivatedUser back (which contains the same Books -- while you don't show your code for constructing a DeactivatedUser from a User, I presume you are making a shallow copy of Books, as you should). Change cascade to SAVE_UPDATE. Second: I highly recommend keeping them all in the same table with a flag field that indicates if they are deleted or not. Do not optimize prematurely. Unless you've actually benchmarked your code and found a bottleneck in database queries related to active vs. inactive users, there's no benefit to over-complicating your schema and business
