Location of Blackberry code-signing "previous Blackberry Java Development installation directory" in Import Existing Keys (Eclipse BB plugin)
When you originally install code signing keys from RIM, and use them, the toolset will generate three files: sigtool.csk sigtool.db sigtool.set (maybe not needed?) These are the files that Eclipse wants. So, you could just use Windows explorer (or Mac equivalent if on OS X) to search for the folder that has those files. Depending on your situation, it could be in different places. It could be in the user's .eclipse directory: C:Usersmyname.eclipse Or, it could be under the BlackBerry JDE / Eclipse plugin installation directory. For example, C:Eclipseplugins et.rim.ejde.componentpack5.0.0_5.0.0.36componentsin For completeness, I'll dig up a couple old computers, and see where they have the code signing files installed, but for your purposes, doing a filesearch for *.csk is p

UI Issues in converted android Apps to BlackBerry platform
1.) That's a tricky point. If the layout-small is used, I guess you are using the 720x720 simulator, which is Q10 resolution (the Z10 will use layout-large, according to http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Android-Runtime-Development/Android-drawable-folder-layout-folder-for-BB-Z10-and-Q10/m-p/2169275#M3862). Your layout is probably not adapted for a square screen. I'll guess there's no magical answer: you'll have to adapt it. Maybe try it with a Z10 resolution (see point 2) first, to check that it solves your issue. 2.) With the latest simulator, you can choose between a 1280x768 (Z10) or 720x720 (Q10) screen. If the layout is displaying fine on both screen sizes on the emulator, it will display fine on real devices. To change between Z10 and Q10 resolution, you have a number to choos

How to detect programmatically when other apps are closed / force stopped
I don't believe it's possible to detect when an app is force stopped. Even the app being stopped doesn't get that information. You can detect if an app is currently closed by using the BroadcastReceiver. Here's a pretty decent tutorial on using that: http://saigeethamn.blogspot.com/2009/10/android-developer-tutorial-part-11.html

Is it necessary to sign every blackberry application even if i have to just test it on blackberry real device?
If you are using signed API in your code, then you need to sign your application, before installing it on an actual device. Unsigned app that uses signed API will work only on simulator, but won't work on an actual device. Apply for signing keys here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/codesigning You will receive an email with attached signing keys. Follow the instructions in the received email to install these keys and use them to sign your application.

Blackberry plugin for eclipse compatible with Blackberry 10
I'm not sure that the above is clear, so thought I would restate the position as I understand it: Android applications, repackaged to run on BlackBerry devices, can be used on BB10 and PlayBook devices only. These can not be run on BBOS devices, i.e. BB 5/6/7. The later releases of BB10, specifically 10.2+, supports Android applications developed using Jelly Bean 4.2.2. PlayBook and previous levels of BB10, support Gingerbread 2.3.3. So for example, my Z10, which is running BB10.1, would only be able to load repackaged Android applications developed using Gingerbread. My Curve, running OS 7.0, can't run any Android applications.

BlackBerry Java Media Unsupported
Update: Regarding the problem with the video playing on a 9790 and not a 9780, those are different devices. The 9790 came out about a year after the 9780, and apparently RIM added more capability. From 9780 specs: Video player DivX/WMV/XviD/3gp From 9790 specs: DivX/XviD/MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player So, that explains why you can't get that video to play on the 9780. If playing this video is fundamental to your app, you might change the settings in BlackBerry App World to list it as incompatible with 9780s. If this is only one of many features of your app, you might at least catch the media exception and inform the user gracefully that their device can't play the video requested, so they don't think it's your app's fault. Original Answer: MP4 actually contains

Cannot run simple java code from real BlackBerry device
Well the Q10 is blackberry os10, while eclipse/java is for blackberry 7 and lower. From what I understand OS10 was completely reworked, which means that project won't be compatible. I think they switched to c++. The reason it works in the simulator is its an os7 (or lower) simulator.

How can i call Java web service method in blackberry web works/HTML5 app?
Theres a pretty good example on the blackberry forums here: Blackberry Forum You just need to create a new XMLHttpRequest, oopen it, and send the request. Also create a callback function to handle the result. Example below: var xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); function CallWebService(){ xmlHttp.open('GET', 'http://YOURWEBSERVICEURLHERE', true); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = callbackFunction; xmlHttp.send(); } function callbackFunction(){ if (xmlHttp.readyState != 4) return; var result = xmlHttp.responseText; alert(result); }

HTTP Connection thread doesn't update result inside TimerTask - BlackBerry Java
In the first place I'd advise you not to extend Thread unless you need to override custom threading behavior (that is often not the case and it would be too scary a thing to do). Instead, the recommended approach is to implement a Runnable and pass it to the Thread constructor. In JavaSE they have introduced a new Executors framework that gets rid of instantiating threads the old way. With timers it's similar but here you implement a TimerTask which is pretty much a Runnable (inherits from it), and then you schedule it. Another issue with your code is that it starts a thread from within a the constructor, which is a dangerous thing to do, because every new instance created will spawn a new thread (the one asociated with the Timer). This is considered an antipattern. Never do this, and i

In Blackberry 10 Cascades is there a way to change the shape of an image or imageButton in blackberry cascades using an image mask or alpha channel?
As far as I know there's no such limitations in the SDK. The ImageButton class provides methods for setting and resetting its images so it will be looking like the actual images you supply for it. There's a good example of this right in the official ImageButton documentation.

Retrieving the state of Google Chrome preferences, like "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed"?
You cannot read the state of Google Chrome preferences. Google does not provide an API for Chrome, "system" settings, and Google blocks general reads to the file system (You can read sandboxed files only). isAllowedIncognitoAccess()Doc just reports wether the extension is allowed in "Incognito mode", AKA "porn mode". It has nothing to do with whether background apps run. Currently, Chrome's high-level settings are stored in a JSON file named Local State in the User Data folder1. If you can find a way to read this file, the "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" setting is stored in the background_mode property. 1 The User Data folder defaults to: Windows XP: %AppData%..Local SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeUser Data Windows Vista/7/8: %Loca

When you are done with the cursor, you need to call Cursor.close(). Leaving it not closed leads to memory leaks. Is java frame completely disposed after being closed?
EXIT_ON_CLOSE will exit the application. You will have to manually clear the JFrame and (any invoked threads made by the user). using the frame.dispose(); Attach a window closed listener to the JFrame When triggered use the dispose method followed clearing swing elements and (killing threads that the user invokes). This will keep all the other windows open.

UnsupportedOperationException in Java when checking whether the resultSet is Closed or not
Apparently, the driver does not implement the method and throws java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException. Depending on the vendor (Oracle, IBM, Derby, ...), it can implement certain functionality of JDBC. You could only close the connection. This frees all resources.

Why am I getting java.sql.SQLException: Operation not allowed after ResultSet closed
All execution methods in the Statement interface implicitly close a statment's current ResultSet. See docs So you need to store resultSet data in a temporary array and loop through it. Or try to use another statement for executeUpdate. Try something like this: ArrayList<String> tmp = new ArrayList<String>(); while(resultsRS.next()){ tmp.add(resultsRS.getString(1)); } for (String s: tmp) { statement.executeUpdate("UPDATE suppliers SET status = status + 5 WHERE snum = "+"""+s+"""); rowCount++; }

How do I detect when a serial port has been closed by the device in java?

java.io.IOException: Attempted read from closed stream
What does EntityUtils.toString(postResponse.getEntity()) do with the response entity? I would suspect, that it is consuming the entity's content stream. The HttpClient javadoc states, that only entities, which are repeatable can be consumed more than once. Therefore if the entity is not repeatable you cannot feed the content stream to the mapper again. To avoid this you should only let the mapper consume the stream - if logging of content is required, log the parsed Response object.

The two usual motivations for dual-licensing are business models and license compatibility. How to avoid java.io.IOException: Attempted read on closed stream
Because you are calling releaseConnection() in your finally block, the input stream will no longer be available. If you do not expect the content to be large, you could read the data from the input stream into a buffer and return the buffer instead of the input stream. Otherwise, you will need to change your code to allow the called to process the data from the input stream before releasing the connection.

Rake routes for Java web apps?
Is there an ant script or some other script anywhere that contains details to how the projects are pulled together and built/packaged into the war? Ultimately everything is constructed into a base directory containing files, directories and a /WEB-INF directory. /WEB-INF is protected and it's contents are only accessible via URI's via the web.xml. Where everything outside of the /WEB-INF in the root directory is accessible via URI's (relative to the root directory) or URL's. I'm not completely confident in what is all entitled with a rake route, but I believe your sinking feeling is correct - what you see in the web.xml is what you have to work with in java web-apps. The <servlet-class> tag maps the package.diectory.to.JavaClass to a given <servlet-name> and else where in th

Difference between Kivy and Java for android apps
This is a rather subjective question. 1) Which one its easier and faster to develop android apps? I think there's a strong argument for kivy, but this doesn't have an objective answer. 2) Does Kivy has limitations to access certain parts of android (like not fully integrated with its api)? The kivy project includes pyjnius, a tool for accessing java classes through python, and in principle I think this should give arbitrary (edit: on reflection, not arbitrary, but probably not limited in immediately important ways) access to the java apis. In practice, prebuilt python wrappers are a work in progress, though rapidly improving. The android python library already gives easy access to many things (including but not limited to intents, vibration, accelerometer etc.). Even where the

Identifying Java desktop client dependencies for web apps
No, there is no easy way to do this. It would be easy if all your web-apps would use a <applet> html tag or a <object> html tag, then you could simply match every html source. This you can do anyway to find some of the web-apps that use java, at least on the start page of the app. But since it is also possible to load java applets using javascript and an automatism cannot navigate through an app like a user, there is no easy way to do this. If you have control over the clients (e.g. company internal), you might turn off java on a few clients and let the users do the checking (e.g. they will call if something does not work). Maybe you even have key users for application tests.

Yeah, Xamarin's Mono virtual machine is more impressive than Google's Dalvik used in Android. I have tested it with HTC Flyer and Acer Iconia Tab tablets to benchmark the C# port of Android through Mono against Java Dalvik, with the C# implementation of Android well and truly trouncing the Java-based Dalvik.
