Installing Windows Features on remote server 2012 using powershell 3.0
Personally I would use the latter (directly call Install-WindowsFeature -ComputerName $server rather than do a separate Invoke-Command) in this case for the following reasons: You may be hard-coding the feature names now, but in the future you may want to put those in a variable. If you put them in a variable, you'll have to pass it as a parameter into the Invoke-Command's script block. This is entirely possible, but more work. By using your own loop, you can write progress messages, logging, etc. You gain nothing by using Invoke-Command in this case because you're running a single command on the remote computer (as opposed to running multiple commands with -ComputerName parameters vs. running multiple commands inside the script block).

Developing C# Winforms software using SQL Server 2012 in Visual Studio 2012 and running it on other system without installing SQL Server 2012
If you develop an application that use Sql Server 2012 as storage for your data then you need to install it in a way or another. There are numerous versions of Sql Server, like Sql Server Express and LocalDB. In every case you need the bits that supports your coding calls. This magazine article summarizes relevant infos on the various version of Sql Server I suppose that the right product for you is Sql Server LocalDB. A version of Sql Server that could be distributed easily with your application setup and doesn't require a complex installation procedure. However, if you don't foresee the need to escalate you application to a full Client-Server model and you need only a local storage for a single user, you could choose a single file database like Sql Server Compact Edition or SQLite or

Window Server 2012 & SQL Server 2012 within single VM on Windows Azure
Arun Rana, That should be possible and AFAIK there isn't any restriction for SQL Server licence to be used in Azure, however take a look at License Mobility through Software Assurance on Windows Azure. If your licence is from MSDN, then it now absolutely legal use it on Azure. If you are unsure about the licence problem and other litigation, you may spin up a VM with SQL Server 2012 pre-installed and this will solve your licence trouble (but right now only available with the combo of SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2). PS / Personal Experience : SQL Server + some server component isn't performing well for a Medium instance. Either split the server roles or consider choosing a bigger instance size like xLarge or A6.

installing a console application as a windows service in windows server 2003
Now I want to install this console app using the installutil.exe as a service. You need to convert it to a Windows Service application instead of a console application. See the Walkthrough: Creating a Windows Service on MSDN for details. The other option would be to use Windows Task Scheduler to schedule the system to run your Console Application. This can behave very similarly to a service without actually creating a service, as you can schedule the application to run on any schedule you choose.

Difference in buildable C# applications on Windows 8 vs. Windows Server 2012?
Does this mean there are Windows applications that can't be built on any release of a Windows Server OS? Yes. You can't build Windows Store apps on Windows Server operating systems, due to licensing restrictions. Can someone describe what kinds of programs can be built on Windows 8 and not Windows Server 2012, or vice-versa? Windows Store applications can't be built on Server 2012. Anything can be developed on Windows 8. You can install a virtual machine for Windows 8 on a Windows Server 2012 machine, and develop within the VM, however. This is effectively developing on Windows 8.

The listed items are provided as links to the corresponding download pages where you can fetch the necessary files. AWS Windows Server 2012 Ephemeral Drives... Why So Many?
Not a bug - but a change to the Windows 2012 AMI configuration. Previously, you could add ephemeral volumes, but it wasn't clear how many you could add. Now, to "fix" that, they've put them all there to show how many you can have, and then you remove the ones you don't want. ie - n most cases - all of them. I'm not convinced it's a particularly good change, but that's the answer I got from support.

The 32-bit version runs because the directory path for the 32-bit version appears in the PATH environment variable before the directory path for the 64-bit version. RAM usage limit for .NET applications on Windows Server 2012?

ldap_search_sW function crashing on Windows Server 2012 R2 X64?
We have solved the issue and I am posting the solution here. There was no issue in the ldap_search_sW function that we were using . Before connecting to the ADS, we used to authenticate the user Name and password provided. Then we used ldap_initW , ldap_set_optionW and ldap_simple_bind_sW to connect to the server . Then users list is read by ldap_search_sW to read the Users list. In Server 2012, if authentication part was skipped, the exe did not crash . The authentication was done as :- function AuthenticateADSUserW(ADSUserName, ADSPassword, ADSip: String;Var Fun_Obj:String): Boolean; var AuthResult : Integer; hInstance: THandle; ADSServerName, ADSUsrNam, ADSPwd, ADSPortNo, Error: Array [0..255] of char; ldapDomain, ldapUserName, ldapPassword : Wide

sqlsrv error while connecting to mssql server 2008 on windows 2003 server
Two ways to try, first to check if the Native driver has the right version - is your server really a 32bit Version and not 84bit? The other thing is, to check if the extensions are actually loaded. To check that, create a file like "phpinfo.php" and put it in you folder for .htdocs. <?php // show phpinfo file phpinfo(); ?> The easy way is to search for it in the phpinfo-Page with Ctrl+F and "extension=php_sqlsrv_53_ts_vc9.dll"

How do I install DHCP on a Windows 2012 Server core instance?
In Server Core installations a DHCP address is provided by default. If you need to edit it, use these steps: At a command prompt, type the following: netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces Make a note of the number shown in the Idx column of the output for your network adapter. If your computer has more than one network adapter, make a note of the number corresponding to the network adapter for which you wish to set a static IP address. At the command prompt, type: netsh interface ipv4 set address name="<ID>" source=static address=<StaticIP> mask=<SubnetMask> gateway=<DefaultGateway> Where: ID is the number from step 2 above. StaticIP is the static IP address that you are setting. SubnetMask is the subnet mask for the IP address. DefaultGateway is the default

log4net issue - Orchard on IIS8 Windows Server 2012
1) Check that you have the "lib" folder deployed that contains all of orchards extra resources. It should have a series of resources such as autofac, Castle Windor etc, as well as log4net. If you can't find this folder at the route of your copy of 1.7 then that is probably the issue. 2) Orchard does not use nuget packages, but instead uses this lib folder (I believe that they have custom versions of several of the packages). If you got the source code version of 1.7, then this lib should have been present when you built. Check in VS to ensure that the references to log4net are point to a location that exists.

Installing PHP 5 on Windows Server 2003 - %1 is not a valid Win32 application
Try running PHP directly from command line to see if you receive the same error. If it is, the issue may be that a dependency cannot be found. PHP has a dependency on the Visual C++ Redistributable - from http://windows.php.net/download/ : The VC9 builds require you to have the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 x86 or x64 installed. The VC11 builds require to have the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 x86 or x64 installed. if this doesn't help, run the Microsoft utility Depends.exe from http://www.dependencywalker.com/ to find out what might be the issue.

WebDAV Server Error 401.2, connection issue with Windows Authentication after pausing virtual server/domain controller
We figured out what was causing our issue although I may not be able to explain entirely why it mattered. In IIS there is a setting in the "HTTP Response Headers" under "Set Common Headers" called "Enable HTTP keep-alive". We check marked this option as true and our Windows Authentication started working again. It seemed to have something to do with the connection not staying open between requests and the application or IIS not realizing the connection was restarted during the SYNC operation.

metrics needed - maximum memory allocation by Windows-Server-2012 for a .NET-program
I had similar problems explaining to customer why its database does not run 2x faster when we added a secondary CPU and 2x more RAM. The argument that closed the discussion: I does not slow down now when 2x more users login and work on the system. I also know that for example native navision runs faster than sql version ... to some point. But where more users works on the system (30-50+). SQL over native navision wins by not slowing down. Also check Your SQL server memory settings. I try to assign myself a fixed amount of memory to SQL like for example 10GB of total 14GB. No matter how much you assign after some time if should eat everything :) Show them in task manager that it is using it :) and if something runs slow on SQL - try to check the queries and do some database optimization

What is the token format you plan to use? Will it be the SAML as-is or you plan to transform it to may be JWT? Azure ACS can give you JWT or you can use thinktecture identity server. Check this out. SAML can get bulky at times and you can have problem transporting them in an HTTP header depending on the token size. If you plan to use SAML, you can use WIF classes SecurityTokenHandlerCollection, etc. For JWT, there is a library available with a long name of "JSON Web Token Handler For the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5". How to connect to MS SQL Server database from ASP using windows authentication specifying a windows user
You've got at least 2 3 options here: Create an App Pool on your web server which runs as domain/usr and then assign your app to this app pool, and use integrated security. Your connection string will be Data Source=dbServer01;Initial Catalog=POS123;Integrated Security=SSPI; - i.e. drop the username and password - these are inherent in the AppPool's identity. or (assuming Mixed Mode security is enabled) ask your DBA's to create a new SQL User (just called usr) with the same permissions as domain/usr and then change your connection string to standard security, with User Id=usr If you enable impersonation (here and here), you can use the domain credential without changing the app pool identity. Note the point about securing cleartext passwords, and IME this typically also requires addition

Connect Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps to SQL Server
You can't directly connect to a SQL Server, because of the Metro-Apps-Sandbox concept. They only can comunicate with a server through a service. The only way around this limitation that I know of is a SQLite integration into Windows 8 Apps. In my opinion the best way (if you use Visual Studio) is the EntityFramework. It seems a bit complex at the beginning, but the ORM really helps while developing (less mistakes through intellisens, more security against injections). Then you wrap it up into a WCF Data Service and you are ready to use any SQL-Database in your application. The Entity Framework enables developers to work with data in the form of domain-specific objects and properties, such as customers and customer addresses, without having to concern themselves with the underlying dat

When I upgraded to SQL 2012, I first removed SQL 2008 completely in Programs and features and then installed SQL 2012. This was fine and I had no problems.
