Error Building Project in Android Studio "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at ____ with value '@drawable/')
Alright, so after fussing with the rebuild for hours trying different methods (renaming particular files [i.e. those with the problems], rebuilding the app after renaming folders inside the build folder, etc) I finally decided that I would go to the source of the problem and see if it worked like other IDE's. Indeed it did, this is how I performed the fix: Find the location of the problem - For me, all four of the errors I had were inside the 'build' folder of the project. Close any open instances of the project While the project is closed, rename this folder from windows explorer (or other if youre using a different OS) (i.e. If the folders name is "build", rename it to "build.old") Open the project once more Go to Build > Rebuild Project You should not have any issues doing this, lik

Android resource not found exception. Specify a resource by string
You normally don't use a string, you access them by id. R.raw.camaro_obj will be an int and you can get an input stream to it by calling getResources().openRawResources(R.raw.camaro_obj); Edit: I did some googling, this http://androidbook.blogspot.com/2009/08/referring-to-android-resources-using.html may help

"Error: No resource found that matches the given name" HoloEverywhere
I think you are getting this because of your android dependency version , i was getting the same error when a newly created api level 14 project has been turned to api level 10 or 8 from project properties .As this api level doesn't have holo theme and style it gives me error in all style xml files and menu files .I think this might be the case with yours too .

Why it says there's error "No resource found that matches" even though it exists?
Thats b'coz you are using styles.xml instead of style.xml. Try changing referance as follows... <TextView style="@styles/behindMenuItemTitle" android:text="Right" /> in same way with all other referances of styles.xml file...

no resource found that matches the given name at hint = @string/edit_message
If you are currently using this: android:hint = "@string/edit_message", just do like that: android:hint = "edit_message". This is called hardcoded string. Its working, but its not recommended that you make strings this way. The other way is to go to resources, then to strings folder, and there should be one .xml, with strings. To make a new string, just copy the last one, change the name, and the content between >...<, where your string should be. To use that string you get it by its name. So if you name it "myStr", to use it in editText, you need to say: android:hint="@string/myStr" and you will get the content of the string. Hope this helps. Mark as answer if it does. Good luck.

Can't run Android Demo - No Resource Identifier Found
error: No resource identifier found for attribute 'parentActivityName' in package 'android' This usually means that your build target (e.g., Project > Properties > Android in Eclipse) is set too low. Importing HoloEverywhere into Eclipse: Error: No resource found that matches the given name
I finally found out what was causing the problem: Android library projects have to be added via the Android tab in the Project settings, not via the Java Build path. So, for adding the ActionbarSherlock dependency you have to open the settings of the HoloEverywhere project, choose the "Android" tab, click add and choose the ActionBarSherlock project. I hope this helps future readers.

(3) At th bottom of the right pane click Add (4) Select the library project android-support-v7-appcompat and click OK. Click OK to close the properties window. Unable to render the XML attributes when referencing @dimen resource file in Android Studio
I hope this helps someone. Today I faced the same issue as reported above. I am using windows 8.1, 64bit, jdk 1.8.0, android studio 1.2 Beta 3. What I did was; go to dimens.xml file, (location is: res/values/dimens.xml) and open it up. create any arbitrary change, and save the change. In my case, I added a duplicate value with a different name i.e. 16dp Going back to the layout preview, the error notification simply disappears. You may now go back to dimes.xml and undo the arbitrary changes, to restore the original state of the file if you wish to. I don't have any technical reasons why this fixes it, but sure it worked for me. I guess it is a bug or something.

'No resource identifier found for attribute' error even after using namespace http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto
Found the problem. I had defined these attributes in the attrs.xml in the following format <declare-styleable name="HorizontalPager"> <attr name="ignore_vertical_scroll" format="boolean" /> <attr name="page_width_proportion" format="integer" /> </declare-styleable> <declare-styleable name="HorizontalPager"> <attr name="off_screen_page_limit" format="integer" /> </declare-styleable> Both the styles had the same name and now during compilation the second attribute definition was overriding the first attribute definition because of which aapt was not able to find the said attributes. Combining these two definitions into a single one fixed the problem.

Android Studio Gradle Configuration with name 'default' not found
Everything looks fine at first blush, but some poking around on here found an answer that could be helpful: http://stackoverflow.com/a/16905808/7944 Even the original answer writer doesn't sound super confident, but it's worth following up on. Also, you didn't say anything about your directory structure and so I'm assuming it's boring default stuff, but can't know for sure.

Android Studio - IntelliJ No JDK found even though its installed and in path
Have you tried manually adding the JDK to the default project configuration? You can do this by choosing File > Other Settings > Default Project Structure from the menu. The go under the SDKs heading and add the JDK by clicking the green + symbol and choosing JDK, the browse to your JDK folder. You can also add Android platforms here if needed. Also, I'm not sure about this, but on my x64 system I use both a 64-bit and a 32-bit JDK. Android Studio/IntellJ uses the 64-bit (in Program Files) version to run, but my build uses the 32-bit JDK (in Program Files (x86)). Not sure if this is required, but it might be worth a shot if you are still having trouble getting it to work.

After adding library to android project, the XML tag is still "unallowed in Android resource files"
Figured it out. AndroidStudio is still in it's "ghetto" stage so if you try to add a library dependency in typical IntelliJ fashion you get a warning telling you that whatever you do in the project/module dialog (which shows up when you select it) actually has no effect on your build and that you must edit build.gradle manually. In the case of Androidplot 0.5.2 heres what you do: Add androidplot-core-0.5.2.jar into your /libs dir In the dependencies section of build. gradle add: compile files('libs/androidplot-core-0.5.2.jar') Once you've done this you should be OK. Where do I find android.support.v7.mediarouter.R$attr?
You can't just include the jars. You need to add the android.support.v7.mediarouter project as a Android Library dependency. That way, the resources from the project will get merged into your own. Inside the mediarouter folder run android update lib-project -p . and then you can add it as a dependency.

Android Studio: Android Manifest doesn't exists or has incorrect root tag
I ran into a similar problem. Looks like my .../src directory for whatever reason moved under my .../lib directory. I moved it out of the /lib directory. Now both /lib and /src are at the same level. After a couple of clean rebuilds and restarts of Android studio everything is back to normal. My emulator started up fine. You might want to check your directory structure. Compare the directory structure with a working project. You might be able to see the difference.

How do I add the library android-support-v7 in IntelliJ IDEA (Not Android Studio/Gradle)?
You just need to add "@string/abc_action_mode_done" in your appcompat/res/values/strings.Do not "set mediarouter as a dependency for appcompat library".(In my case,"@string/abc_action_mode_done" already exists in the appcompat/res/values/strings.I don't know why you miss it.) "add depenency appcompat to mediarouter" is necessary.

Automatically versioning Android project from git describe with Android Studio/Gradle
After some further reading and several false starts, I ended up with this, added to the bottom of build.gradle in the project directory (that is, MyAppProject/MyApp/build.gradle, not MyAppProject/build.gradle -- confusing, I know, but the former directory is projectDir in Gradle so that's how I refer to it here). It depends on no external utilities other than Git, which is assumed to be in the path, so it should work on any OS (even though I used forward slashes in the paths, they get converted to backslashes on Windows). It could probably stand to be improved, I'm sure, as my understanding of Gradle is pretty rudimentary and my Groovy may not be very idiomatic (though that in particular is less of a concern). I have a feeling that my approach is suboptimal because it involves generatin
