JQuery AJAX request to Sinatra app blocked by CORS
I have found the answer to my problem. Initially, I was adding the header information to the Passenger web server via my sites-available/defaults file, and the Sinatra web service routes. Having set the CORS response headers in both places caused my response headers to have duplicate header information about the allowed origin, methods, etc. Once I removed the headers from the web server, and left them on the web service routes, my requests went through.

Firefox blocked the ads
Add an exception in your ad blocker. While on your page, click on the icon of your ad-blocking extension (there should be one somewhere), and add your domain to the whitelist (ex add "librax.net*" to the whitelist), or click a button like "Don't block ads on this page". This would depend of the firefox addon you use.

Firefox Dev Tools - Blocked Content
Firefox actually has documentation about mixed content blocking. Firefox will display information in the Web Console of the DevTools. Chrome does the same and displays messages in the Console of the DevTools. Try playing a video from a https://youtube.com/ page, for example ;)

Firefox WebFont 403 Despite S3 CORS Rules
If you are restricting access to specific HTTP referrers in your bucket policy, add your bucket url also in referer list. For example: "Condition": { "StringLike": { "aws:Referer": [ "http://my_bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/*", "https://my_bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/*", "http://www.example.com/*", "https://www.example.com/*", ] } } Check the response headers in Firefox. Turns out that referer for font is your CSS file, which is hosted on s3 bucket, not your domain.

Why am I suddenly getting a "Blocked loading mixed active content" issue in Firefox?
I found this blog post which cleared up a few things. To quote the most relevant bit: Mixed Active Content is now blocked by default in Firefox 23! What is Mixed Content? When a user visits a page served over HTTP, their connection is open for eavesdropping and man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. When a user visits a page served over HTTPS, their connection with the web server is authenticated and encrypted with SSL and hence safeguarded from eavesdroppers and MITM attacks. However, if an HTTPS page includes HTTP content, the HTTP portion can be read or modified by attackers, even though the main page is served over HTTPS. When an HTTPS page has HTTP content, we call that content “mixed”. The webpage that the user is visiting is only partially encrypted, since some of th

Firefox 23 and IE10 no longer playing nice with my XMLHttpRequest, I have CORS in php
Firefox 23+ will block what they call "active mixed content". That is: Content hosted at a non-secure (http) location that is requested from a secure webpage (https). "Active" in this context essentially means everything that is not a media type (not an image, audio or video resource). This is to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks that would use non-secure sub-requests to get into secure pages. For more information see the Mixed Content article on MDN. As the request is blocked before even hitting the network, there won't be any response headers/data. Not sure about IE10, but their documentation seems to indicate they block such requests for the same reasons, saying: Cross-domain, cross-port, and mixed protocol requests are not allowed.

How to change the HTTP header / problems with @fontface in firefox CORS
It could be your regular expression in FilesMatch. The example that you cite has its font css files with extension .font.css, which is what the regex is looking for. Based on your current .htaccess file, ss-social-circle.css isn't matching the expression and thus isn't getting the header. Try changing the <FilesMatch ...> line to this: <FilesMatch ".(ttf|ttc|otf|eot|woff|css)$"> and see if it starts working. Good luck!

Why won't Firefox trace to flashlog.txt in Ubuntu?
I notice you didn't mention compiling with the -debug flag. Here're the steps I take: Make sure you're using the debug version of the player (hit flashplayerversion.com to check). This is getting trickier in-browser, especially in 64-bit Linux. Firefox is probably easier than Chrome these days. You can also try the debug content projector (aka standalone player) located here. Have a ~/mm.cfg file with TraceOutputFileEnable=1. Here's mine: > cat ~/mm.cfg ErrorReportingEnable=1 TraceOutputFileEnable=1 Use the trace method somewhere you know it will be executed: > cat Main.as package { import flash.display.Sprite; public class Main extends Sprite { public function Main() { trace("Hello flashlog.txt"); } } } Compile the SWF with the -debug option: m

Ubuntu: How to upgrade ubuntu 11 to ubuntu 13?
Ubuntu 11.04 is apparently not "supported" anymore... it was not a LTS (Long Term Support) release (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/10/ubuntu-11-04-support-ends-today) There seems to be an option of "updating" things on "old-releases" (but they are not actively maintained/updated anymore), by editing your source repositories location: http://askubuntu.com/questions/101479/are-existing-updates-available-after-end-of-support. However, if you want to update to a 2013 version, probably the best you can do is to backup your data and configurations and install a new version from scratch. Pay attention to the fact that non-LTS versions stop being supported after around 2 years.

What platform (server installed on ubuntu vs ubuntu server) to prefer for website development?
There seems to be a lot of confusion in your post. Based on your lack of experience with GNU/Linux, I would suggest you use desktop Ubuntu. The difference between Ubuntu server and Ubuntu desktop is that the server edition is targetted to experienced users, so you get a very minimal distribution. No GUI, nothing preinstalled except the bare minimum. As for your comment about Apache/Glassfish, the two aren't comparable. Apache is the name of the open source community which looks after a lot of products. Very often people call Apache's httpd just "apache", which is a web server. Glassfish is a Java EE application server (Oracle's reference implementation) so probably a good place to start with Java EE.

Why is JavaScript slower in a FireFox add-on than in a webpage loaded in FireFox?
There are two preferences (accessible from the about:config page) that control the javascript optimizations: javascript.options.methodjit.chrome for privileged code (extensions) and javascript.options.methodjit.content for untrusted code (web pages). Some versions of Firefox ship with the former disabled by default. Check javascript.options.methodjit.chrome to see if it's set to true.

Font looks really worse in Firefox: why and how I can write a hack for Firefox?
When I test 13px Arial, it looks slighty lighter in Chrome than in Firefox, rather than the other way around as in your case. Stay tuned to variation across browser versions, platforms, and settings, as regards to font rendering. Usual browser detection techniques could be used in JavaScript to check whether the browser claims to be Firefox and modify CSS code accordingly. But this would be a shot in the dark, partly due to the variation mentioned, partly because there is really nothing you can do to fix the assumed problem. Bolding tends to change the overall appearance of text, not just slighly thicken strokes, and bolding often reduces readability. Ways to avoid creating problems like this: Do not set font size to something as small as 13px. Especially for small font sizes, use black

SelectorImpl is BLOCKED
If you can elaborate more on what your Netty is doing it could be helpful. Regardless - please make sure you are closing the channels. Notice from the Channel javadoc: It is important to call close() or close(ChannelPromise) to release all resources once you are done with the Channel. This ensures all resources are released in a proper way, i.e. filehandles If you are closing the channels, then the problem may be with the logic it self - running into infinite loops or similar - which may be able to explain the high CPU.

PHP exec is blocked by ISP
Is there an alternative way to do this ? There also are system and shell_exec, but I'd assume this to be disabled for the same reasons. Like pointed out in the comments, you could also just provide your server's static IP instead of having the script determine it. However, chances are sockets are disabled as well, so don't put your hopes too high. Do all Isp's block this ? Most Hosting Providers do. Obviously a hosting service doesn't want you to run arbitrary commands on the shell that could potentially reconfigure the machine. What can I do? Get paid hosting that allows you to exec. A VPS or a dedicated server comes to mind.

In my trials, I did not find any issue with your code. However, if you really have a scenario in which the blur and the click of the button seem to conflict, you could have a variable that is set when the validity is being triggered and reset once the validation is completed. Basically, in your linking function on the directive, have the following: //Keeps track of the validation being active var validationInProgress = false; function dovalidation () { validationInProgress = true; //Validation code goes here if (EMAIL_REGX.test(elm.val())) { ctrl.$setValidity('emails', true); } else { ctrl.$setValidity('emails', false); } //Set this after validations are over //Should be the last statement in this function validationInProgress = fals

Is there a way to find out, whether a thread is blocked?
Use Boost Asio. It has its own thread pool management and scheduling framework. The basic idea is to push tasks to the io_service object using the post() method, and call run() from as many threads as many CPU cores you have. You should create a work object while the calculation is running to avoid the threads from exiting if they don't have enough jobs. The important thing about Asio is never to use any blocking calls. For I/O calls, use the asynchronous calls of Asio's own I/O objects. For synchronization, use strand objects instead of mutexes. If you post functions to the io service that is wrapped in a strand, then it ensures that at any time at most one task runs that belongs to a certain strand. If there is a conflict, the task remains in Asio's event queue instead of blocking a wor

Java concurrency - is monitor blocked?
Is there a way to tell from one thread (say the one which locks a monitor object) if another thread is block/waiting on same monitor? No, not from the object itself. You can, as @Evgeniy mentioned, use other of the java.util.concurrent.locks.* classes which allow you to view the queued members, but not from a synchronized (lock) type of object monitor. I would like the collector to know that when he finishes collecting, a possible data update is pending which yield the collected data might already be invalid. How about having a BlockingQueue of updates so the collector could check the queue and see if it is non-empty. The updater thread(s) would just be adding Update information to the BlockingQueue and the collector would dequeue the updates and make the adjustments. It then

Email sent from VPS going into spam folder or being blocked
One reason why your messages may be going to the SPAM folder is the lack of a positive reputation. Look at it from Gmail's perspective... about 80% of new sources of email are spewing malicious messages. ReturnPath, a email reputation company shows your IP as not having sent very much mail. https://senderscore.org/lookup.php?lookup= By sending good mail to people who want to receive your messages your mail will begin to more often land in the inbox. JQuery Wrap Does not Effect because Blocked by CSS
To do what you're after I think you just need to remove .slide-slide from your jQuery() as looking through your url I don't see that element. To do it a slightly different way we can assume that because the links are being put on via jQuery they don't need to be indexed (SEO). So you could just try binding a click to the .slide-content-x, .slide-slide or parent element and change the window location? Using: http://avonmore.ac.nz/? $( '#orbit-inside' ).on( 'click', '.slide-content', function() { var url = 'http://avonmore.ac.nz/'; if ( $( this ).hasClass( '.slide-content-1700' ) ) { url += '/courses/hairdressing/'; } if ( $( this ).hasClass( '.slide-content-1702' ) ) { url += '/courses/freight-warehousing/'; } if ( url != 'http://avonmore.ac.nz/
