Sending SMTP Emails block HTTP request
Almost certainly you're using a standard file-based session. While your mail sending script is running, it keeps the session file locked, meaning that any other parallel requests to any other session-enabled scripts using that particular session ID will be locked out. You need release the session lock by adding in a session_write_close() call in the appropriate places (e.g. before any long-running code sections/scripts). That'll release the lock and allow other parallel requests to proceed.

Hotmail SSL3 version number error using smtp
I can duplicate your problem with Debian Wheezy with Python 2.7.3 which uses the exact same OpenSSL version you report. I captured packets with Wireshark and there is a successful TLS handshake and some data is exchanged. Shortly after that however, the client end gets unhappy with something the server sends and closes the connection. I was able to work around the issue by using SSL3 instead of TLS. I couldn't figure out how to patch a library method in Python so that other libraries that used it would behave differently, so I just made my own local copy of smtplib. I copied the 2.7 version of smtplib (click on the raw link to download) and changed one line: self.sock = ssl.wrap_socket(self.sock, keyfile, certfile) to self.sock = ssl.wrap_socket(self.sock, keyfile,

For anyone still interest the answer: Google have to allow your app to use your own account, to allow this google provided an easy way, just go to https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha, then click continue, then with 10 min, use your application to try to send email again, and google will remember the application/service and allow your application to access your account as long as you don't change your password. cheers

My applications need to send emails, where and how should I store the SMTP password?
It would be good if you would have provided more details on the operating system and the programming language... However here are some general advices: The most important thing you have to know is: If your application is able to decrypt it without user interaction (e.g. a password by the user or a hardware token) any attacker will be able to do it. All measures you implement will just increase the complexity of gaining this password. Of course you should raise the bar as high as possible. For Windows, the DPAPI will be your friend. You can find some Information on how to use it for example here: http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/mosessaur/dpapiprotecteddataclass01052006142332PM/dpapiprotecteddataclass.aspx with C# (I don't know which environment you use). You can also implement

I believe the error is due to Gmail requiring authentication before it can allow you to send email through its' SMTP server. You can try to add the below code to get rid of this issue. SmtpServer.EnableSsl = true; SmtpServer.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Network; SmtpServer.UseDefaultCredentials = false; SmtpServer.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("emailaddress","password");

Ruby on Rails ActionMailer SMTP Settings
The answer is the "relay access denied" message. Your smtp server needs to be configured to relay emails for this to work. I suspect that your smtp server is configured to accept connections for delivery TO your domain, not to relay emails elsewhere. The same error message will probably be found in the smtp server's log files. Try sending an email to yourself (which would just be an accept, rather than a relay, for your smtp server). If emails to yourself are delivered, but emails to other domains are not, you will have confirmation that that is the problem. Your ISP probably has an smtp server you can use for outgoing emails. If you want to use your own email server, it will need to be configured to relay emails.

How come my Meteor app with accounts package is not sending a verification email?
See here: http://docs.meteor.com/#email If MAIL_URL is not set (eg, when running your application locally), Email.send outputs the message to standard output instead Web servers such as Meteor cannot send emails by themselves, they need a SMTP server to do that. You need to set up one and set it with MAIL_URL variable.

SMTP Error on sending mail
Your mail server requires authentication (username + password) before it will accept email from you. It is suggesting you either provide it via your SMTP connection (using SMTP AUTH, hopefully with TLS), or that you do a technique called POP before SMTP where you first login and 'check' your mail which will cause a temporary whitelisting of your host so it can send mail for a brief while afterward.

Email sending using SMTP not working with asp.net
Putting this in an answer so it's easier to read. In answer to your comments, here is the mail message i would send through a server with no credentials. You can send emails from any address to anyone. But, remember that the emails getting to where it's going is not guaranteed. mail filters will often reject emails that come from an smtp server that has not been added to the SPF record for that domain. MailMessage m = new MailMessage(); m.From = new MailAddress("Smith@MyDomain.com"); m.To.Add(new MailAddress("someone@TheirCompany.com)); m.Subject = "Message from Smith"; m.Body = "Hello, Test Message"; SendEmail(m); var smtp = new SmtpClient { Host = "localhost", Port = 25, UseDefaultCredentials = false, }; smtp.Send(m); This is for sending through the local mac

Sending emails using PHP
Your php.ini wont work on webserver. On webserver most time, the emails are handled by their smtp relays. So do not worry about emails in webserver. For testing you just upload your email script on webserver at any address, and test it it works. Here I am providing you code which should work on your webserver. $To = "email address of person whom you want to send email"; $From = "your email address"; $Subject = "subject of email"; $Email = "your message"; $Headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0" . " "; $Headers .= "Content-type:text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" . " "; $Headers .= "From: " . $From . " "; $mail = mail($To, $Subject, $Email, $Headers); if ($mail) { echo "email sent"; } else { echo "email failed"; }

What is the best way to store e-mail accounts data used for sending mailing to customers in PHP?
ECB mode is insecure and the IV is ignored with this mode. You should really use CBC (MCRYPT_MODE_CBC) instead. When using CBC an IV is required for encryption and the same IV is required for decryption, so you need to hang on to this value (but don't use the same IV for all encryption/decryption, generating a random one as in your code example is correct). The IV does not need to be stored securely (any more securely than the encrypted data), and it's standard proceedure to prepend the IV to the encrypted data. bin2hex($iv . mcrypt_encrypt(MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256, $key, $text, MCRYPT_MODE_CBC, $iv)); When decrypting you strip off the IV and pass it in to mcrypt_decrypt. $cipherTextDecoded = hex2bin($encr); $iv = substr($cipherTextDecoded, 0, $iv_size); $cipherText = substr($cipherTextDec

Sending email from Django via hosted SMTP

The as @abarnert suggested , tried telnet company.server.name which failed with the error telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out Thus basically the code not being able to connect to the smtp server was causing the issue.

Sending Emails with attachment of less than 10 MB from AWS SES
There is also overall message size limit, which is also 10M. As per http://aws.amazon.com/ses/faqs/: Amazon SES will accept email messages up to 10 MB in size. This includes any attachments that are part of the message. So you have to ensure your request fits in these limits. (I personally think its a bug that Amazon API throws "XmlException: Root element is missing." in case when the message size considerably exceeded the limit. It's totally misleading.)

Sending email through SMTP fails : MailBox name not allowed
The error's a direct response from the SMTP server that your code is attempting to connect to. Your client machine does not have a valid reverse DNS mapping (e.g. 127.0.0.1 -> localhost), so the SMTP server is rejecting the connection. It could be something as simple as your client identifying itself as example.com, but when the SMTP server does a reverse lookup, the server's IP comes back as system-1-2-3.4.hostingprovider.com or similar.

Issue sending SMTP mail from VMWorkstation using Powershell
If you're using PowerShell v2 or higher (and you should be), use Send-MailMessage instead. Send-MailMessage -from $from -to $to -subject $subject -body $html -BodyAsHTML -smtphost $server -credential $(Get-Credential) You'll be prompted to enter credentials for your SMTP server. If it's something you'll need repeatedly, you can prompt the user at the beginning of the script and store it: $cred = Get-Credential Then use -credential $cred in place of -credential $(Get-Credential). If the system you're running on is joined to your domain and you're logged in with a domain account, you should be able to skip the -credential parameter as it will default to the current user (you).

PHP - Not Sending Emails with Header Information
I use these headers in my php mailing function and it works well. Note: I also use a third party mail-routing service to avoid having my mails marked as coming from a spammy IP. You might want to look into that also. $headers = 'From: '.$from.'@foo.net' . " " . 'Reply-To: '.$from.'@foo.net' . " " . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion() . " " . 'MIME-Version: 1.0' . " " . 'Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' . " "; I also use the optional fifth parameter to mail() to set the envelope address, e.g.: $parameters = '-f '.$from.'@foo.net'; so the final call is: mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers, $parameters);
