How to / best way to wait for Mongod instance to start before proceeding
The subprocess has started by the time subprocess.call returns, but it might not have started listening on a socket yet. We have to solve this problem in PyMongo's self-tests, so we wrote a wait_for method: https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-python-driver/blob/master/test/high_availability/ha_tools.py#L72 The gist is, try connecting to mongod's port. If it isn't listening yet, keep trying. If you've tried too many times, something's wrong (disk full, bad command-line parameters, etc.).

Unable to start debugging on the web server. Unable to connect to the webserver
Verify that your web.config has the following entry: <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="2.0" /> Note: If you are targeting framework 1.1, then obviously change the 2.0 to 1.1. UPDATE: The `targetFramework` attribute is new in .NET 4.0 and later, so to enable debugging on .NET 2.0 and earlier, then you cannot use the `targetFramework` attribute, like this: <compilation debug="true" />

God : Unable to start without sudo
Reading the God website: you need to sudo if you're using events on Linux or want to use the setuid/setgid functionality System event listening require root permissions, so sudo is required. Also, if you want god to spawn processes under different user ID from your own, sudo is equally required. This is the basic permission requirement in UNIX.

Add the line -XX:-UseCompressedOops to eclipse.ini and check out if it works. Obviously, you need to remove the last line -XX:+UseCompressedOops. And which version of eclipse did you downloaded: 32 bit or 64-bit eclipse? They both must be same bitwise for compatiblity.

Mac OSX - mongod and mongo not working
Try starting mongod with --config option specified. Something like /path/to/mongod --config /path/to/mongodb.conf. In your mongodb.config check the location to the mongodb log. You should find additional details about errors there. Possible problems are: db path does not exist or is not writable, after an unclean shutdown mongod.lock file still exists etc.

Unable to start Android Studio after installation
You need to set your JAVA_HOME path, which will allow Android Studio to run. Have you done that? Here is how to do that: Right click your Computer icon, and click Properties Windows 8 Users: Then click Advanced System settings to your left. Now, go to the advanced tab, click Environment variables, under system variables, click New, and add a JAVA_HOME variable, it should look like this (relative to your jdk version, if its the latest it should be identical). If you already have that covered I found a solution here that can help you: Go to your AndroidStudio directory where you installed your studio Like D:UserAndroidStudio In AndroidStudio go to AndroidStudiopluginsgradlelib and copy gradle.jar Paste this gradle.jar file to AndroidStudiolib directory. how to solve unable to start service exception
You are accessing Network from Main thread of Service, change the network access to a background thread (Async Task) or use IntentService Note that services, like other application objects, run in the main thread of their hosting process. This means that, if your service is going to do any CPU intensive (such as MP3 playback) or blocking (such as networking) operations, it should spawn its own thread in which to do that work. See docs of Service

How can I set up logging for node-mongod-native?
Replicated below is: a copy of the answer to this question I posted on the node-mongodb-native google group After looking at the most recent version of the code (commit 0fd78b3278da8deac980cb876fcb2bf72eaafb79) it looks like logging isn't really implemented yet. First some ground rules: If you create a server config object (http://mongodb.github.io/node-mongodb-native/api-generated/server.html?highlight=server#Server) and set the logger object there that's ok. If you create a Db() object and set a logger in its options then it will override any logger you have set its server config. If you create a MongoClient() object this is equivalent to new Db('test', serverOptions, options) so you can set your logger object in either serverOptions or options. I'm not going to cover MongoClient.Conn

Mongod 2.4 not running Fedora 19 freeze
I found the bug. It is the MOngoDB rpm fault. Mongo is looking for /var/run/mongo/mongod.pid and the path is /var/run/mongodb/mongodb.pid. Hope they will fix this. As for now no fix for this in fedora 18/19.

MongoDb runs only with mongod but not with mongo
Well, there's not much information to go on, but the usual check list is: check mongodb's logs, see if it reports anything odd (like a failure to start or a shutdown when there should be none). make sure mongodb is actually scheduled to be started automatically - if it's not, there's nothing surprising about it not running. EDIT: I forgot to mention the MongoDB lock file, but I see you already covered that. If it's meant to run but doesn't and doesn't log anything, it would suggest that it was shut down sometime after your computer was booted up and you need to restart it. Calling mongod starts the server, but not in daemon mode - killing the shell in which it runs will kill the process. I'm sure there's a wealth of documentation about starting MongoDB in daemon mode.

Unable to start MySQL daemon: segmentation fault
I've found the problem: it seems that you can't add spaces to sql_mode. This bug happens to MySQL as well. So you have to write: sql_mode = "REAL_AS_FLOAT,PIPES_AS_CONCAT,ANSI_QUOTES,TRADITIONAL" It seems a bug, since on MySQL and MariaDB documentations have examples with whitespaces. The strange fact is that I had to uninstall MariaDB and reinstall it to work again with it, but this time when I readded the sql_mode setting, started the daemon, removed the sql_mode and restarted the daemon, it worked and I had not to reinstall it another time.

Unable to start a tomcat debug session from Eclipse
I solved my issue : there were a packet inspection activated on the firewall between my PC and the server. It lets certain TCP packets trough, so the TCP handshack can occure, but block data TCP packet. As I understand, first, a TCP connection is made, then an application handshake is done by the java server with TCP data packet. As data packet was filtered by the firewall, the application handshake could not been completed, and the application close the TCP connection by sending a FIN packet. Regards, Robert

php and error "start-stop-daemon: unable to stat"
Well come to find out the problem has to do with the start-stop-daemon --stop, in particular the --exec $DAEMON part was not what I should have been using and I should have been using --name $NAME. This because --exec is looking for a command and the daemon was written in php (an interpreted language) therefor it is actually calling php, which then calls my php program (crystal_send), and since start-stop-daemon is looking for a command /bin/crystal_send instead of /bin/php /bin/crystal_send it won't find it. Therefor you should have start-stop-daemon look for the name in the process table, this is what i am doing when I use --name $NAME. So my final do_stop function looks like this ## /etc/init.d/crystal_send NAME=crystal_send DAEMON=/bin/$NAME PIDFILE=/var/run/crystal/$NAME.pid

NativeActivty will not start - Unable to load native library
It seems this error will come up ambiguously if there are dependant libraries that cannot be found. Since I'm using vs-android, I'm still unsure how to even get the external .so files to properly be included in the apk under the /libs/ path. The only solution to include external .so files is to somehow get the libraries into your apk and link them manually within code, call System.loadLibrary() on the Java side before your native library gets loaded, or have one native library load the libraries and then launch your main library.

Unable to start Neo4j on Windows, no error messages
I've fixed it. With help from Neo4j's Google Group, I looked at the logs in data/logs/*.log and data/graph.db/messages.log, and found the following exception: Caused by: java.rmi.server.ExportException: Port already in use: 1337; nested exception is: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind Once I disabled my other service that uses that port, Neo4j's web admin at http://localhost:7474 worked. I then found out port 1337 is used by Neo4j's remote shell, I disabled it by adding enable_remote_shell = false to neo4j.properties, then I was able to have both Neo4j and my other service running.

Can't connect to mongodb locally even though mongod is running
I gotten the same problem on CentOs 6.4 (Mongo 2.4.5, but actually it happens in other versions too). There is weird threading issue. I debugged mongo and found workaround. The problem is the line TextView matni=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.textView2); In an Activity calling findViewById without specifying the view checks the current activity's setContentView view. The problem is you are calling setContentView(R.layout.dovomi); after calling findviewbyid. Just make sure to call setContentView() before any of the base findViewById calls. So in your second class just put setContentView(R.layout.dovomi); after the super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

Unable to debug Whitelisted device / ApplicationSession failing to start
The solution is to tick the "Send this Chromecast's serial number to Google when checking for updates" box and then "Reboot Chromecast". (Thanks, methai). The issue was that there is a bug in the Android Chromecast app (in version 1.1.1), where this setting doesn't actually get saved. I can confirm the OS X client will save this setting properly, haven't tested the other versions yet.
