text-align:center not working with div elements
This can be done with by using an inline block display, the float:left will always send the elements to their furthest left possible. .gallery{ text-align: left; border-style: solid; border-width:3px; border-top-left-radius: 40px; border-bottom-right-radius: 40px; background:yellow; width:335px; padding:20px; /*float:left; remove this*/ margin:15px; /*add this*/ display:inline-block; position:relative; }

Align text to center in string C++
I'm going to assume you already know how to pass a string from Lua to C++ and return the result from C++ to Lua, so the only part we need to deal with is producing the centered string. That, however, is pretty easy: std::string center(std::string input, int width = 113) { return std::string((width - input.length()) / 2, ' ') + input; }

vertical-align: middle does not apply to div elements (will not have the affect you are looking for) See http://www.vanseodesign.com/css/vertical-centering/ for possible solutions, there are a few ways you can go about doing what you want to accomplish. -- Taken from that page here is the css as simple solution: .popuphdr { display: table; /* Your other CSS HERE as well, minus vertial-align */ } .popuphdr div { display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; } And here is an expanded jsfiddle with your js and adding text-align center as well: http://jsfiddle.net/BqgVM/1/

TA_CENTER not working for center align a StringGrid
Since you're using Lazarus, I wouldn't rely on a platform specific Windows API function, but instead use the built-in canvas TextRect method. In (untested) code it might be: procedure TForm1.StringGrid1DrawCell(Sender: TObject; aCol, aRow: Integer; aRect: TRect; aState: TGridDrawState); var CellText: string; TextStyle: TTextStyle; begin CellText := StringGrid1.Cells[ACol, ARow]; StringGrid1.Canvas.FillRect(ARect); TextStyle := StringGrid1.Canvas.TextStyle; TextStyle.Alignment := taCenter; StringGrid1.Canvas.TextRect(ARect, 0, 0, CellText, TextStyle); ... end; Anyway, you have used a TA_CENTER constant which is used by a different Windows API function, by the SetTextAlign function. You should have used the DT_ ones used by the DrawText function.

center a with text-align: left in a fixed-width div
You do not need to text-align left the a, unless you set them to display block, in which case there is no sense to make li align center, and a align left! Maybe you mean center the whole nav, but have the links be align left? In that case this is how you do it: Demo http://jsbin.com/ezuloz/1/edit

In VB.Net, when using a CheckBox with a Button appearance, how can you truly center-align the text?
Here is an idea: Make them actual buttons and toggle the text from "Show XYZ" to "Hide XYZ" when the user clicks the button, that way you will actually have proper buttons that will center correctly for you. Alternatively, consider making a ToolStripButton hosted inside of a ToolStipContainer to create a toggle button effect, which could nicely be displayed above the results of the Load button. Read the answers for ToggleButton in C# WinForms.

Align TextView to vertical center of ImageView despite the text size?
Instead of an ImageView and a TextView, you can use a compound drawable, which is basically a View that will mix both. In this View, you can specify the gravity and where the image will be located : <TextView android:id="@+id/your_id" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:drawableLeft="@drawable/your_image" android:gravity="center" android:text="@string/text" />

wrap text and center align in javascript function by appending & prepending spaces
Aligning text by inserting space characters works ONLY in a very restricted environment: fixed-width horizontal space using a monospace font of a specific, known size. Change any of those parameters (width, font, font-size) and your alignment will be off. Alignment should be accomplished with CSS.

android:gravity="top" doesn't align child view to top, but "center" aligns to center?
gravity attribute applies to widgets within the LinearLayout, while layout_gravity tells the parent of LinearLayout where to place the child (LinearLayout). Also, in a vertical LinearLayout the gravity="top" attribute won't work. In the layout you have now, both text views will be stacked one on top of the other, wrapped with a linear layout with no space in-between - so the "top" or "center" values won't do anything because there is no extra space to move the text views up or down. If you want to understand this better, try giving your linear layout and both text views backgrounds of different colors, like this: android:background="@color/mycolor" Then you will see the bounds of each widget.

is this bad?
You could have a class of center in your CSS which works for most block elements. For the CSS code: .center {margin:0 auto;} In your HTML: <div class="center">Content Here</div> If you wanted the text to be aligned center aswell as the div then you would just update the above CSS to be: .center {margin:0 auto; text-align:center;}

How To Center Align Menu Through CSS?
I'm not sure the HTML you provided matches up with the CSS (missing pieces?) but typically the best way to center stuff horizontally is to remove the floats and make each item display:inline-block. Then make the wrapper text-align: center. For instance: <div id="wrapper"> <div class="logo"></div> <div class="search"></div> <div class="cart"></div> </div> #wrapper { text-align: center; } .logo, .search, .cart { display: inline-block; } Hope this helps, if not please provide a pastebin or more code - thanks!

As I said in the comment Replace: border: 1px solid #000; With: outline: 1px solid #000; This because, outlines do not take up space. So it should work for everybrowser. You may need to add 1px or 2px to the rest of your divs because the border is gone.

How do I center align a div that contains floated elements?
As you can see here the "div that contains floated elements" is actually in the center (red). I am assuming you want to center the floating elements themselves, not their parent. I'm afraid you can't do that (as far as I know). But in case you are not depending on your elements actually floating, you propably just want to display your .colum as inline-block with an text-align:center set to the parent. Changes to your CSS: .parent_container { text-align:center; // added } .column { display: inline-block; // added margin: 0 25px; // added float: left; // removed margin-right: 50px; // removed } Result as Fiddle

Navbar Title Align Center
Working with custom fonts on iOS is fraught with peril when it comes to vertical orientation of the text. Your best bet here is to embed the title in a UILabel, then place that UILabel in a UIView, positioned appropriately. Something like this: UILabel *titleLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init]; titleLabel.text = @"Test"; UIView *container = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 320.0f, 44.0f)]; titleLabel.frame = …; // Compute the frame you need based on the chosen font, set // appropriately. [container addSubview:titleLabel]; self.navigationItem.titleView = container;

Trying to horizontally align and center an image next to a div
It's always the same trick for vertically centering elements in other elements. take a look here. You need to create an empty span before the element you want to center. this empty span will be called the Centerer. give the Centerer display:inline-block; height:100%; vertical-align:middle; and for the element you want to center, give display:inline-block; vertical-align:middle; It's as simple as that. Edit: This method don't make you specify any static width (px, or even %). so your layout stays very flexible. now that you can verticaly align anything within everything.. you can create a simple layout that will achive your header problem. Edit 2 I've created your layout for you. as you can see.. its a very simple one (I'm using the vertical alignment trick). http://jsfiddle.net/avrah
