ADO application compiled in Windows 7 runs in Windows 7 does not run in Windows XP, msado15.dll
I have found the solution. See the bolded section for my exact solution, although this may also solve others. (Taken from this website) Notes •Consider the scenario where you are a C++ developer, and you include the following line of code in the application: #import msado15.dll Consider the scenario that you are not using MSJRO, and you recompile the application on Windows Vista, on Windows Server 2008, or on later versions of Windows. The compiled application must run in Windows Vista, in Windows Server 2008, or in later versions of Windows. In this scenario, you must change #import msado15.dll to the following: #import msado60.tlb Consider the scenario that you are using MSJRO, and you recompile an application that must run in Windows Vista, in Windows Se

You should really use the SqlConnection then connecting to SQL Server - and you should execute your stored procedure using a standard SqlCommand - don't use the EXEC.... code. Using nsis to package application installer and .wav file does not play because of a path on Windows containing a space --> Program%20Files
getResource() returns a URL, and it has URL encoding applied here. You have two options. You can convert to a URI: String filename = this.getClass().getResource("/audio/siren.wav").toURI().getPath(); Or you can use URLDecoder to decode the path before passing it along to your AudioInputStream: String filename = this.getClass().getResource("/audio/siren.wav").getPath(); filename = URLDecoder.decode(filename, "utf-8"); See the blurb at the end of the intro section for java.net.URL.

installing a console application as a windows service in windows server 2003
Now I want to install this console app using the installutil.exe as a service. You need to convert it to a Windows Service application instead of a console application. See the Walkthrough: Creating a Windows Service on MSDN for details. The other option would be to use Windows Task Scheduler to schedule the system to run your Console Application. This can behave very similarly to a service without actually creating a service, as you can schedule the application to run on any schedule you choose.

windows mobile application development Windows 7 Operating System
I dont understand the question. I had to do nothing special as I installed Visual Studio 2008 and then the Windows Mobile 6 SDK. I assume, you already connected the WM device to your Win7 station. So you should have WMDC already installed. Otherwise install Windows Mobile Device Center from the MS site. Secondly install VS2008 (not express version, it does not support WM development). Then download and install Windows Mobile 6 (professionell) SDK and install. That is all, nothing special. I did it without any hassle on my Win7/64 PC. Should be the same for Win7/32. If you need further assistance be more specific in your description.

how to compile gtk+ application for native windows (and not for X windows)?
The application needs to be compiled using MinGW and not Cygwin. The full list of steps I followed: 1) Download MinGW 2) Install MinGW to a folder without spaces, e.g. to c:MinGW. 3) Download gtk+. Even though my machine is 64bit, I went for the 32 bit download of gtk+ because compatibility warnings on the 64bit download page. The GTK+ Win32 downloads are here. I went for the all-in-one version. 4) Extract gtk+ to a folder without spaces, e.g. c:gtk 5) If you don't already have an application, you can use the gtk+ hello world source code. Save this to a folder, e.g. c:myapp 6) Open a windows command prompt and cd to the folder in step 5. E.g. cd c:myapp 7) In the command window, add your MinGW folder to the windows PATH, e.g. c:myapp> set PATH=c:gtkin;%PATH% 8) In the

Is it possible to run windows application on windows azure
If, by "Windows application," you mean some type of Win32 console app that you run, then you can run that in either a Cloud Service (web/worker role) or Virtual Machine. With the former, you'll just need to download/setup the Windows app in your startup script - you can download from blob, or even include it in your deployment package, although that increases pkg size, slowing down upload when redeploying, and tightly coupling the win app to your deployment pkg. With Virtual Machines, you'd just need to install the Windows app one time on the virtual machine. You could then make an image of the virtual machine, which you can use as a baseline for virtual machine deployments. With Web Sites, you cannot install any additional exe's - you don't get any access to the machine running your cod

Are Windows-GUI calls (creating visible windows, etc.) allowed in a Windows-Service?
GUI elements from a Windows Service are shown on Session 0. On Windows XP & 2003, users were allowed to log in to Session 0 and interact normally with the windows created by a service, but Microsoft put a knife in the heart of interactive services in Vista (and beyond) by isolating Session 0. So, to answer your specific questions: Is a process running in the context of a Service (the Service itself or any process it starts) "allowed" to make Windows API calls that display a visible GUI? Will most Windows API calls (e.g. creating and showing a window, using Shell_NotifyIcon, etc.) behave the same in the invisible session of the service? Yes, GUI calls are allowed and should succeed as normal. The only notable exceptions that I know of are those related to tray icons b

Windows. How to add PermGen space?
It is more of a Java runtime (JVM) setting than a Windows one. You configure it by adding the below parameters (example only) to your Java command line. -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m For example, if you were doing java -jar someapp.jar, you might have to do java -jar someapp.jar -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m. A common practice is to define the -X parameters in an environment variable called JAVA_OPTS and using it in the command lines. On unix, export JAVA_OPTS="-XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m" java $JAVA_OPTS -jar someapp.jar On Windows, you can define a Local / System variable similarly. java %JAVA_OPTS% -jar someapp.jar

Moving or designating thread stack space in windows
There is a remarkable lack of information on this on MSDN, but given what I've heard Mark Russinovich describe when talking about windows memory internals I wouldn't worry about it unless I started to see a noticeable slowdown. In the scheme of things even cross node memory accesses are still faster than say... swapping to disk. More importantly because the physical mapping of memory to active pages has no relationship with the memory space on windows (a purely virtual memory space), the kernel will likely remap the stack pages for each thread based on affinity. I don't really think this is going to affect you, if it would there would already be an exposed solution because the SQL Server team would have run into it a long time ago.

How to create Windows Phone 8 app package for windows store using VS Express 2012 for windows phone?
If I understand correctly, you're hoping to publish a Windows Phone 8 app to the Windows Store (on Windows 8)? Publishing to each store (phone/Windows) is a separate process, requiring different projects, and as you've seen, different versions of Visual Studio Express 2012. There's an helpful Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 App Development Dev Center for guidance on doing this, and a recent article by Doug Holland on "Sharing Code between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 Applications" that should help as well.

Windows Service performance vs. Windows Application performance
To answer the question, see Description of Performance Options in Windows: You can use the performance options to set Windows be optimized for either foreground programs or background services. The assumptions are that background services are relatively few in number and would be more efficient with more CPU time, and that program servers or interactive programs on desktop computers would be more efficient with shorter time slices to allow them to be more responsive to keyboard input and to service more threads (many thousands on Terminal Services in Application Server mode. ... The situation become more complex when you enable the Foreground Applications option. This introduces the "variable quantum" concept. In this case, background tasks receive a different quantum than th

Getting current cpu usage in c++/windows for particular process
You need to use GetProcessTimes And unfortunately, it won't give you the "CPU usage", it will give you the amount of CPU-time since the process started. So to get CPU usage, you will need to take one sample, store that, and then take another sample a known amount of time later, and then calculate the time (and if you want to know the total usage, you'll need to add the usertime and kerneltime together, of course).

How will “windows based” authentication work in MVC web application, if users access the application from outside the company intranet
Assuming your website in IIS is visible to the outside through the firewall, then yes it will be accessible from home depending on the browser, you should get a pop up asking for username and password, and the username should be typed MYDOMAINJOEBLOGGS This setup may well work fine but it depends on your needs - is your network admin happy to open this server up to the outside world There can be a quirk if using Internet explorer externally, where IE does not display a pop up box, and instead tries to authenticate with the local windows username, which may not match AD username if it is a personal PC (to get around this on the client, go to Internet Options > Security > Custom Level then scroll down to User Authentication and select 'Prompt for username and password'

Web caching in windows application causing a delay for application loading
Okay, assuming HttpRuntime.Cache is the only thing you're using from ASP.Net: HttpRuntime's class description from MSDN: Provides a set of ASP.NET run-time services for the current application. So, there's a little part of a web server living in System.web.dll and this is one main API for accessing it. The first time you make a call into System.web.dll things will have to be initialized, which takes some time (although minutes is surprising 10 - 20 seconds seems more likely). One thing you could try is initializing in a sub-thread: volatile bool isCacheReady = false; Cache cache = null; System.Threading.Thread t1 = new System.Threading.Thread(delegate() { cache = HttpRuntime.Cache; isCacheReady = true; }); t1.Start(); // periodically check if cache is available yet (

I need a Windows 8 WinRT application to communicate with a standalone application written in C
Well, the posts stating that such communication is not possible, are mostly right. There are 2 reasons, why this is prevented: Being able to communicate to an application outside the sandbox effectively breaks the sandbox. The Windows Store app is now suddenly able to do everything the desktop application can do: access file system, registry... Windows Store apps live in a sandbox for reason - to be safe for the user. The Windows Store app won't work after it is installed from the the store or from a package. It needs to have a desktop application installed and set up correctly as well. I would suggest you try to move your server part to a different machine and make it a proper server. If for some reason you really can't do that, you still have the following options available: You ca

Identify application when sharing something from charm in windows 8 store application c#
I believe that you can't, the idea is to have sandboxed applications that don't know about each other. You register them as share sources or targets and then a broker handles the interaction between them so there is never any direct contact. Looking at the available members on the objects used for the implementation I can't see anything that would provide information about where the share was made from. Provide some information about what you want to achieve.
