This means if you keep your site running for a month, you will have to pay for ~744 hours (average hours in a month). Mixed deployment of Azure Websites using FTP and git
Actually, enabling git on your Azure site has no bearing on FTP access, and you should be able to upload your images into the site/wwwroot folder. Did you actually run into a read only issue, or were you just guessing that it would become readonly? You can either use a VM or you can use a web service for node.js. The first is cheaper. So if you go with this option you have to create a new virtual machine. Let's say a Ubuntu LTS. follow this tutorial for how to upload a vm. Now, you have to login in the VM using a ssh program as putty. Copy your code to a folder or use a program for secure copy as winSCP to do that. Azure websites with SSL on custom domains
Turns out the certificate itself was wrong. I received a crt certificate which I had to convert to pfx. I neglected to supply a private key with that. The pfx was constructed without private key. Azure doesn't complain about it, but it just doesn't work. I recommend using openssl to generate the csr (certificate request), not IIS. With openssl, a separate private key file generated which you can then include in the pfx. To construct the csr: openssl req -out CSR.csr -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout privateKey.key To create the pfx: openssl pkcs12 -export -out certificate.pfx -inkey privateKey.key -in certificate.crt -certfile CACert.crt

Is the filesystem on Azure Websites distributed?
The file system that is used by Windows Azure Web Sites sits on top of Windows Azure BLOB Storage. They expose the space as something similar to a SMB Share that the instances running the websites point to. So, as far as replication goes, there are three copies of the data just as there are three copies of all things in BLOB storage. The storage accounts that hold this data are maintained and owned by Microsoft, it isn't in your own subscription which is one of the reasons that you are capped to the 10GB of space across all of your websites in a subscription. I'm not sure if they have geo replication turned on for their storage accounts, but my guess is that they do. Like anything though, I'd highly recommend a process to backup anything you put into this space. You have access to it

Running a nodeJS sites in Azure Websites
Without seeing your actual server.js code (which you should insert into your question), I can only guess at what could be the issue. So... my guess is that your server.js isn't listening on the right port (of course, I could be wrong...). In the the node.js tutorial on the WindowsAzure.com site in the node.js developer section, there's a "Hello World" example that shows how you need to grab the port from the environment: var http = require('http') var port = process.env.PORT || 1337; http.createServer(function(req, res) { res.writeHead(200, { 'Content-Type': 'text/plain' }); res.end('Hello World '); }).listen(port); You can't just have your server listen on port 80. SMTP not working on Azure websites on 64 bit mode
I experienced this issue and discovered that I had conflicting values in the web.config file and the Azure app settings. I'm not sure exactly how these work in Azure because they don't seem to map directly to web.config app settings. After removing all Azure app settings (and leaving the web.config) ones, email sent via gmail without issue.

Why is AllowAnonymous not working while deployed to Azure Websites?
I had the exact same problem and like Jonas' update says, you need to look out for Actions that return Partial Views AND have the [Authorize] attribute. What you need to do is to remove the [Authorize] attribute and then if your action needs the user to be authenticated to render properly, have your code handle the unauthorized case. Example is if your page displays the currently logged in user's name via a Partial. Have your action display an empty string or something else if the currently logged in user is not available.

How can I limit access to RoleEnviroment on Azure for IIS Websites?
Interesting and smart approach. While there is no direct way to restrict access to RoleEnvironment, there some workarounds: Perform sanity check/scan on 3rd party assemblies and deny execution if they refer/use RoleEnvironment (not my favorite, but still a viable solution) Move configuration settings out from Cloud Settings file to Azure Storage Table (I prefer this one). Now the potential attacker will have access to Role names and configuration, but will not have access to settings. Both approaches have pros and cons, but I tend to like the second one the better. It is questionable which one involves more code to write but in either case the code you write will be reusable. And the benefit is bigger and better with the second approach. 403 when trying to list web spaces via Azure websites management REST API
OK so now I feel daft, and it just goes to show that even big companies can get it wrong.. I have been playing a bit more and decided to drop a forward slash onto the end of the API call for the web spaces endpoint.. and... Bingo... it worked like a treat!!! Would have been nice if Microsoft was consistent across it's API endpoints, the hosted services end point for instance didn't need this trailing slash. Also, accurate error messages would have been nice too, instead of just reporting an invalid credentials exception!!! As always.. the simple things in life :(

Hosting multiple websites dynamically in Azure web roles
Is it possible to modify the sites in a webrole while its running? Yes if you RDP into it and change it. That would be instance specific though and would need to be repeated for each instance. Not recommended, but possible. Otherwise theres no other way. How do you setup the routes? No different than how you do it normally in IIS. Will the appdomain recycle if you change the site? If changes are to the binaries (/bin) yup. It's just regular IIS at play in a WebRole, no different. Any pitfalls: This sounds like an interesting idea and if you re putting it out on github/codeplex i'd be interested. Since I have not tried this so can't comment on the pitfalls.

Solved - kind of: Using a pure python mysql driver works ( as I kind of guessed it might, this being caused by an environment limitation of azure ) For future reference - this project sorted it all out for me: https://github.com/jloic/django-mysql-pymysql note: Azure seems not to pick up python eggs in site-packages, so I had to extract the contents into site-packages and tadaa it all worked. Next step is to try using the cython version, although the speed of the site seems fine so far.

Elmah does not send emails on errors running on windows azure websites
I had a similar issue and got help from Microsoft Support. Apparently, switching from 64 bits to 32 bits in the Azure dashboard fixes it. 64 bits and it's "access denied", 32 bits and the emails go through. OK, apparently the Azure team rolled a fix for this 64 bits issue. 64 bits and 32 bits work for me. They say they deployed the fix yesterday (2013/06/20).

Three points to check: Do you feed the buffer fast enough? If not, the increased gap is due to your data providing code, not due to an internal behaviour of the processor. In SQL Server, you don't get to define how much storage a decimal takes up - SQL Server has fixed storage requirements. So I think we have to ignore the Byte Length, if I'm interpreting that as a storage size requirement. As to the rest, in SQL Server, you declare decimal as: decimal (p ,s) Where p is the precision (total number of digits in all parts of the number), and s is the scale (number of digits to the right of the decimal point). Since all of the types you've shown have a larger "decimal length" that "Dec Pos", I'm going to assume that these concepts map across directly to decimals precision and scale. So type number 1 would be decimal(3,0) and number 16 would be decimal(9,4).

On start of asp.net mvc 4 application getting ambiguous exception- Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length
I ran into the same issue and was able to resolve it. It turns out that at some point I fat-fingered something while in Global.asax.cs. I ended up changing the method Application_Error to Application_ (with a new line after it, stupid wide fingers...). This is what was causing the error to appear for me. Rewriting it as Application_Error resolved the issue.
