Tomcat not starting after applying last redhat kernel patch
I had the same issue on Centos 32bit using this kernel, as well as the most recent one kernel-firmware-2.6.32-358.14.1.el6. http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6529 suggests using sysctl vm.unmap_area_factor=1 to influence how memory is allocated. However, it didn't do the trick for me. I'll migrate to a 64 bit installation now.

Apply patch as part of a build step in maven
I don't think you can do stream redirection from the exec plugin but you can pass patch the -i option to specify an input file instead of having patch read from stdin. From patch manpage -i patchfile or --input=patchfile Read the patch from patchfile. If patchfile is -, read from standard input, the default.

How to apply an existing patch to your eclipse ide
A feature patch is a special kind of feature that specifies the bundles to update in an existing feature. In my example my feature patch is updating 2 bundles in the org.eclipse.rcp feature. The ID of the feature patch itself identifies the patch (so has to be unique), but is not really related to what is being patched. What you have is a source code patch. To create a feature patch, you would need to check out the appropriate source code for the bundle you care about (in this case SWT), apply the patch and make sure it works. Then you can use that plus the feature patch to generate an update site (use File>Export...>Plug-in Development>Deployable Features) that can be used to install it into an existing system. To get the code, here is an example of How To Contribute to Pla

Applying a git patch from a previous commit to a later commit
As TheCodeArtist points out, if you have a patch file, you can apply it by simply using git apply <patch>: git checkout master git apply <patch> According to the official Linux Kernel Git documentation for git apply: NAME git-apply - Apply a patch to files and/or to the index DESCRIPTION Reads the supplied diff output (i.e. "a patch") and applies it to files. This command applies the patch but does not create a commit. Use git-am(1) to create commits from patches generated by git-format-patch(1) and/or received by email.

Android / Eclipse trouble with applying themes
It's because you're putting it in res/values/styles.xml file, which means it's being applied to an app for every API version, but versions up to 10 don't support Holo themes. So, this is how your files should look like: res/values/styles.xml <resources> <!-- Base application theme, dependent on API level. This theme is replaced by AppBaseTheme from res/values-vXX/styles.xml on newer devices. --> <style name="AppBaseTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Black"> <!-- Theme customizations available in newer API levels can go in res/values-vXX/styles.xml, while customizations related to backward-compatibility can go here. --> </style> <!-- Application theme. --> <style name="AppTheme" parent="AppBaseTheme">

Image with Centered Text (part of the image) in 9 patch?
Basically what I discovered is that although possible, there are better solutions (the one mentioned above and described in more detail below) I ended up going with the solution mentioned in the comment above. Creating a nine patch of the background/gradient and then floating the icon on the left and putting text as a property of the button itself. Works well enough! As noted below by the commenter, this actually is possible as long as you don't have broken lines on the right or bottom of the 9patch... So If you took my above image and just removed the two lines on the bottom right side and the right bottom, it works like a charm (I'm still going to go with the other option however)

why git format-patch generates a patch older than the timestamps of reveision range
A range of commits can contain commits that are older than the first commit due to rebasing. A range of commits created using <rev1>..<rev2> is defined as the commits that are reachable from <rev2> but excluding those that are reachable from <rev1>. "Reachable" means that a commit can be navigated to using the parent reference that each commit has embedded. So, strictly speaking, a range has nothing to do with dates. See the Git revisions man page for more details. During a rebase, the changes made in commits are used to create "copies" of those commits. Those "copies" will have the same author and date as the original commits. Let's say someone develops something for a long time on a local feature branch, then rebases that feature branch on master and pushes. Then the

C# Auto-Patch to Patch all Files in a Game Folder
You will need to check the current version of the product, then check a database/web server to see if a new version is available. If there is, pull the new version down, store it to the local file system. Preferably it will be some type of archive. Drop it in the root directory and extract it. You can double check the Process list to see if the game is running, and either shut it down or throw an error when they try to update, so that you don't run into any file permission errors. I know this is a very broad overview, but the question you have asked is a bit broad in scope of Stack Overflow. We don't write your entire solution for you.

Need spring maven errors explanation, after applying maven-enforcer-plugin
I have not used 'maven-enforcer-plugin' plugin. It seems that that plugin will raise an error for different version of libs in dependency. In you pom dependency, there are jar like org.springframework:spring-core has different version dependent by different jar. 3.1.4 and 3.2.3. If you didn't add that plugin, there should not any error. In the normal, we will exclude the un-necessary (or conflict) lib from dependency. for example: +-pk.training.basitMahmood:ch17_i18nSupport:0.0.1-SNAPSHOT +-org.springframework.data:spring-data-commons:1.5.1.RELEASE +-org.springframework:spring-core:3.1.4.RELEASE and +-pk.training.basitMahmood:ch17_i18nSupport:0.0.1-SNAPSHOT +-org.springframework:spring-webmvc:3.2.3.RELEASE +-org.springframework:spring-core:3.2.3.RELEASE both data com

Why is Java giving me errors that eclipse didn't?
Eclipse has implemented its own compiler called as Eclipse Compiler for Java (ECJ). It is different from the javac, the compiler that is shipped with Sun JDK. One notable difference is that the Eclipse compiler lets you run code that didn't actually properly compile. If the block of code with the error is never ran, your program will run fine. Otherwise, it will throw an exception indicating that you tried to run code that doesn't compile. You could try NetBeans if you don't want to have those problems :)

Eclipse shows annotated errors but builds successfully
CDT can be very capricious sometimes. But if your paths where wrong, the program wouldn't run properly, so your compiler knows about STL. I went into this kind of issue while importing some third-party libraries (source files), and switching the order of the includes fixed it. In your case it might be more complicated... If you can't get rid of this errors, you still could disable some specific errors and turn it into simple warnings but this would be a bit error prone and dangerous: Project > Properties > C/C++ General > Code Analysis > Use project settings > Switch the errors that are bugging you into warnings Good luck with that.

eclipse memory analyzer sees small part (363,2MB) of entire heap dump (8GB)
This is a usual behavior of MAT when collecting a heap dump of such a large heap. I frequently collect heap dumps of 8GB heaps and usually get a MAT profile showing ~1GB of live objects. The 45 minutes freeze is also expected. My explanation is that during the heap dump collection time several FullGC cycles occur which reduce the size of the actual heap dump acquired. But I have not found official explanation or reference documenting why there is such a big difference. Further, see this reference - MAT Does Not Show the Complete Heap : Symptom: When monitoring the memory usage interactively, the used heap size is much bigger than what MAT reports. During the index creation, the Memory Analyzer removes unreachable objects because the various garbage collector algorithms tend to l

"Errors occurred while updating the change sets for SVNStatusSubscriber" in Eclipse
If you uninstalled the SVN plugins, it would not be possible to get those errors. You should be able to go to the Team > Synchronize view and remove any SVN related synchronizations. Finally, whether you want to mainly use TortoiseSVN or not, you should still have Subclipse installed in Eclipse. Without a SVN plugin installed, Eclipse will do bad things to your working copy. With Subclipse installed, Eclipse knows to leave the .svn folder alone. If you are using TortoiseSVN 1.8.x, then be sure to install Subclipse 1.10.x so that you have the right version with Subversion 1.8 support included.

Android Eclipse - moving project caused all R reference errors
Check if you are importing android.R instead of your generated R class. From Using Eclipse: Note: Eclipse sometimes likes to add an import android.R statement at the top of your files that use resources, especially when you ask eclipse to sort or otherwise manage imports. This will cause your make to break. Look out for these erroneous import statements and delete them. In the other hand, check if you have any errors in a xml file (but it shouldn´t allow you to generate the R.java file)
