Create a VS 2012 Extension for a Windows forms project
I figured this out. You need to add CommandBar to a CommandBars collection in your code and map it to the key "Item' if you want it to work for a single file. Do this in the OnConnected() method. CommandBars cmdBars = (CommandBars)(_applicationObject.CommandBars); CommandBar vsBarItem = cmdBars["Item"];

Visual Studio: Programmatically Create Project Items in project directory
That's roughly how I add my cpp file, should be no different in your case. The code will add the file under "SourceFilesSomeFolder" in the project and also in the "Source Files" folder in the project view tree (it should be already there). Project project = null; // you should get the project from the solution or as active project or somehow else string fileName = "myFileName.cpp"; string fileRelativePath = "SourceFiles\SomeFolder\" + fileName; // First see if the file is already there and delete it (to create an empty one) string fileFullPath = Path.GetDirectoryName(project.FileName) + "\" + fileRelativePath; if (File.Exists(fileFullPath)) File.Delete(fileFullPath); // m_applicationObject here is DTE2 or DTE2 string templatePath = (m_applicationObject.Solution as Solution2).Projec

How do I used a database I created in MS SQL Server 2008 R2 with a VS C# Project?
You need to use ADO.NET, which is comprised of a connection object (SqlConnection), command object (SqlCommand), parameters objects (SqlParameter) and data sets (DataSet) or data readers (SqlDataReader). Read A Beginner's Tutorial for Understanding ADO.NET.

Programmatically unprotect MS Excel VBA project in Windows 8
I had the same issue with Module password. However and i know this sounds a little twisted but the only way i could work out how to unprotect the module was to locally store a copy of the module unprotected, use code to remove the exiting module and export in the unprotected version, then make the changes required using VBA then do vise verse back again. utilizing the export and import function on the module. you'll need to store the protected and unprotected versions locally in separate folders. Hope this helps!

Create Solution/Project programmatically without Visual Studio
I think generating the solution is a little extreme. The solution file structure hasn't changed much since 2005 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb165951(v=VS.80).aspx, and there are a few projects trying to automate their generation, like Premake https://bitbucket.org/premake. However, the kind of scenario you describe, might be I believe (better?) adressed with t4 templates http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/bb126445.aspx, or only project file generation.

Choosing the right project type and Windows Azure Services for SignalR ASP.NET project
Take a look at SignalR Scaleout - most likely, you want to develop your web application and deploy the web application to an Azure Cloud Service. The Cloud Service runs any number of instances behind a load balancer without any configuration on your part other than pointing your CNAME record to the Cloud Service. For the SignalR part, to make it scalable, you will want to use the Azure Service Bus Relay as a backplane for your SignalR implementation (again, load balanced without you having to woory lots about configuring/maintaining). The referenced example is a good start.

Do you want to debug the service or code that service runs? In the past I would create one project for a service, one project for a library that contains the logic, and one project for a console app that would be used to test and debug the logic locally. That setup covered most of the debugging needs. Hope this helps!

Why would a Java/Maven project created on Windows, not run on Linux - Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute
This could happen because of encoding issues. Many IDE:s use some platform dependent encoding to encode its files unless you specify otherwise. It is a wise idea to use UTF-8 as encoding to make sure all the files are encoded in a platform independent fashion. How this is done depends on the IDE. Also, it is wise to specify the encoding in Maven, as specified in the official FAQ: <project> ... <properties> <project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding> </properties> ... </project>

Is building the project manually a good way
Integrating Maven is always a good idea. That way the build process isn't IDE-specific, and developers can work on the project in different IDEs. I use NetBeans which has easy Maven integration. I know that Eclipse has a popular and well-maintained Maven plugin. Not familiar with MyEclipse, however... As for learning Maven, I would recommend this free online text: http://books.sonatype.com/mvnex-book/reference/index.html

manually renaming project in eclipse workspace
Go into the project folder, delete the .project and .classpath files, and the .settings folder. These contain outdated Eclipse-specific metadata, which is why Eclipse can't find your project. Go back into Eclipse, and go File -> New project... -> Java project If it's stored in your workspace, just type in the new path in the Name field; If it's not stored in your workspace, untick "Use default path" and select the folder where your project is. Et voila! Eclipse will generate new metadata, and all your source/binaries will still be present.

I ran my project through their project converter which scans your references and web.config files and upgrades the entries to reflect the latest DLL's (if the ones you have are later than the ones you are pointing to in the web.config file), which was the case for me because I just copied the references from that page.

programmatically find the repository URL of a project
Look at this page for information about implementing what's called a repository provider for Eclipse. There's a repository provider for each version control "product": there's one for Git, one for SVN, etc. Basically there are two times when this provider gets called - when an Eclipse project gets associated with a provider and when the project becomes disassociated from the provider. It's at the first point where such things as the repository URL get stashed away in a provider-specific means. To answer your question, you'll have to know how the provider(s) associated with the projects stash the association metadata away. That's how and where your code will look to get the info you want.

Programmatically-created subfolder not visible in Windows Explorer
@dtb was too humble (or busy) to repost his comment (which solved my problem) as an answer, so I'll copy his comments here to make it easier for others to see how this turned out: "Check if you can find your directory & file somewhere in C:UsersJimCAppData (Folder virtualization). related: Why Virtualization on ProgramData folder in MS Vista?" How to run forms in VB project on separate threads while still being able to communicate
There are two things you should know. While it is perfectly possible to have two separate forms run on two separate threads, it is a bad design (unless you really know what you're doing). If you want to create a form on a separate thread, then you are also responsible for creating a message loop on that thread (otherwise your form will freeze). Concretely, you do this with Application.Run _thread = New Thread(Sub() Using frm As New SomeForm Application.Run(frm) End Using End Sub) _thread.Start() Communication between forms on different threads is no different from communication between a normal thread and a form. You could use a ConcurrentQueue of messages into

There are the steps to follow: 1) Create a class library in VS choose whatever language you want either Vb.NET or C# 2) Goto to Project Properties->ConfigurationProperties->build, check the Register for COM Interop checkbox. This creates the COM wrapper for your .NET assembly and hence need not use regasm. 3) Write whatever code you want, expose the classes publicly, expose the properties, functions you want publicly. Now in your VB6 project, add the claslibrary.tlb created by the above program. Now use the classes and functions as you want.

Visual Studio 2008: Added Project not showing up in Solution Explorer
I imagine that this is because the files don't exist. Have you created the project on a network drive somewhere? Have you renamed or moved the folder after adding it to the solution? Check the paths are right, then double check. Also check your version control to ensure someone hasn't wiped out your changes and left the .sln file intact. You can edit the .sln directly I suspect to double-check the exact path it's looking for. Verify that path exists too. Make sure the project you added was created in the same version of Visual Studio too.

How do I programmatically add a file to a visual studio project in C++?
There are two ways how you could do this. You simply treat the project as XML and you edit that XML. You use Visual Studio's COM/.NET APIs. It is not (IMHO) easy to do it using the Visual Studio APIs but it is doable. Start at MSDN's "How to: Get References to the DTE and DTE2 Objects" and follow the links.
