How to avoid marked as spam by Gmail on sending mass email?
Yes, don't send mass email :-) If you really want to avoid being considered a spammer, send out emails with less recipients, and don't swamp the mail server with them. Let's say, for example, you have thirty recipients for a given update. You can send out emails with one recipient every minute for a half hour. Now the numbers may be different (and will of course depend on the success of your site) but the basic theory will stand up for quite a while. As to how to get yourself whitelisted in GMail, that's really up to the recipient. They can usually do it by simply adding your email address to their contact list. Keep in mind whitelisting there refers to individual GMail accounts, GMail itself does not whitelist IP addresses. It does blacklist them if you misbehave but that generally me

Postfix sending mail from nonexistent email addresses
The reject_unlisted_sender restriction listed in smtpd_sender_restrictions is listed after permit_mynetworks and permit_sasl_authenticated. Postfix traverses the restriction list in order and terminates when it hits the first permit/reject and hence never reaches reject_unlisted_sender. Since your message wasn't rejected by reject_unauth_destination it must've been accepted because of permit_mynetworks or permit_sasl_authenticated. Additionally, unless the sender address you used had a domain part that was actually "owned" by Postfix (i.e. listed in mydestination, virtual_mailbox_domains, virtual_alias_domains, or relay_domains), it can't be validated and reject_unlisted_sender won't work. See details in the postconf(5) man page. Other observations: The warn_if_reject restriction is pl

Outgoing Listing-Mail stucks in Spam-Filter since I moved to a new Server
First, check that your outgoing mail server is identifying itself correctly in the HELO command (or EHLO command) when it connects to a receiving mail server. There should also be an A record for this name that should point to the IP address of the mail server. Also, this IP address should reverse to some name (possibly, but not necessarily, the same name as above), and this name should point to the mail server's IP. If any of this is not right, then most spam filters will not consider your server to be a 'real' mail server, and will most likely flag any message sent from your server as spam. This is how many spam filters block spam that originates from computers that have been taken over as 'zombies'. Another thing to do is to check that you mail server IP is not on any blacklists. Yo

Outgoing mails to spam directory
I don't know much about the setup side, but several other factors could cause it to hit spam folders. Try removing one possible cause at a time until the email works. replace all the content with pure text (no $, !'s or large numbers) send from a different email address send to a different email address on a different domain If any of those fix your problem, you should have it narrowed down to the cause, which will help the rest of us to give more targeted answers. If those things don't make a difference, then it is most likely in your setup.

Why are my automated confirmation / subscription emails getting flagged as spam in gmail?
I have had problems with this in the past, and found solutions to be largely hit and miss. If the server which is sending your mail happens to be on a black list because of previous spammers linked to your server/IP address, you are probably out of luck. Otherwise, I have had limited success by playing with different header variables; also plain text emails tend to have higher delivery success rates than HTML - in my experience (although, I realise you are already doing this). Also try rephrasing your subject line or body text, you may just be getting caught by a spam rule looking out for a pattern you have accidently stumbled upon.

postfix trying to send yahoo addresses to gmail
I believe this was happening because my from address was a non-existant address on my domain, which happened to be hosted by google apps. Since my MTA was setup as a null-client, it wanted to forward the bounce message to the from address. Yahoo was rejecting my email because my SPF record had too many DNS entries in it, which caused the (attempted) bounce message. Strangely, even in debug mode, postfix didn't log anything more than the above line.

PHP + PostFix + Amazon SES + Multiple Domains (transports)
After nearly 24 hours of trying to solve this, I finally figured it out. I hope this helps whomever is looking to use this same method and doesn't have to go through the pain I just went through! So in my example above, domain x + y relayed through virtual aliases. For z we must use a transport, in this case it was a "sender_dependent_relayhost_maps" transport, so I can grab the sender and relay them through amazon SES. In main.cf, regardless of "smtp/unix-socket", we straight up use SES standards: smtp_sasl_auth_enable=yes smtp_sasl_security_options=noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps=hash:/etc/postfix/sas smtp_use_tls=yes smtp_tls_security_level=encrypt smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer=yes smtp_tls_CAfile=/etc/ssl/certs/ca-bundle.crt In sender_dependent_relayhost_maps we use: @domainz.c

SMTP Error on sending mail
Your mail server requires authentication (username + password) before it will accept email from you. It is suggesting you either provide it via your SMTP connection (using SMTP AUTH, hopefully with TLS), or that you do a technique called POP before SMTP where you first login and 'check' your mail which will cause a temporary whitelisting of your host so it can send mail for a brief while afterward.

Error While sending a mail from Email subscription in SSRS
As per the exception, the issue is coming from the SMTP server: Status: Failure sending mail: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender Because you have SMTPAuthenticate set to 2 in the config, the SSRS service user will try and authenticate to the SMTP server. See Configure a Report Server for E-Mail Delivery for more details. You need to resolve this issue - since SSRS is running under NT ServiceReportServer and trying to send the mail as <From>myid@domain.com</From> the SMTP server will not allow this, and hence the error. As a test you can change the SSRS service user to myid@domain.com as a check to confirm this is the issue. If so, you should investigate getting a domain user set up with a mailbo

Also, if you're sending e-mails in the US, be sure to follow the guidelines of the CAN-SPAM Act.

Umbraco add CC while sending mails
Umbraco's SendMail() helper method is (purposefully) very basic. It is actually only a few lines that creates a MailMessage instance with the from and to values and sends it via the SmtpClient.Send() method. The ToMail parameter can actually accept multiple email addresses, presumably comma or semi-colon delimited. But these would not be CC recipients. You would actually be be better off just creating your own method.
