Find('first'), Find('count'), or Field('id')...Which is faster?
Assuming your table is indexed correctly you will likely not see a difference. Per @mark's comment, use whichever one suites your needs. The logic of which one to use should be your main concern. If you're only trying to see IF there is one, then using field makes the most sense, since it's limit 1 and only returns a single field. If you want to know how many there are, then you'll need count. And if you want to know IF there is one, and retrieve it's data, then first or exists is the way to go.

Faster way to find out if a number starts with 2?

Which is faster way to find a child element in jQuery?
If you comparing between find and children,Then fastest would be par.children("child1").doSomething(); Because children only looks for immediate children node of the element whereas find looks for entire DOM elements.

Which is faster and better to use - query db or iterate over array to find sum of elements
Do the second method. Database aggregate queries execute much faster than PHP code for the same purpose. You have to think of the following heads I am assuming you only need the sum, and not the rest of the rows Execution Time Your database software is better at aggregate queries than PHP. PHP will have to iterate over each instance once it has received the data to calculate the sum. Its better to do this in the database, if possible, since it is dealing with the data anyways and has optimized functions to do this sort of thing. Data Transfer If all you need is the sum, you are sending a number of rows, their column values that you don't really need. For the sum, you transferring just a single number. If the rowset is large, there will be significant overhead in transferring and might

MySQL: Shouldnt using a routine to find a match be much faster in this example?
When you run a query, SELECT happens first, and then WHERE comes in after and starts to filter the SELECT. Because of this, in your query, every single SELECT row runs your IPTOLOCID function, and then outputs your data.

Which fibonacci function will evaluate faster?
This is a very naive way to do this calculation. try to do something like: long[] a = new long[100]; a[0] = 1; a[1] = 1; for (int i = 2; i < 100; ++i) { a[i] = a[i - 2] + a[i - 1]; } for (int i = 0; i < 100; ++i) Console.WriteLine(a[i]); This way you are getting a linear time O(n)

Uppercase function names are faster than lowercase in Oracle?
The only reason for you to use only uppercase entity names (not longer, then 30 characters, by the way) is to avoid using quotes, when accessing them. I haven't ever heard of any performance impact though. If you name something FUNC, you will be able to call it fUnC or Func (without quotes!) later. But if you call it func with quotes, that will be the only name you may use.

It should be faster, cProfile says it's faster, but the program actually runs slower
In your new implementation, you create 5 numpy arrays with each Brain object: self.h_activation = zeros((self.hidden_num, 1), dtype=float) self.o_activation = zeros((self.output_num, 1), dtype=float) self.i_output = zeros((self.input_num, 1), dtype=float) self.h_output = zeros((self.hidden_num, 1), dtype=float) self.o_output = zeros((self.output_num, 1), dtype=float) These attributes are not referenced in other parts of the code. Creating them is a potentially costly operation, which doesn't seem have a direct counterpart in the original implementation. I'm not sure that it would outweigh the speed advantage of faster numpy computations, but if you are creating a lot of Brain objects, it's something worth looking at.

Why when running MergeSort then QuickSort will the Second function run faster? Especially for large values of n
Another alternative is that you are using the output of one as the input of the next. QuickSort is more sensitive to input "sortedness" (in a positive way) than MergeSort.

Timer Gets Faster and Faster
Well, from what I understand, I dont see any line of code to stop previous timers that were setup by previously applied plugins, so I believe that they all stack up and the more you have at different intervals, the faster they get. Now, what you should be doing is detect if the plugin was previously applied on that element and if so, clear previously set timeouts. However, the way you designed your plugin, the options and other variables are shared, so they will be replaced everytime you apply the plugin on different elements. You will have to change this as well...

Undefined function 'time' for input arguments of type 'double'. How do i find a function that others didn't seem to have defined in their code?
As pm89 already suspected, time in this case is a variable. Type: > help mpretrack in your command window. Amongst other information, it will say: Also, the program looks for the files "fov#times.mat" for the "time" variable and the images files "fov#fov#####.tif" from the basepath. If you don't have the specified .mat file, the variable time is unknown, which causes the error you see.

Find out if an function argument is part of a function call
No, there is no (practical) way to do that. You could, theoretically, add some code in your method that reads the debugging symbols from your binary, inspects the link register, and then uses that information to figure out the call site, loads up the source code from somewhere else, and figures out the mapping, parses the source code and figures out it's being called as you describe.

ID vs Var with find function
$("#inside") is faster than div_obox.find("#inside") and than $('.box > #inside') because jQuery, in the first case, may and do use document.getElementById and all browsers maintain a direct map between the id and the related elements. From the source code : // Shortcuts if ( (match = rquickExpr.exec( selector )) ) { // Speed-up: Sizzle("#ID") if ( (m = match[1]) ) { if ( nodeType === 9 ) { elem = context.getElementById( m ); Never add anything to a '#id' selector if there is no logical reason (i.e. checking the elements exists in a specific part of the DOM).

How do I Find the Function I Need in a DLL?
Most of the time just google what I'm trying to do, eg: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=get+text+from+window+in+c%23 and I read the top 3 answers. I also read a few blogs, read a few books, and if I'm really stuck I'll browse the documentation. Though I've found the MSDN documentation to not be particularly helpful at times, but sometime it can be good. Or I'll pick up the phone and ring some of my fellow nerds. If you're having to reference user32 and a COM DLL, I recommend you check out http://www.pinvoke.net/ but if you're writing VB.NET code and not trying to do anything fancy there's probably a much easier way of doing what you're trying to do.

SDL can't find my main function
SDL #defines main to SDL_main in order to transparently use its own main implementation. Since you haven’t included any SDL headers, you don’t have that macro in scope. It should work to simply rename your main to SDL_main or include an SDL header such as SDL.h.

Using an Or function within Range.Find VBA
The Range.Find method emulates the same window as when you type CTRL+F in Excel. Since you can't search for 2+ values at the same time in that window, I don't believe you can search for 2+ values at the same time through VBA. I think you would have to do the method twice, unfortunately. If I'm wrong, I would love to know how to do this; it would be so useful. So please feel free to prove me wrong :) From my testing, the Range.Find method does not support arrays or a range of more than 1 cell. So those are out. Also, trying to use OR would not work correctly because OR checks for TRUE/FALSE and returns TRUE/FALSE.

Python, can't find function
in your definition of the global variables, you define rooms['first_again'] twice. Each time you assign a value to an element of a dict: rooms['first_again'] = #something you overwrite what was there previously. It's saying KeyError: 'torch' because that object no longer has an element called torch. Try changing it to: rooms['first_again'] = {'torch' : False, 'seen' : False} Or if you need to add values to that element later, you can do: rooms['first_again'] = {'torch' : False} rooms['first_again']['seen'] = False

Why doesn't C++ find template function?
You cannot deduce a template argument from a nested type. Think of, e.g., std::vector<T>::size_type which is always std::size_t: how would the compiler resolve the ambiguity? I realize that's not quite the case in your example but the same principle applies. For example, the iterator type of std::vector<T> can be T* which can also be the iterator type of std::array<T, N>.

How does the linker find the main function?
A very generic overview, the linker assigns the address to the block of code identified by the symbol main. As it does for all the symbols in your object files. Actually, it doesn't assign a real address but assigns an address relative to some base which will get translated to a real address by the loader when the program is executed. The actual entry point is not likely main but some symbol in the crt that calls main. LD by default looks for the symbol start unless you specify something different. The linked code ends up in the .text section of the executable and could look something like this (very simplified): Address | Code 1000 someFunction ... 2000 start 2001 call 3000 ... 3000 main ... When the linker writes the ELF header it would specify the entry point

Each loop to find if function exists?
In this case the only one that should trigger is 'aa' as function 'aa exists. $.each() is iterating members of the Object passed to it. And, currently, the function aa is not a member of the Object a.b. $.isFunction() isn't returning true because every member of a.b has a String value: aa: 'hello', bb: 'you', cc: 'guys' If you want the function as a member of the Object, you'll need to set it as the value of one of its properties: a.b.aa = function () { var dude = 'hi there'; }; This will replace the 'hello' value with a reference to the function. To reuse the property names to lookup globals, you can use them on the global object (window in browsers). var key = 'aa'; var val = window[key]; var b = function () { $.each(a.b, function (key) { if (key in wind

How to modify the existing stl find function in C++?
If you only want to make std::find work for your array of structure, you need to define operator== for struct data: struct data { data(int value=0) : val(value) {} int val; }; bool operator==(const data& l, const data& r) { return l.val == r.val;} auto x = find(A, A+LEN, value); OR auto x = find(A, A+LEN, data(value)); To get index of value in A, use std::distance std::distance(A, x); Note: For more sufficent search with sorted container, use std::lower_bound, std::uppper_bound, std::binary_search instead. auto lower = std::lower_bound(A, A+LEN, data(3)); auto upper = std::upper_bound(A, A+LEN, data(3)); Your operator< function signature better be like: bool operator < (const data &a1, const data &a2) // ^^^^^ ^^^^^

How to find out where a function is called from in JavaScript?
If the function is called from the global scope, arguments.callee.caller.name will be undefined. Otherwise, it will be the name of the caller function (which also represents the scope it was called from). So what you already have should work, except in strict mode, where arguments.callee is not available. Additionaly: the developer tools available from your browser are probably a better way to inspect this kind of thing: just set a breakpoint and look at the stack trace panel. Unless of course your code itself needs to know the calling scope at runtime.

Its not really an autoload issue. You are attempting to call a class on the root namespace. By the looks of it your are in some 'Model' namespace and calling PDO, you must remember that namespaces are relative by default. What you want is to either call the the absolute path: PDO or at the top of your file say you're going to use PDO like this: use PDO;

Function to find a node crashes
At some point you're going to get to a leaf node - when this happens node is going to be NULL and you're going to try to dereference it (which is not good). You should add a check for NULL: template<class T> void Tree<T>::CheckTwoTimes(Node<T> *node, Node<T> *original) { if (node == NULL) return; if (node == original) cout << "This is it" << endl; CheckTwoTimes(node->Left, original); CheckTwoTimes(node->Right, original); } If the nodes in the tree are unique, it might also be a good idea to return a pointer to the node rather than printing something out.

How can I overload find function in Matlab
As Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus noted in the link he gave, there are strict rules of when you can overload functions in matlab. Take the following class: classdef myclass methods function find(self) fprintf('find(myclass) has been called. '); end end end And execute X = [myclass myclass myclass] find(X) This gives the following output: X = 1x3 myclass with no properties. Methods find(myclass) has been called. What you do in your overloaded find function is up to you. Just write a function that prints out the indices of the elements that match what you call "these properties", whatever that is.

C++: How to use new to find store for function return value?
In a "real" program, yes, you would use std::string. It sounds like this example wants you to use a C string instead. So maybe something like this: char * cat(char first[], char second[]) { char *result = new char[strlen(first) + strlen(second) + 1]; ... Q: How do you "append"? A: Just write everything in "first" to "result". As soon as you're done, then continue by writing everything in "second" to result (starting where you left off). When you're done, make sure to append '' at the end.
