SQL Server Express 2012 Installation fails with Could not find the Database Engine startup handle in SQL Server Express 2012
I have found the solution. It was, in fact, a r/w rights error. I have added following users to my profile folder: IUSR Local Service Network IIS_IUSRS Service I know I went overkill here but I wanted to be sure without giving everyone access rights. I will disable them one by one and find the right one(s) needed to properly run SQL Server Express 2012.

Create a Installation setup for a windows form application in VS2010 using InstallShield limited edition
FWIW, some people think that it's InstallShield (or similar tools) job to autodetect your dependencies and author them for you. In fact, InstallShield does have some functionality to achieve this. But IMO it's a hopeless attempt. For any programming endeavor step 1 is to determine the requirements and step 2 is to implement them. Many will argue that the point of spending $ on InstallShield is to automate this. I couldn't disagree more. Automation is nice but at the end of the day it's my job to understand my deployment requirements and validate that they are implemented correctly. You need to profile your application to understand what file is missing, add it to your installer and rinse and repeat. This could simply mean looking at the code, or using ILDASM or .NET Reflector or eve

Can I use SQL Server-2012 Express edition over a network when the FIREWALL is on
You still need to make sure you're connecting through a known port, and open that port on your firewall. In the configuration manager, open the TCP/IP settings. Under IPAll, ensure Dynamic Ports is blank and TCP Port is 1433. Then, make sure 1433 is allowed inbound on your firewall. If you have a network level firewall, check with it's administrators to make sure that port is open. Yes, network sharing will work with the professional edition with a firewall - just need to make sure the correct ports are open.

Libcurl error in a Windows Forms Application in Visual C++ 2010 express edition
Since you're compiling managed C++, your native curl calls need to be marshaled through p/Invoke. It might be easiest to wrap these in flat "C" calls to make the marshaling simpler. In any case, I'd use the P/Invoke Interop Assistant tool (http://clrinterop.codeplex.com/releases/view/14120) to generate the necessary signatures.

Access DB PDO not working in Windows Server x64 edition
I experienced the same problems. I was able to read and display records but INSERT had no effect, no error was thrown either. The thing is, I kept trying to execute an SQL statement with the values already filled out. Once I tried the prepare and execute statements with actual parameters it did work. I have no idea why it behaves this way but it seems like you can't directly execute INSERT statements? Btw I previously tried 'prepare - execute' with no arguments as well ( as the data was filled out in the query already ). Glad it only took me 3 hours of trial and error! :(

Cannot run SQL script on Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
Ok, so I figured it out by myself. So I'm answering my question so that it may help anyone else who have had this weird problem. When you open the database home page on any browser other than IE, this problem occurs, and you won't be able to do a single thing with your script. So always open your database home page on IE if you have to upload some data. For all other tasks, any other browser is fine. Cheers.

Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress on Windows Server 2008 R2
I had an issue like this on a windows install and it was down to this. If you don't have the extension_dir uncommented on you php.ini, it wont default to the 'ext' directory (which is where all extension dlls are on windows). Therefore, even uncommented extensions are ignored (and you wont see them on your phpinfo()) http://php.net/manual/en/install.windows.extensions.php

How to get an Express static file server to handle Windows backslashes correctly?
@verybadalloc and @user2524973 found a bug in the express directory.js middleware that caused this problem. In the comments to the original question they also provided a fix. Find the lines that says return '<li><a href="' + join(dir, file) + '" class="' + classes.join(' ') + '"' + ' title="' + file + '">' It should be around line number 176. Change it to: return '<li><a href="' + join(dir, file).replace(/\/g, '/') + '" class="' + classes.join(' ') + '"' + ' title="' + file + '">' ... and it should work better on Windows. It seems like this fix was added to the main repository, but later removed, so this fix might have some unforeseen consequence? Works for me anyway, I'm just using it to list my music folder. I posted this answer since I almost missed th

Mongoose connect method fails on simple Node Server. Express, Mongoose, Path
You need to actually successfully get mongod running and listening for connections. Just type mongod with no options, hit ENTER, and let it run. Then in a separate terminal start your express app. Note that mongod is the mongodb server daemon whereas mongo is the command line client where you can run an interactive REPL and issue database commands.

Make a windows forms application that updates data in a SQL Server Express db table work on client machiens
Need to install the same version of SQL Express(Example: 2012) you used for development in client machines. By default sql express will be installed as named instance with name ".sqlexpress" so your connection string need to point to the server as ".sqlexpress" or "(local)sqlexpress". You can change the named instance during installation if needed. Also users can add themself as SQL admin to sql express during installation so if they do that then your application should work fine. This link shows step by step installation of sql express 2012

CreateObject("...") in VBScript fails to create a VB.Net class library com object (Windows Server 2000)
Go through the following check-list: 1) Make sure you compile your assembly as 32-bit (in the VB.NET project settings) 2) Give your assembly a strong name (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xc31ft41.aspx). You can probably configure this in your VB.NET project settings as well. 3) Use RegAsm for .NET 2.0 (C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727RegAsm.exe) 4) Call RegAsm with "/codebase" switch 5) Before testing with ASP, try running your test script from command line with WScript.exe.

How Can I Tell Which Edition Of SQL Server Is On Disk?
There are no different installations for different editions. It's based on the product key you enter during installation. If you are unsure of your product key what version is, you can run the installation up to the point where you enter key, see Licence Terms for specific edition in the next step, and just Cancel from there.

SQL Server Compact Edition Set Up
SQL Server Compact Edition is a file-based solution (using .sdf files), not a server-based solution like SQL Server Express. Therefore SQL Server CE cannot (really) be managed/handled by SQL Server Management Studio. (I do know - some people claim you can - but I personally have never been able to open any .sdf file in any version of SQL Server Management Server). You'll need something like the SQL Server CE Toolbox to look at those .sdf files and their contents

How to migrate from Enterprice edition to community edition?
I did this from Professional edition to community and there is no way to really migrate. You basically have to export all of your products, import. Install a new copy of the extensions (very often there is a enterprise specific extension), reconfig. And then copy over the cms and blocks, categories and attribute sets. Some stuff you can do using tables. But its really best to just manually chunk things in and out.

Does Sql Server Compact Edition 3.5 query timeout?
No they do timeout, you can define the timeout in connection string like this SqlCeConnection conn = new SqlCeConnection(); conn.ConnectionString = "Persist Security Info=False; Data Source = Northwind.sdf;" + "Password = <password>; server=mySQLServer;Connect Timeout=30"; This is whay MSDN has to say. ConnectionTimeout Property is the time (in seconds) to wait for a connection to open. The value is always 0 in SQL Server Compact as it is readonly.

SQL Server 2012 - Developer Edition Questions
The Developer Edition is functionally identical to the Enterprise edition (it just doesn't have a license to use it legally in a production environment). See the SQL Server web site for the Enterprise edition for the full feature list. So yes, most definitely, it has SSIS and everything in the box. And I believe it should be available for purchase at large online software vendors, too - depends on your location, I guess. E.g. at Amazon, if you're in the US.

How to install windows service using visual studio 2012 and instalshields limited edition
For better or for worse, InstallShield LE was designed to have the same features as Visual Studio Deployment Projects. This means using InstallUtil custom actions to reinvent the wheel as MSI's ServiceInstall and ServiceControl are not exposed. Options are either to a) upgrade to InstallShield Professional, b) switch to Windows Installer XML or c) blend WiX Merge Modules with InstallShield LE. The concept is to create a merge module project that encapsulates your service EXE and the consume that in InstallShield LE. Auditing sp_configure SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition
I think the approach is a little off. I am guessing you want to find out who changed what. There's a good chance this person can seriously screw things up, so I would not give them permissions to do that. You can create a procedure that is a proxy for sp_configure. This procedure will do your logging and maintain a whitelist of things your user can do. If you don't want to go through all that trouble, and you still want to allow this user to mess things up, here's a post with what you want: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic780731-146-1.aspx

SQL Server Compact Edition 4 vs the competition (ease of deployment)?
For the sake of simplicity, I would go for SQLite, deployment can be as simple as a single .DLL together with the .EXE, plus the database file itself, for a grand total of 3 files (again, in the most simplistic form). For small programs that must run independently of everything, I think it's a good choice. It has a native C API, callable among many languages, plus with the help of additional libraries it can be further used easily in even more. The downsides would be the lack of integration with VS and the need for an external program to view and manage database files outside your app (SSMS does a great job here for SQL Server).
