Using a physical network adapter on VMWARE
There are multiple ways to achieve it. First is to use physical interface state replication, which you can enable in Network adapter entry in Hardware tab of your VM. With that it will treat hardware interfaces just as if you've plugged them directly into the VM. Other way to go about it, and one that doesn't require hardware network adapters, is to utilize quite robust Virtual network editor (Edit->Virtual Network Editor) which should allow you to replicate most networking conditions you will need.

How to open port 9091 on a linux running under vmware?
Your router may be configured to route packets from the public network to the local machine in the private network. It needs 9091 port to be opened and routed to the private IP. Moreover, you need to ensure that your router can ping your centos guest before. If it can't ping, take care of the network settings of VmWare host, AKA (bridge|nat|private|...) network mode.

How to connect redis-cli on Windows to redis on Linux (on VMware)
Sounds like a networking/firewall issue. You should connect to the redis server through redis-cli the same way no matter what operating system the server and client are on. This should always be redis-cli -h [ipAddress].

QT UTC linux Clock skew detected. Your build may be incomplete
I think this error happens when your file times are newer than your system clock. make warns you that it may not be building everything correctly because of this. touching all your files should sort out the problem. One of the causes is an SCM system that preserves file times and is ahead of your system clock.

Installation of ubuntu 12.04: win7 not detected, partitions not detected
You need to run the Ubuntu GRUB bootloader, follow the instructions on the Ubuntu website https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#Reinstalling_GRUB_2 When I installed ubuntu, I lost my partitions on the drive, in the end I reverted to having two drives one with Windows 7 and the other with Ubuntu, I had to recover the drive with partition recovery software (TestDisk). Skipping the quick scan saves time as you will probably want to do a full scan. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step

linux: what is the difference between these two symbolic link commands
A symbolic link is implemented as a file containing the name of the target. There is a minor difference, as you've seen: one of the symlinks has a trailing /, and the other doesn't. You can see the difference in the output of ls -l; on a lower level, this shows up as a difference in the path returned by the readlink() system call. But there should be no functional difference between them -- as long as the target is a directory. Either can be used to access the linked directory. For a target that's not a directory, this: ln -s /etc/motd good_link ln -s /etc/motd/ bad_link will result in good_link being a valid way to access /etc/motd, and bad_link resulting in a not a directory error.

Why are the Ember Data REST Adapter and LS Adapter structured differently? One returns, one doesn't
Rest Adapter didn't have that change too, until this PR. I think that LS Adapter doesn't return the promisse because it outdated, at the moment the last update in this file was 7 months ago. I recommend you to return the promisse to have the advanage of use. App.User.find().then( ... )

Since you're in 64-bit mode, you won't be able to use BIOS functions (i.e. the int 10h instruction). Even if you could, BIOS uses a different addressing mechanism, so attempting to use the address of Message wouldn't work anyway. Also, wouldn't the first 3 lines of the DispStr function zero out ax? (since you're multiplying by dh, which was just set to zero)

Can i format the disk via vmware?
If you just evaluating MapR or using it for Development purposes, it's much easier to use flat files instead of formatting disks. Setup new flat file with 20GB Storage use following command: $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/root/storagefile bs=1G count=20 Then you can use /root/storagefile as your disk: $ echo "/root/storagefile" > /tmp/disks.txt $ /opt/mapr/server/disksetup -F /tmp/disks.txt More Information: http://www.mapr.com/doc/display/MapR2/Setting+Up+Disks+for+MapR

automatic VMware snaphots creation
You could use any scripting API: vSphere SDK for Python, vSphere SDK for Perl, PowerShell interface for managing vSphere, vmrun command-line utility. Or VMware vSphere Web Services SDK using SOAP. All of them support operations with snapshots. For example, the following script uses the vmrun utility to create a snapshot and rollback to it: vmrun -T vc -h 10.1.1.44 -u root -p vmware snapshot "[datacenter-2/datastore1] CENTER/CENTER.vmx" CleanSnapshot vmrun -T vc -h 10.1.1.44 -u root -p vmware -gu Administrator -gp P@ssword runScriptInGuest "[datacenter-2/datastore1] CENTER/CENTER.vmx" "" "echo Test > c: est.txt" vmrun -T vc -h 10.1.1.44 -u root -p vmware revertToSnapshot "[datacenter-2/datastore1] CENTER/CENTER.vmx" CleanSnapshot

If you are using PropertyCollector's RetrieveProperties, CheckForUupdates etc then in PropertyFilterSpec set PropertySpec.all=True. This will fetch all properties of the MOR. But this will be a huge performance hit. Instead I would suggest list out the properties you need in the PropertySpec.pathSet.

VMware private internal network
VMWare already does all this for you. It creates: Two internal subnets a virtual IP address in the first subnet that is bridged to a real NIC of the host. an IP address for each VM in the second subnet. routing between the two subnets. There is a program called 'Manage virtual networks' that does what it says.

VMware PowerCLI Variables in ScriptText
Your haven't correctly scoped your variable. Here's a simple experiment you can try in your console: PS C:> $test = "Resolve!" PS C:> $test Resolve! # This scriptblock will not resolve the variable. PS C:> {$test} $test # This scriptblock will resolve the variable. PS C:> [scriptblock]::Create($test) Resolve! Invoke-VMScript's documentation suggests you should pass -ScriptText as a string instead of a ScriptBlock. So in this case, we can mimic example 2: $string = "(Get-Wmiobject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem).Rename($strName)" Invoke-VMScript -ScriptText $string Variables enclosed by " " will be resolved.

How to make the Ember Local Storage Adapter (LSAdapter) work with the Ember REST Adapter?
After reading Ember data's DS.Store comments, it looks like it might be possible to use 2 adapters at once: You can retrieve models from the store in several ways. To retrieve a record for a specific id, use DS.Model's find() method: var person = App.Person.find(123); If your application has multiple DS.Store instances (an unusual case), you can specify which store should be used: var person = store.find(App.Person, 123); I will update this answer if I try it out and get it working. Update 1: Check out the code in UPDATED for Additional question where both FixtureAdapter and RestAdapter are called.

Can I access an application running on Pow from a VMWare Fusion VM?
I just tried something kind of out there, but it worked instantly! I changed to NAT mode on the Windows VM. I got the IP address of vmnet8 on my Mac. I used that address in the hosts file of the Windows VM and pointed it to myapp.local. I closed IE and reopened it, and it worked!

Windows Phone 8 Emulator in VMWare Fusion on OSX
In the end I found a solution, I managed to launch the original Windows Phone VM image directly from the commandline with this command: "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft XDE8.0XDE.exe" /vhd "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SDKsWindows Phonev8.0EmulationImagesFlash.vhd" /name WP8SDK720P I created a new text file with notepad and put this command in it and saved the file on my desktop as a .bat file. This way i can just double click the shortcut and launch the sim. Hopefully this helps someone else out there. In this way, you don't even need to start visual studio to run the emulator, it makes it much simpler if all you are using the emulator for is testing web-apps. N.B. if you press FN+DOWN-ARROW you can enable the keyboard to work in the sim.

JBoss in Mac OSX won't accept connections from VMware IE10
The parameter to let the jboss listen to an interface is "-b" for bind to. So you should start the Jboss with this parameter to listen to all interfaces: -b 0.0.0.0 And make sure that the firewall has opend the Port 8080, as well ;) If you use the JBoss Tools in Eclipse to manage your Jboss, make right click in the "Servers" view on the Server and select "Open" in the context menü. This should open a launch editor which allowes you to change all the polling, managing and deployment stuff. There is a field "Hostname". Change this to "0.0.0.0" and it will configure the launch config correctly for you. I think in newest version of the tools there is a checkbox "Listen on all interface" or so. When this checkbox is there, enable it and enjoy.

Host-Only Network not working on VMware Workstation
Host-only networking in VMware Workstation creates a network between all virtual machines (whose network type is set to host-only as well) and the host computer computer (in your case, your Windows 8 machine). This link provides more information on the topic of host-only networking. If you're looking to provide internet connectivity, you can use either NAT Networking, or Bridged Networking. NAT Networking will provide your GOS (Guest Operating System) with an IP that is NAT'ed from your Host. Bridged networking will allow your GOS to obtain an IP from your physical network (provided there's a DHCP -- usually your wired (or wireless) router serves as the DHCP server in most home networks). Hope that helps!

VMware vCenter Web Client UI and data service tweaking
Having had a look at the Customizing the vSphere Client guide, I think what you intend to do could be possible by editing the Web UI plugin internals, and that is modifying its source code. You should check the Orchestrator documentation to see if what you intend to do can be done without modifying the source code. For example, I read in this guide you can customize what the user can do by customizing the URL you use for accessing the Web Client.

The UI in Android is efficient and will only update when it NEEDS to. In the case of your list the UI only updates when you scroll it because it needs to fetch more items for the list. To force an update you need to call invalidate() on your ListView.

Linux users', specifically Apache, permissions settings, [Linux noob :]
usually any daemon will need to access a number of ressources. it is therefore good practice to run each daemon under a special user:group, rather than nobody:nogroup. traditionally (e.g. on Debian systems) apache runs as www-data:www-data. finally, user permissions take precedence over group permissions (which in turn take precedence over other permissions). this means that a directory where the user does not have write perms but the user's group can write is effectively r/o for that user (but not for other members of the group)

Exec(Linux). How it functions internally? Linux executable attributes(rlimit)
The RLIMIT_CORE is used to place a limit on the amount of info that coredump is allowed to produce, before it is aborted. Once this limit is hit, no more info is logged and the message Aborting Core is logged to the console. From the man page of core : A process can set its soft RLIMIT_CORE resource limit to place an upper limit on the size of the core dump file that will be produced if it receives a "core dump" signal. Use setrlimit() to configure RLIMIT_CORE to a larger value to obtain complete coredumps. The most common format of executables/shared-objects is ELF. On Linux, the dynamic loading and linking of these shared-objects is performed by ld.so ld.so is loaded in the address space of a newly created process (by exec in this case) and executed first. Write C++ on Windows but use Linux System calls through a Linux emulator
You've already tagged your question with Cygwin. That seems like the best solution for what you want. Cygwin is basically a collection of programs which emulate a GNU/LInux environment through the use of a DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API layer providing substantial Linux API functionality. Here's the link to the documentation for its API Edit: Most of the Cygwin source code that I've looked at is written in C++ and makes system calls using MS Windows API to do provide the *nix emulation. The source is well written and very readable (even to to a non-C++ programmer such as myself). I think using Cygwin would be a good transition from programming on Windows to a GNU/Linux environment.
