Unmount my external hard drive in bash
Searching for "Unmount Hard Drive Terminal" yields http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=842698 as the first result. >.> russlar provides a solution: open terminal, and run df -h. this will tell you all the hard drives mounted. then, run sudo umount /dev/something, where somethign is the name of the hard drive that you want to unmount. Nothing wrong with asking, but when a solution is on the first Google result, it's a little... odd.

How to remove file permissions on linux from an external hard drive?
To make the partition accessible under Linux run: sudo chmod -R 777 /media/<drive-name>/ this should make the mac drive accessible for you. Changing ownership would do about the same, but you need not worry about it.

How to make Gradle stop trying to chmod MANIFEST.MF on an NTFS drive
Gradle is trying to set default permissions for that file, and I can't see a way to stop it from doing that. (You could make it set different permissions, but I guess that won't help.) Under Windows/NTFS this normally works just fine, so it might be a problem with you Linux NTFS driver or configuration.

Adding a new hard drive to xampp
If you want to sort of "span" the drive, Windows has this handy feature (similar to linux's symlinking) called mklink which you can create a folder in the current directory that is just a symbolic link to the drive. Quick and easy way to span it. I am not sure of any downsides to do doing this, other than if the drive letter changes (if external drive). That way you should not have to add or change any of your paths in the config etc. Not sure if that is what you were looking for, but hopefully it helps. Also, did you try your 3rd config you pasted? Did it not work? From what I can see, as long as permissions are fine it should work that way.

Is there a way to read directly from the hard drive to the GPU
The GPU is not directly connected to the system RAM. There's a bus inbetween, in current generation computers a PCI-Express bus. ATA storage has a controller inbetween. There is no direct connection between memories. BUT there is DMA, which allows certain periphials to directly access the system memory through DMA channels. DMA on PCI-Express also works between periphials. Theoretically a GPU could do DMA to the ATA controller. Practically this is of little use! Why? Because of filesystems. Even if there was some kind of driver support to let the GPU access a storage periphial directly, it'd still have to do all the filesystem business, which doesn't parallelize to the degree as GPUs are designed for. Alas regarding your question: In my OpenGL program I read from the header file t

How to identify system hard drive using Win32_DiskDrive
The documentation you linked has the answer: string SerialNumber; uint32 Signature; Your management object will have those properties in it. If you're getting null for those values then the problem is that you're using a version of Windows that doesn't support them. SerialNumber ... Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP: This property is not available. In which case you have to use the Signature property, but this requires XP SP3 I believe.

Accessing a file on the server's hard drive
You cannot reach the file that is "above" the wwwroot folder by design. The way to do this is to a) copy the file there, b) setup a symbolic link (if on linux) or c) preferably, move / setup another web root folder. Alternatively, write a server script to dump the file contents.

Save Work Done In MS Word To A Database Not On A Hard Drive
The method you are using is extremely inefficient and I wouldn't recommend the process, but the reason that you code is failing is your length.... when you are saving your MemoryStream you are setting the length int len = Application.ActiveDocument.Content.StoryLength; but when you try to retrieve it, you are setting it int len = int.MaxValue; which would be far past the end of the data stream.

Single git repo setup tracking multiple locations on hard drive
No, there is no mechanism in git for this. Git assumes that all files that it manages (the "working copy") live in a single directory (and subdirectories); there is no support for managing two separate directories in in repo. So you'll have to somehow keep everything in one directory, probably as subdirectories HTMLTemplates and theme or similar. You could use two git repos, but I'd strongly advise against this. A single repo should contain a whole "project", i.e. everything needed to build one piece of software (excluding things like external libraries). If you split your project across two repositories, you cannot usefully branch and merge (because you'd have to do it in both repos simultaneously), you cannot easily check out old versions etc.. To solve your problem, I see a few poss

Create a new certificate if needed then create a new set of provisioning profiles. Install the updated profiles and update your apps to use the new profiles. That's it. Not that big of deal other than spending 30 minutes redoing this stuff.

How do I bind a WPF Image element to a PNG on the local hard drive using a relative filepath derived from a DB?
You need to use custom value converter to convert strings to images if you want to load files from the file system. Image.Source, when a string is passed, expects a file name from resources. You can find implementation of a such converter here: Display an image in WPF without holding the file open.

Serial Communication gets back wrong answer when something is running in the background (like browsing the hard drive)
Note: serialPort.Write(string) is a non-blocking store into the output buffer. That means the following won't guarantee you've even finished writing your request before you stop listening for a response: serialPort.Write(request); Thread.Sleep(50); _shouldStop = true; You could add: while( serialPort.BytesToWrite > 0 ) Thread.Sleep(1); // force blocking but it's ill advised. One thing I'm wondering. There is only a single serial port here. Why do you want many different threads to work with it when you could manage the entire serial port interaction with a single thread? (Or at worse, 1 thread for input 1 thread for output) To me it makes a lot more sense to store up requests into a queue of some kind and then peel them off one at a time for processing in a single threa

moving rows up and down on ext grid using ext4
It might be a lot easier to add an extra field to the store/model that ranks the records. This way you only have to change the rank-number and then filter the store. This should keep your selection intact. If you don't want this rank-field to be synced to the proxy, set the "persist" property false on the field. That's anyway better than using private parameters on the remove method.

VB.net on Raspbian OS (Linux & Mono)
You probably have only mono-runtime installed. To support VB.Net, you need an additional package (which contains Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll), it's called mono-basic IIRC. So simple sudo apt-get install mono-basic should give you the missing file. (or was it mono-vbnc? Can't check it, sold my raspberry-pi some month ago...)

How to get to last NTFS MFT record?
The MFT location isn't always fixed on the volume. You should get the starting MFT offset from the boot sector (sector 0 of the volume, you can find the structure online). The first file in the MFT is the "$MFT" file which is the file record for the entire MFT itself. You can parse the attributes of this file like any other file and get it's data run list. When you know the size of each fragment in clusters, parse the last cluster for each 1024 byte record of the last fragment (although I believe a fragmented MFT is rare). The last record in the MFT is the last record in that particular cluster marked "FILE0", if you encounter a null magic number that would be 1024 bytes too far. Or you can just get the file size from it's attributes and calculate the offset to the end of the MFT based o

NTFS vs. File Share
Short answer: No. In Windows each file and directory has an ACL controlling access to it. Each file share also has an ACL controlling access to the share. When you access a remote file through a share you are doing so using the credentials used to login to the local computer. (You can connect using different credentials by entering a username/password when connecting). The remote computer tests the supplied credentials against the ACL on the share. Once you are past that, then every file you attempt to access on the remote machine through this connection will be checked using your credentials against the ACL on the file and the share. This allows a file share to offer more restricted access to some files than if the same user were attempt to access them locally. (So you could share file

NTFS Journal USN_REASON_HARD_LINK_CHANGE event
As always with the USN, I expect you'll need to go through a bit of trial and error to get it to work right. These observations/guesses may, I hope, be helpful: When the last hard link to a file is deleted, the file is deleted; so if the last hard link has been removed you should see USN_REASON_FILE_DELETE instead of USN_REASON_HARD_LINK_CHANGE. I believe that each reference number refers to a file (or directory, but NTFS doesn't support multiple hard links to directories AFAIK) rather than to a hard link. So immediately after the event is recorded, at least, the file reference number should still be valid, and point to another name for the file. If the file still exists, you can look it up by reference number and use FindFirstFileNameW and friends to find the current links. Comparin

NTFS - file record size
It's not actually that much of a waste. You should try to look at what happens when the number of attributes stored in the file record exceeds 1 KB. (by adding additional file names, streams, etc.) It is not clear (to me at least) for different versions of NTFS if the additional attributes are stored in the data section of the volume or in another File Record. In previous versions of NTFS the size of a MFT File Record was equal to the size of a cluster (generally 4KB) which was a waste of space since sometimes all the attributes would take less than 1 KB of space. Since NT 5.0 (I may be wrong), after some research, Microsoft decided that all MFT File Records should be 1KB. So, one reason for storing that number may be backwards compatibility. Imagine you found an old hard drive which stil

Viewing Ciphertext of Encrypted File on NTFS (EFS)
The way you open an encrypted file in order to read its raw encrypted contents (e.g. for a backup/restore application) is to use the: OpenEncryptedFileRaw, ReadEncryptedFileRaw, WriteEncryptedFileRaw, and CloseEncryptedFileRaw api functions. NTFS sparse file data runs ($UsnJrnl)
No, it means that $UsnJrnl occupies 2576 clusters on disk. Sparse clusters don't occupy any space on disk, if you'd try to read sparse cluster, e.g. cluster 10 in your example, NTFS just returns zeros. Generally, you can't determine start and end cluster of the file, since files can be fragmented - your example says that first 1408 clusters are not allocated on disk at all, then 128 clusters of that file occupy disk clusters 510119 - 510247, then 2448 clusters of the file occupy disk clusters 256 - 2704; so in this case you can't say that file begins by cluster X (on disk) and ends by cluster Y (on disk) - it's possible only if file is not fragmented (when it uses only one cluster run).

access to ntfs stream for a very long filename fails
As the very helpful page on CreateFile says referring to the lpFileName parameter which specifies the filename: In the ANSI version of this function, the name is limited to MAX_PATH characters. To extend this limit to 32,767 wide characters, call the Unicode version of the function and prepend "?" to the path. Since you are contemplating BackupRead obviously you are wanting to access this stream programatically. If so, test things programatically. Trying all these operations from the command prompt is a crap-shoot and will not establish anything more than the ability to perform such operations from the command prompt. With that in mind, let's try this simple program - boilerplate code removed: #include "stdafx.h" int APIENTRY _tWinMain(HINSTANCE, HINSTAN
