connecting to mac localhost via windows computer sharing the same network
Providing that you edited the hosts file in Windowssystem32driversetchosts, it should normally work most of the time. If it doesn't, the only thing I can think off is that it it sometimes necessary to reset and clear the cache in Windows 7. You can have a look at Windows 7 refresh DNS for guidance. There is a step by step post here.

Callback on device connecting to Wifi Hotspot
If you don't need to use the AP to connect to the internet but just to communicate in a LAN, you can create a P2P group with WifiP2pManager instance createGroup and listen to WifiP2pManager.WIFI_P2P_CONNECTION_CHANGED_ACTION with a broadcast receiver. Like this: if (WifiP2pManager.WIFI_P2P_CONNECTION_CHANGED_ACTION.equals(action)){ NetworkInfo networkInfo = intent.getParcelableExtra(WifiP2pManager.EXTRA_NETWORK_INFO); if (networkInfo.isConnected()) { Manager.requestConnectionInfo(mChannel, new WifiP2pManager.ConnectionInfoListener(){ @Override public void onConnectionInfoAvailable(final WifiP2pInfo info) { if (info.isGroupOwner) { mManager.requestGroupInfo(mChannel, new WifiP2pManager.GroupInfoLi

Connecting multiple devices in a Wifi Direct group
Once A is a group owner, it can't initiate any more connections. The connection has to be initiated by the device outside the group. When you try to connect using wifi-direct, you're setting up a wifi network with the group owner as the access point. If you try to connect again, you're going to be trying to set up a new wifi network, which will force you to leave the old one. Short version: Each device can only connect once.

Android Client App with 3G and WIFI Network
When you are on the same network then you give the the ip the ROUTER gave to your pc and phone (assuming that what your using) and it looks something like 192.168.0.1012 (its your router Default address + 1 each time a device connects to the router) ... The problem is that when you want to connnect from an outside source you must give the ip of your real address given by your ISP. go to command erminal and type ipconfig and look for IPv4 ------ thats your real ip when looking from the "outside" world , now thats not all you also need to configure your router to port forwad the ports your using to the specific PC that is the server. How what and why : Port Forwarding hope this helps.

Wifi EAP auth at login to network account on OsX and Win
what you would like to achieve is usually done by using 802.1X: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.1X. A possible solution could look like this: Each client/notebook (not the user) has a certificate from a common trsuted source (a PKI) The client request a connection on your 802.1X Access Point who forwards the Request to a defined authentication service (usually a wireless controller and subsequently a radius server). This can be done by EAP protocol for example. Depending on the authentication result, the client can connect. In this scenario a certificate is used so that the client/notebook can connect before any windows login happened. Hope this helps to get you started.

Internet access from friend's wifi over GSM network
GSM is a circuit-switched, voice-optimised service, not a data service. You mention making a "call" - this word is normally used for voice calls. So that's the first problem. The second problem would be getting a data connection between your phone and your friend's phone. The snag is, that you can't make a data connection directly to someone else's phone using the GPRS/UMTS/LTE networks. You can only make a data connection (eg a PDP context) from your phone to a server in your operator's core network. Then you make an IP connection on top of that, to whatever websites you want. So your friend's phone would have to be a web server, for example, and it would also have to be connected to the network. To connect your phone with your friend's, you need a peer to peer data connection, like

Check availability of hidden wifi network
The SSIDs of hidden networks are, well hidden. So they are not broadcasting their SSIDs. To check the availability of a hidden network, you should try to connect to the network. If it succeeds, its there, otherwise not. A second option to is sniff for traffic in the network in monitor mode, and look for the corresponding BSSID. That requires root though, and some tool or app that allows you to do that. The first option will always work, but you have be active. The second allows you to passively check networks, but requires root.

How to intercept connection to a Wifi network most efficiently on Android
You can determine the type of a network event by requesting his extra informations. First, make sure that you registered an IntentFilter on the WifiManager.NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION action and bind it to a proper BroadcastReceiver. Then in the receiver's onReceive method, you can check if the received event is a NetworkInfo.State.CONNECTED event : @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { NetworkInfo networkInfo = intent.getParcelableExtra(WifiManager.EXTRA_NETWORK_INFO); if (networkInfo != null && networkInfo.getState().equals(NetworkInfo.State.CONNECTED) ) { // Do whatever you want } }

Assign static IP address for Wifi network on Android 3.x and 4.x
Now i can say: "I caught it" I spent many days by looking for better, cleaner and for 100% working solution how actual (now i guess currently only one solution) solution with reflection is. But without result. So i tried again to use mentioned solution with reflection here: How to configue static IP, netmask ,gateway programmatically on Android 3.x or 4.x and suprisingly it works! And now i know what i was missing. So everyone who tried this solution on device with API greater than 10 (sice Honeycomb) make sure you called: wifiManager.saveConfiguration(); it's not enough to call only wifiManager.updateNetwork(wifiConfiguration); bacause changes (also made via reflection) won't be permanently saved to specific WifiConfiguration. So now it works as expected and now a little sum

Establish signal strength impact on wifi network speed
It's a well-studied topic in EE and CS. WiFi network throughput mainly depends on two factors: signal-to-noise (SNR) value, and network congestion. The former one is a physical-layer (PHY) issue, while the latter one a MAC layer issue. Data rate measured at both layers are definitely different. At PHY, data rate is determined by SS (or more precisely, signal-to-noise ratio). Higher SS means higher data rate, according to Shannon's information theory. Data rate at PHY assumes that a single WiFi device transmits continuously without any contention. But this is not the case in real world. 54Mbps is a typical PHY data rate with high SS. At MAC, data rate is got by PHY data rate multiplied by the percentage of time a WiFi device win the contention under CSMA protocol. Even if there's only one

Using Wifi Direct to connect an Android App to PC
I have tried file sharing and other media sharing through Intel WIFI Direct technology to ANDROID WIFI Direct. But it doesn't work as per my experience. It shows devices connected with WIFI Direct and file sharing not supported :) funny but sad ! So my advice would be, first explore whether you can at least connect and do some operations on ANDROID PHONES with Intel software installed on PC. Try with different devices. Don't forget to turn off your firewall on android as well as PC ! If your experiment works, then dig deeper to find about API's. This technology is still in its nascent stage. GOOD LUCK :)

How to connect to a servlet when both machines are on the same wifi?
This is certainly doable if you do not have any firewall rules blocking such access on the host machine. As 'Eng.Found' pointed out, try using the IP address that is assigned to the Server. If 10.0.2.2. tries to connect to the dev machine itself, it certainly is not the IP address of the Server. To detail it further, First make sure you can access the servlet via localhost on the Server itself. If yes, then get the ip address of the Server and ping it from your dev machine/another device. If you can ping it then you have access to the machine. Else you might have to make sure that some firewall rule(s) is not blocking it. Ping however cannot be associated with ports so you can use a command like 'netstat' on the Server's console to get a list of all ports its listening to (if desired).

Connecting to a SQL DB through PHP on another network
Well, easiest would be to gain access through a public IP to server B so you can connect to it directly. If that's not possible, another option is to set up a slave database on server A that is updated via replication from server B and query it directly on A. However, replication can be a pain to manage and you can't write to it, only read. You could also set up a proxy on A on a different port to route through to B, though I can't help you there, I'm no sys admin. I don't really get how A can talk to B but your server can't, that doesn't make any sense, if you can set up the permissions for A to talk to B, you should be able to do the same for your server.

Can't connect to Xively using Arduino + wifi shield, "ret = -1 No sockets available"
Thanks for providing so much background on your question, it made it easy to test and figure out what your issue is. As long as you are connecting to your wifi ok, it looks like your code should be good to go except for all the imports. All I did was remove the extra imports you had at the beginning. Regarding setting your own DNS server, you can do this but this may have been what was causing your issues. If you are worried about DNS you are better of setting the IP manually and not relying on DNS. Below is my reworked version of what I copied from your code. Hopefully it will work with your network and feed. I tested it on an UNO and Mega ADK (only Mega I had) with official Arduino WiFi shield and it worked on both. // Libraries in use #include <SPI.h> #include <WiFi.h> #in

I cannot connect to my Arduino WiFi shield server, but I can ping it
After many days of internet browsing, I finally came across the solution (located here): The Arduino IDE version should be downgraded from 1.0.5 to 1.0.2. Uninstall your later version and reinstall version 1.0.2, install your device's driver again if necessary, and upload the code using the older version of the Arduino IDE. I hope this helps others who have the same issue as me.

Use NFC to connect android device to wifi without any 3rd party software
Why not just put a download link for your app on the NFC tag? If the device has an internet connection, tapping the tag will launch the browser (or the Google Play app) and follow the download link. It's not really up to you to demand that the device connects to a wifi network first.

Connecting to Oracle database(Not XE) without being on network
Your listener has to be configured to listen to your localhost internal interface, 127.0.0.1, for you to be able to connect when not on a network. If it's only configured with your network adapter's IP address you will only be able to connect while on the network. When you unplug your LAN cable the interface associated with that IP is disabled and no longer reachable, even from within your PC. You will also have problems if your IP is allocated by DHCP, and would need to use a DNS name that follows reallocation; that's why servers usually have fixed IPs. You can configure the listener to use both addresses if you need to be able to connect locally when off the network, but have other clients connect to your database when you are on the network. Having a DB that others need to access on a

Database not found error when connecting to Derby network server
By the JDBC url, it's looks like you're trying to connect to a Derby server vs. an embedded instance. If you are trying to connect to a server instance, here are some considerations: did you start the server yourself, did mydb already exists? if not, did you pass in the correct params to create (e.g. ;create=true) example: jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/dbname;create=true if mydb did exists, are you pointing the server to the correct location? also, depending on what was used to start derby (e.g. embedded vs network driver) default database locations are different as well. You can read about it here Basically the exception you're getting is that Derby's saying it can't find your database - it's basically a path issue.

always use WIFI in Windows Mobile 6.5 C#
I am not sure but I assume you can handle this using provisioning and specifying the Desktop-Passthru-Connection (ActiveSync/WMDC), also called DTPT, as unsecure and the WiFi/LAN connection as secure (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455851.aspx). That should work, as the connMgr first uses the 'secure' connection. STOP: I just read the note on the linked site: "Note Setting the value of Secure to false is not supported for Desktop Passthrough (DTPT) connections. DTPT was designed to work as a secure connection.". So this approach is no option for DTPT. Another approach would be to specify the DTPT connection as a 'Work' connection, wheras (I assume) your connection request is for an 'Internet' connection. Example provisioning: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms890844.a

Cannot Connect To SQL Within Azure Network
Have you created the appropriate Windows Azure SQL Database firewall rules for your VMs in Windows Azure? You can use either the special 0.0.0.0 for all of Windows Azure or, better, provide the public VIP of your IaaS cloud service (not the private DIP of the individual VMs). The latter limits firewall access to only your cloud service, since the outbound connection to WASD will use your public VIP. Note that if you delete (or stop/deallocate) all the VMs in your cloud service you will lose the VIP.

Java create wifi hotspot in Windows 8
I was researching a little bit about elevate tool and I made some tests. Then I create a single process for each netsh command you want to run (I made a little modifications but only for testing purposes). Disclaimer: Tested on Windows 7 Home, not Windows 8. Finally, as @damryfbfnetsi pointed out in his comment, you should use ProcessBuilder instead of Runtime as follows: public static void main(String[] args) { try { System.out.println("-

How to connect two computers on the same network using python
You are connecting from the client to the client's computer, or well attempting to, because you are using the client's hostname rather than the servers hostname/ip address. So, to fix this change the line s.connect((host, port)) so that the host points to the servers ip address instead of the client's hostname. You can find this by looking at your network settings on the server and doing the following: host = "the ip found from the server's network settings"
