Unable to access Samba folder from Windows (Using Raspberry Pi XMBC as a Samba Server)
That may depend on the directory and file rights. If the us who runs smb have no access rights, you can't read or write files. You can find out file permissions with ls -la you will also see owner and owner group. You can try to set read and write permissions for all (chmod 777 directory -R). If this was the problem, then you should give read and write permissions only to the user that runs smb. Set permissions for all back to 0 (770) because of security reasons. Here you find a tutorial on set up samba for Rasapberry Pi.

Deployment to instances using JBoss 7.1 as domain controller
In the end I did two things: I am using jboss-web.xml to specify a context root, which is the same for all deployments (which is OK, because we have one deployment for each server group). I started a feature request for the runtime-name parameter which is missing the JBoss 7 Maven plugin: https://github.com/jbossas/jboss-as-maven-plugin/issues/52

Rails deployment using thin on windows vs linux
Ruby is slow when running under windows. Also take a look at this topic for a detailed explanation: Why is ruby so much slower on windows? Basically, most best practices for achieving higher performance in any other environment do apply, but running Rails on Windows will probably never be faster than running it on Linux. Ruby 1.9.3 will be faster than 1.8.7, so if you're still running 1.8.7, that could be a start.

How Should I Debug Samba with GDB
Download samba source code from http://www.samba.org and compile it (without source code, it will be impossible to do symbolic debugging). Stop or kill any other samba instances. Start samba under gdb: gdb <path/to/compiled/smbd> Specify smbd parameters: set args -i -M single Parameters -i -M single force smbd to start as single process, do not daemonize and print all messages and errors to stdout/stderr. Now, you can set breakpoints and trace your source code as you normally would with any other program. Note: instead of using gdb, you might find more convenient to use gdb-tui (gdb text user interface), or use other debuggers like ddd.

Automount samba folder on Mac
I followed https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3221944?start=15&tstart=0 The key is setting the mount point in your home directory is by following three steps. Add this line to the end of /etc/auto_master: /- auto_smb Created /etc/auto_smb with the following line: /Users/user/mount -fstype=smbfs,soft smb://domain;user:password@server/folder Run automount: automount -vc The troubleshooting points are: If you encounter "Too many users" you need to review your SMB path for syntax errors. Also be careful of incorrect username / passwords, or passwords with special symbols. e.g. @ would need to be replaced with %40.

Azure worker role deployment fails if I don't delete the previous deployment
I did more research and I think I may know what's going on. Apparently Visual Studio tries to upgrade your worker roles in place when you deploy. If that fails, for some reason such as you changing service configuration between deployments, it just complains that there's something wrong with your role and that your instance is recycling. In deployment options there is an option called 'If deployment can't be updated, do a full deployment' which will delete the existing deployment and deploy from scratch if the existing deployment can't be updated. I'm not sure why this isn't checked by default instead of 'fail mysteriously'.

Android - Mount a Samba share in code
Probably smbfs/cifs are currently not supported by your kernel. As Delyan said, ensure your kernel can mount these filesystem : $ cat /proc/filesystems nodev sysfs nodev rootfs nodev bdev nodev proc nodev cgroup nodev tmpfs nodev debugfs nodev sockfs nodev usbfs .... If they are not listed, you should try to do a modprobing (sometimes the module you want just have to be activated), get root access then : # modprobe <modulename(without.ko)> e.g. : # modprobe cifs If it doesn't work you will have to change or recompile your kernel (including appropriate modules).

Why would my samba connection fail after an upgrade to windows 2012?
Windows Server 2012 includes latest version of SMB protocol 3.0 and it full of really interesting updates and improvements (details and some relevant discussion here). As with any serious improvements there is a compromise in terms of legacy clients support. Probably there is no support for SMB 3.0 on your Samba client side or some backward compatibility should be enabled on Server 2012 side.

"Connection refused" means that host is not listening on that port. You need to ensure the samba service is running on that host. I would check you can mount the file system as a drive letter first.

Does Java thread-safety apply to all instances of a class or just shared instances?
Your assumptions about thread safety are correct. It boils down to fields/state on the same instance being modified by multiple threads. In your first question the threads all manipulate their own instance of Dog so the approach is thread safe. In the second question the instance is passed into the static method so once again your working with different instances of the class. If the Dog class contained static fields and the static method manipulated those fields that would not be thread safe, but non final static fields are really never thread safe.

Are AWS reserved EC2 instances applied to free marketplace instances?
For the CentOS AMI you would want to select Linux/Unix or Linux/Unix (VPC), depending on whether you are running in EC2 classic or in a VPC. The reason the other platform types are present in the list is because there is an accompanying additional licensing fee that is baked into the per hour server usage cost for those types of servers. SUSE, Redhat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Windows Server + SQL Server all require a paid-for license (which Amazon bakes into the usage cost). This does not apply to CentOS; the "platform" in this case is just "Linux/Unix" (or Linux/Unix (VPC)).

Reasoner returns no instances of owl:Thing, but Abox contains instances
I'm not much of an OWL API user, but I suspect that what's happening is that the ABox axioms that you're including in the second case don't include the individual declarations for the individuals that the axioms talk about, and that as a result, the ABox axioms are getting ignored. From the OWLAPI source, the ABoxAxiomTypes are defined as: public static final Set<AxiomType<?>> ABoxAxiomTypes = new HashSet<AxiomType<?>>( Arrays.asList(CLASS_ASSERTION, SAME_INDIVIDUAL, DIFFERENT_INDIVIDUALS, OBJECT_PROPERTY_ASSERTION, NEGATIVE_OBJECT_PROPERTY_ASSERTION, DATA_PROPERTY_ASSERTION, NEGATIVE_DATA_PROPERTY_ASSERTION, DATATYPE_DEFINITION)); I expect that if you add photo1's OWLDeclarationAxioms firs

Use reflection to get instances of static instances of derived class
It's important to understand that it's the field which is static - not the instance. You can easily find readonly static fields though, and fetch their values. For example: var someAssembly = typeof(Foo).Assembly; // Or whatever var values = from type in someAssembly.GetTypes() from field in type.GetFields(BindingFlags.Static | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.NonPublic) where field.IsInitOnly && field.FieldType == typeof(LocalisationToken) select (LocalisationToken) field.GetValue(null);

AWS instances patch updates for multiple instances
For this situation you might be more or less forced to do this by hand, but in the future a design makeover would be in order to make your life easier for dealing with stuff like this. I would recommend that you look into puppet or Chef as they enable you to script your infrastructure and when you have updates/changes that need to occur, you apply them to the systems in question or just rebuild the system over again. For this scenario if you were to use Chef, you would just update your scripts and tell chef to update all of your systems. Granted, I know that this bit of information doesn't help your current predicament, but it's a recommendation for future environments to alleviate issues like these.

Exec(Linux). How it functions internally? Linux executable attributes(rlimit)
The RLIMIT_CORE is used to place a limit on the amount of info that coredump is allowed to produce, before it is aborted. Once this limit is hit, no more info is logged and the message Aborting Core is logged to the console. From the man page of core : A process can set its soft RLIMIT_CORE resource limit to place an upper limit on the size of the core dump file that will be produced if it receives a "core dump" signal. Use setrlimit() to configure RLIMIT_CORE to a larger value to obtain complete coredumps. The most common format of executables/shared-objects is ELF. On Linux, the dynamic loading and linking of these shared-objects is performed by ld.so ld.so is loaded in the address space of a newly created process (by exec in this case) and executed first. This is possible as

Linux users', specifically Apache, permissions settings, [Linux noob :]
usually any daemon will need to access a number of ressources. it is therefore good practice to run each daemon under a special user:group, rather than nobody:nogroup. traditionally (e.g. on Debian systems) apache runs as www-data:www-data. finally, user permissions take precedence over group permissions (which in turn take precedence over other permissions). this means that a directory where the user does not have write perms but the user's group can write is effectively r/o for that user (but not for other members of the group)

Write C++ on Windows but use Linux System calls through a Linux emulator
You've already tagged your question with Cygwin. That seems like the best solution for what you want. Cygwin is basically a collection of programs which emulate a GNU/LInux environment through the use of a DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API layer providing substantial Linux API functionality. Here's the link to the documentation for its API Edit: Most of the Cygwin source code that I've looked at is written in C++ and makes system calls using MS Windows API to do provide the *nix emulation. The source is well written and very readable (even to to a non-C++ programmer such as myself). I think using Cygwin would be a good transition from programming on Windows to a GNU/Linux environment.

Do i need to install mono on every Linux PC to run .NET application on Linux platform?
"can I run a mono application on a machine that doesn't have mono installed": no; the same as you can't run a java application on a machine that doesn't have java installed. And at the same time (to both): yes. There are tools that attempt to make this work, but they tend to be fiddly and a bit unreliable. However, it should also be noted that several (not all, by any means) distros ship with mono by default.

fedora linux --- compiling first linux module
As guido said, you have to match your current kernel and the kernel-devel package. To get your kernel version run uname -r I get 3.6.10-4.fc18.x86_64, download that kernel-devel version sudo yum install kernel-devel-3.6.10-4.fc18 Or update your system and boot with the new kernel, I believe those two will automatically match.

using old object instances/previous object instances
Check out the singleton pattern: http://www.oodesign.com/singleton-pattern.html Make sure that you never instantiate more than one instance of the MainMenu form, then refer to that form whenever you want to. You may have to instantiate it at a larger scope, such as the "Main" Sub (or whatever the VB equivalent is to public static void Main() in C#). EDIT: In a VB Windows Forms project, if you don't feel comfortable disbling the application framework, you can still instantiate any other forms from your startup form. If MainMenu is your startup form, then be sure to set MainMenu as the owner of Form2. So it might look like: Public Class MainMenu Public Sub Foo() ' This is wherever you instantiate Form2 Dim frm2 As New Form2() ' There are a few ways to declare frm2's own

Qt5 Deployment on Windows
Do I have to include all these Qt dlls with my application? Statically linking is rare. You are probably using LGPL licensing, so you should dynamically link. Towards the bottom of the page you mentioned in your link, it gives an example project's dll dependencies. When looking at the release build of the Plug & Paint executable (plugandpaint.exe) with the depends tool, the tool lists the following immediate dependencies to non-system libraries: And then it gives the chart of a bunch of dll's. Depending on the modules in your .pro file you will need different dll's and different runtime compiler dependencies. Hope that helps.

Heroku after deployment
If you've already deleted public/index.html, then you'll need to create a valid root route. Replace route to: 'home_controller#index' with the following: # config/routes.rb root to: 'home#index' Note that the word controller is not included in the controller#action notation. Hence, home#index is valid, but home_controller#index is not. Once you've done this, commit your changes to version control and redeploy to Heroku.
