For an Excel Formula's variable taking a Range, input row number by the result of a formula
Try using the INDIRECT function:)
say you have three cell that can dynamically calculate the address of your
input range.
something like what you suggested and it is in the cell A1
="$BB$2:$BB$" & COUNTA(BB2:BB1000) > in cell A1
You can use the Indirect function like this:
=SERIES(INDIRECT(A1),[RANGE],[RANGE])
Hope this helps!

How to read and excel cell address, when it is open and cell contains a formula
You Just open your excel file using interop code this will allow addin code
to run side by side. then you can use cell value using interop calls.
Excel.Application xlApp = new
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.ApplicationClass();
xlApp.Visible = true;
Excel.Workbook newWb = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(fileName,
Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
Type.Missing);
xlApp.ActiveSheet.get_Range("A10", Type.Missing).Value2;

Excel VBA setting cell value to a formula
Something like....
Sheets("Standalone Non Clustered").Range("G10").Formula =
"=CEILING(Worksheet!$G$9*(1+Worksheet!$G$10+Info!$B$14),5)"
Sheets("Standalone Non Clustered").Range("G10:P10").FillRight

Excel Formula Not Updating Cell
You have to explicitly trigger a recalculation. See the Recalculation of
Formulas section here about why & how to do it.

Excel formula only working on first cell
First, delete everything in the missing groups column (or copy it somewhere
else, just in case).
then enter this formula in C2
=IF(ISNA(MATCH(TRIM([@[All Groups]]),TRIM([Site Collection
Groups]),0)),TRIM([@[All Groups]]),"")
Then press ctrl+Shift+Enter (instead of just enter)
This will trim both the single entry for column A and all of the entries
for column B. It also uses table references for everything (instead of
referencing A2, etc).

How to check excel cell style using formula?
Here's a solution by filtering:
Apply a filter on the columns containing the answers
Select the columns containing the answers and do a replace (or hit Ctrl+H)
Hit the Options >> button and click on Format for the Find and pick Font >
Bold
For the replace, do the same thing but pick Fill > Yellow (or any other
colour you like). You should get something like this now:
Click Replace All button so that all the bold answers are now highlighted.
Filter the first column of answers by colour so that you have only the
highlighted cells. Assuming that the first answer A is in cell B2, put the
formula =B2 in the last column (i.e. 4 columns before and same row) and
fill down the formula.
Repeat step 6 for all the other answers making sure you are taking the
right column in the formula.
Remove the

Excel formula to find reference used by other cell
Assuming that your entries are in Cells A1:A7, you can do it this way ...
In Cell B1, the formula =MAX(A1:A7) and
in Cell B2, the cell location of the maximum number in the range (shown in
B1) is given by the formula
=CELL("address",INDEX(A1:A7,MATCH(MAX(A1:A7),A1:A7,0)))
OR
=ADDRESS(MATCH(MAX(A1:A7),$A$1:A7,0),1)
Mark as answer if it helps.

Excel: get cell collection of cells that contain certain text or formula
Paste this macro in your macro editor in your workbook (ALT+F11)
Sub test()
Dim w As Worksheet, r As Range
For Each w In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
For Each r In w.UsedRange
If r.Value = "Certain text" Or r.Formula = "Certain Formula" Then
'Do what you want to do here
End If
Next
Next
End Sub
Hope this helps

Excel formula to the value of a cell based on two cells' values
In case this helps, the following formulae seem to display the values at
the corners, assuming Measure is a named range starting in A1 and value1
and value2 are named ranges:
=INDEX(Measure,IFERROR(MATCH(value1,A:A,0),MATCH(value1,A:A,1)),IFERROR(MATCH(value2,1:1,0),MATCH(value2,1:1,1)))
=INDEX(Measure,IFERROR(MATCH(value1,A:A,0),MATCH(value1,A:A,1)),IFERROR(MATCH(value2,1:1,0),MATCH(value2,1:1,1)+1))
=INDEX(Measure,IFERROR(MATCH(value1,A:A,0),MATCH(value1,A:A,1)+1),IFERROR(MATCH(value2,1:1,0),MATCH(value2,1:1,1)))
=INDEX(Measure,IFERROR(MATCH(value1,A:A,0),MATCH(value1,A:A,1)+1),IFERROR(MATCH(value2,1:1,0),MATCH(value2,1:1,1)+1))

Excel formula needs to grab one part of cell data
I admit I don't understand your question (but suspect it's not just me or
you would have had an answer by now!) However, maybe:
=TRIM(LEFT(CLEAN(B4),FIND(B3,B4)1))
would help, where B3 contains Response Summary: which I assume is the
"certain field".
I am not even clear why the tags (Excel) when the macro is *ex*porting from

How to optimize dirty cell optimization when using volatile formula in Excel (like INDIRECT() )?
Not the answer you want, but...
Don't use Formulas.
A user defined formula won't help either because of the limitations of what
you can do inside them.
Recommend as previous comment suggested moving calculation into a pattern
similiar to...
1. pull all sheet data into a 2D array.
2. perform X transformations on data.
3. push data back into an equaly sized sheet address, to the 2D array.

Excel formula > how to change SUMPRODUCT formula to skip null cells
In the sumproduct, to exclude empty cells, suppose you're using it on range
A1:A100, you could do the following:
= Sumproduct((A1:A100),(A1:A100<>""))
That second criteria will ensure that you're only looking at cells that
have a value in them...
As an explanation (A1:A100<>"") will return an array of True False,
where, if there is a value in the cell, it returns true, otherwise, false.
Then, including the before it, it converts True/False to 1/0. So, in
effect, you're multiplying empty cells by a zero (excluding from the
formula) and nonempty cells by 1 (including them in the formula).
The (logical statement for my array) is a very useful trick to use with
SumProduct() in MANY different ways!!

Convert Java/C style formula to excel formula
You can use built in Excel functions to substitute desired strings instead
of other determined strings, such as:
=SUBSTITUTE(D2,"AND"," == ")
You can also read the formula into a string in VBA, perform the same
operation, and place the formula back in excel. The
strFormula = Cells(2, 4).Formula
strFormula = Replace(strFormula, "AND", " == ")
Cells(2, 4).Formula = strFormula
I hope this helps.

how to display data that is related to a specific cell in excel 2010?
Perhaps try the solution here it's a bit tricky to explain without
copypasting the whole thing:
http://superuser.com/questions/536234/excelhowtovlookuptoreturnmultiplevalues
Also take a look at vlookup() if you're working across spreadsheets.

Is it possible to display a message in an adjacent cell on Excel if there are ANY exact matches on the sheet?
I would go with the countif function
=COUNTIF(B4:C7,F7) > apply this in for example cell D4
Where B4:C7 is your range and F7 is the value that you want to compare. Now
a second step would be a new IF to check if the value of D4 is higher than
0, then you can assume there exists the number already:
=IF(D4>0,"Found","not Found")
This would be the first step, now if you want to know where it is the same,
you compare it with the Values simply.

Use position relative inside display:tablecell in Firefox. Wrapper solution prevent vertical align : middle
After some tests, I have found a solution.
instead of putting the div wrapper inside infobox_mainpic, I put
infobox_mainpic inside a a div with a relative position. This way, the
arrows are correctly positioned and the img is still inside the tablecell
div so it is correctly centered.

Display complete jtextarea content into single cell of excel file during export.
I would guess the problem is that you have new line characters in your
output file. So you would need to replace those characters with a blank
character so they appear together on a single line in Excel.

SQL Formula Answer is Different from Excel Formula
Firstly, the question is tagged with MySQL, but the syntax used looks
suspiciously like SQLServer, as such I will do all the demonstrations with
SQLServer syntax.
Secondly, based on the magnitude of the error (to the order of 10), I think
you have your calculations mixed up, you appear to be saying that in the
below 3 columns
sum ([Impacts]) as 'column1',
sum (nullif([Resp 2],0)) as 'column2',
sum (nullif([Resp 2],0)/nullif([Impacts]*1000,0)) as 'column3'
the third column is not giving you the same result as if you did the
(column2 / (column1 * 1000) in excel, however this is not the same formula.
I think what you need is:
NULLIF(SUM([Resp 2]), 0) / (NULLIF(SUM(Impacts) * 1000, 0) AS [Resp 2%]
Imagine this simple example (I have removed the NULLIF operators to make
the difference

How to read cell value from formula cell using apache poi
The method you're looking for is Cell.getCachedFormulaResultType for a
formula cell that'll tell you the type of the formula result
You code can then be something like:
private void handleCell(int type, Cell cell) {
if (type == HSSFCell.CELL_TYPE_STRING) {
ar.add(cell.getStringCellValue());
} else if (type == HSSFCell.CELL_TYPE_NUMERIC) {
ar.add(cell.getNumericCellValue());
} else if (type == HSSFCell.CELL_TYPE_BOOLEAN) {
ar.add(cell.getBooleanCellValue());
} else if (type == HSSFCell.CELL_TYPE_FORMULA) {
// Rerun based on the formula type
handleCell(cell.getCachedFormulaResultType(), cell);
} else {
ar.add("");
}
}
public void handleSheet(Sheet sheet)

Generating a new Excel while retaining old formula from template Excel file
If you have access to the Cell, simply call:
String formula = cell.getCellFormula();
Note though that this will only work if the cell is formula cell. IE:
cell.getCellType() == Cell.CELL_TYPE_FORMULA. If the cell is not a formula
cell, you're going to end up with an IllegalStateException as described in
the API

Trying to use the value in one cell to populate a formula in another cell
Hmm, not sure why you put them between quotes, because, well, quotes makes
it a literal string and no substitution will be performed in the formula.
Try this instead:
=SUMIF(I:I,">="&Y5,J:J)SUMIF(I:I,">="&AA5,J:J)
The & is concatenating the operator to the substituted value.

Excel VBA Formula not working in German excel
This wouldn't work under English locale, too. * & is not a valid
sequence of operators.
My psychic powers tell me you want to embed Calc into the formula as a
literal, in which case it should be
Range("A2").Formula = "= B2 *C2 * " & Str$(Calc)
You have to use Str to have Calc converted into a string according to the
English locale, required by Formula. You could leave it as is if using
FormulaLocal.

Link formula using cell's value
You would need to use INDIRECT
=INDIRECT("'"&Path&"["&WbName&"]Sheet1'!$D$4")
but that will only work if the source workbook is open (in which case you
don't need the path!). If you have the MOREFUNC addin installed it has an
INDIRECT.EXT function which is supposed to work with closed workbooks (I
don't use it so can't comment from experience)

Do something for each cell that is a formula and in column K or row 50?
Try this
With srcWbk.Sheets("BSC")
For Each ran In Union(.Rows(55),
.Columns("K")).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeFormulas)
trgtWbk.Sheets("BSC").Range(ran.Address).Formula = ran.Formula
Next ran

VBA setting the formula for a cell
Try:
.Formula = "='" & strProjectName & "'!" & Cells(2, 7).Address
If your worksheet name (strProjectName) has spaces, you need to include the
single quotes in the formula string.
If this does not resolve it, please provide more information about the
specific error or failure.
Update
In comments you indicate you're replacing spaces with underscores. Perhaps
you are doing something like:
strProjectName = Replace(strProjectName," ", "_")
But if you're not also pushing that change to the Worksheet.Name property,
you can expect these to happen:
The file browse dialog appears
The formula returns #REF error
The reason for both is that you are passing a reference to a worksheet that
doesn't exist, which is why you get the #REF error. The file dialog is an
attempt to let

Format cell based on formula value
Perhaps
Sub Format()
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim WS As Worksheet
dim rCell as range
Set WS = Sheets("sheet1")
LastRow = WS.range("F" & WS.Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
for each rcell in WS.range("F2:F" & LastRow).cells
if clng(Left(Right(rcell.value, 2), 1)) < 3 Then
rcell.Interior.ColorIndex = 10
next rcell
End Sub

Formula to get the first cell with a numerical value from a selection?
You can simplify the last number formula by using LOOKUP, i.e.
=LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,B:B)
and for the first number try this
=INDEX(B:B,MATCH(1,INDEX(ISNUMBER(B:B)+0,0),0))

Row in formula change based on value in another cell
You should be able to use the INDIRECT worksheet function to achieve that.
So e.g. if cell A1 contains the value 7, your formula would be
=CONCATENATE("Dear ",INDIRECT("'Linkage Log'!I"&A1), "Blah Blah Blah")

Excel Macro Search Range of Cell for 0, then return "empty" cell
You don't need VBA (or even formulas) to do this.
Highlight Column A (the entire column), copy it.
Highlight Column B (the entire column, right click, Paste Special, select
values and number formats, okay.
Highlight Column B again. Press Ctrl+H, Type 0 (or failing that it might be
00/01/1900) in the 'find what', leave the 'replace with' one blank. Tick
Match entire cell contents. Click replace all.
Done.

Excel Pivot table filter by cell value and cell value does not exist
You could hide the rows with VBA when the cell value is blank.
http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168361
I dont think it is possible to hide the entire pivot table. Only the
fields I believe. Would be interested to see if it can be hidden though.

Excel 2010 VBA Get the left side cell of the current cell?
Solved it! But check out brettdj's answer. I guess it's better.
Sub LoopRange()
Dim rCell As Range
Dim rRng As Range
Set rRng = Sheet1.Range("B1:B1000")
For Each rCell In rRng.Cells
If Not IsEmpty(rCell.Value) Then
rCell.Offset(0, 1) = rCell.Value
End If
Next rCell
End Sub

Excel If a value in cell a2>8 automatically move to cell D2 to enter text
You don't provide much information. Which cells get changed and contribute
to A2? Are there similar columns that would require a different cell to be
selected? Please edit your question and add a few more details about the
data structure.
The following macro works on the assumption that cell A2 gets changed
manually.
Option Explicit
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim shOvertime As Worksheet
Set shOvertime = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("2013 Overtime")
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("A2")) Is Nothing Then
If Range("A2") > 8 Then
shOvertime.Activate
shOvertime.Range("D2").Select
End If
End If
End Sub
If your data structure is different, please explain it.
To get the code to work, rightclick on the sheet tab and select "View
Code" to open the Vi

Excel file size and memory of large, sparsely populated sheet
Pre2007 file formats will probably have a significant size difference. But
with the newer storage formats that save as .xml inside the zip container,
such data anomalies do not have much impact.
Twist my arm =)

Excel Visual Basic executing a command if two cells in the same column are populated
This is a way to do it :
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim myCol As Range
For Each myCol In Worksheets("sheet1").Range("C4:SH5").Columns
If myCol.Cells(1, 1) <> "" And myCol.Cells(2, 1) <> "" Then
MsgBox "Both " & myCol.Cells(1, 1).Address & " and " &
myCol.Cells(2, 1).Address & " are not empty"
End If
Next myCol
End Sub
Basically iterate over the columns in the specified range, and apply the
condition to the cells in each column.

Display Excel inside VB6 / VB.NET Form & work with Excel without excel menu
As far as I can tell this is not possible. The reason being that you
cannot subclass the excel window in VBA.
If you program outside of excel with VB.NET or VB6 it would be sort of
possible, but would probably not work really good.
If you only want to display some data from a sheet and perform some small
actions on them, you could probably read the Data via the EPPLUS Library,
display them as a datatable (EPPLUS can convert between datatable and excel
files), perform your actions and save them to the file afterwards. But this
would only work in VB.net

Does there exist a VBA command which does not change the formula of a cell, but its value?
You cannot change the value of a cell to something different than what the
cell formula computes to.
Regarding your p.s.: You can probably change the formula of a cell without
reevaluation by changing the calculation mode to manual. But that would of
course apply to the entire workbook, not just this one cell
EDIT: maybe a solution would be to temporarily save the formula of the cell
in either a tag of that cell, or a hidden worksheet?

how to save a formula array in a cell to a vba variable

PivotCache Refresh Cell formula return #Value
The problem turned out to be with
.PivotTables(PivotName).PivotCache.Refresh
in the UDF and not fixed with Application.Volatile. However @GSerg’s
solution without p.update seems to have worked.

If Cell Starts with Text String... Formula
I'm not sure lookup is the right formula for this because of multiple
arguments. Maybe hlookup or vlookup but these require you to have tables
for values. A simple nested series of if does the trick for a small sample
size
Try
=IF(A1="a","pickup",IF(A1="b","collect",IF(A1="c","prepaid","")))
Now incorporate your left argument
=IF(LEFT(A1,1)="a","pickup",IF(LEFT(A1,1)="b","collect",IF(LEFT(A1,1)="c","prepaid","")))
Also note your usage of left, your argument doesn't specify the number of
characters, but a set.

think there's anything wrong with techonthenet, but I rather link to
official sources.
