Android: Can't access cursor data inside ContentProvider using CursorLoader
Because the cursor row values are null, The Cursor values aren't null(or at least this isn't the reason for the error) it's the cur reference that is null. When you first initialize the adapter you do it with a null Cursor(at this point cur is null). When your loader does its job and loads the data you call swapCursor() and the adapter will start building rows, unfortunately your cur reference will continue to be null as it doesn't get magically updated with the new Cursor reference. By the way, i forgot to say, if in the Activity instead using MarcaCursorAdapter i just use SimpleCursorAdapter (losing the customization of my method getView) the list loads without problems and showing the data, This is happening because of your implementation of the getView() method. First

Need a ContentProvider to access SharedPreferences
Ok, I solved the problem like this. I didnt find a way to use the User inner class but access the SharedPreferences. public class UserProfileProvider extends ContentProvider implements SharedPreferences { @Override public boolean onCreate() { SharedPreferences settings = getContext().getSharedPreferences(getContext().getResources().getString(R.string.PREFS_NAME), getContext().MODE_PRIVATE); Log.d("akis", ":::userProfileProvider:::" + settings.getString(getContext().getResources().getString(R.string.USER_PREFERENCES), "default")); return false; } Of course you have to add all methods that must be overridden by implementing SharedPreferences

Android ContentProvider vs ORMLite
I do not think, you can compare with an ORM with Content Provider. ORMLite offers following features link to user and has complete separate goal when developed. But beside the things you mention, their are couple of other benefits of content provider. if you want to share date between multiple application or process. May be right now you do not have any plan to do so, but seems like you app is heavy on database, and in future if you plan to share your data with third party or your another app you have an option with content provider. Content provider is standard throughout all release of Android, that also means that your app is safe with that. I am pretty sure ORMLite is stable too. But do you really wanna take that risk, specially if that not saving your time or you do not have any

Android ContentProvider with JSON files
My goal is wanting the contents of a json file (or the file itself) from one app to be transferred to another app. To literally do this, use openFile() on the ContentProvider side and openInputStream()/openOutputStream() on the ContentResolver (client) side. However, I suspect that this is not an especially good idea. JSON is not a data storage model that will work will with multiple simultaneous accessors. IOW, when both apps try to work with the JSON at the same time, who wins and loses? Also, what happens if the app hosting the JSON file is uninstalled? Now the other app has no more access to the data.

Android: What is better, using a SQLiteCursorLoader or implementing a ContentProvider?
Obviously sharing data is the most frequent reason people put for using a content provider. There have been some bugs in sqlite and multiple users, although not absolute usually a content provider is in a single thread and can solve this issue and yes this is when your sharing data between apps. A content provider can give you a level of abstraction and possibly have less code maintenance, especially with internal database structure changes. It allows you to perform asynchronous queries with a CursorLoader, off loading your UI Activities, which is the design recommendation. In conjunction with a database helper, it makes it easier to get your table and column names correct and narrows down where you have to look and maintain code. The use of a database helper or contract between your app

I want all photos that are texted to a certain phone number to be uploaded to my server and shown on page
MMS seems to be a solution. But for automatic uploading, you'll need to design apps corresponding to those platforms (android, ios, symbian etc.) to go through the messages and pick up the attachments and upload on tumblr. As far as access is concerned, I guess you're saying that someone who knows that phone-number might be able to search it up on tumblr. Regards

Android ContentProvider with network as a data source
Haven't received any response / comments, so answering question myself. Basically, the idea in this kind of situations is to simplify the problem as much as possible. So I limited projection to only have column names, selection to consist of only column = ? AND-ed fragments, and required sortOrder to consist of column ASC or column DESC parts. In other words, you don't want to create an SQL engine but simply a ContentProvider interface for some network data.

Android CursorLoader > ContentProvider > SqliteDatabase not working
I dont see you calling setNotificatioUri on the cursor before you return it have a look at one of my query methods that I know works @Override public Cursor query(Uri uri, String[] projection, String selection, String[] selectionArgs, String sortOrder) { SQLiteQueryBuilder sqlBuilder = new SQLiteQueryBuilder(); sqlBuilder.setTables(CAL_EVENTS_TABLE); if (uriMatcher.match(uri) == 1) { sqlBuilder.setProjectionMap(mMap); } else if (uriMatcher.match(uri) == 2) { sqlBuilder.setProjectionMap(mMap); sqlBuilder.appendWhere(ID + "=?"); selectionArgs = DatabaseUtils.appendSelectionArgs(selectionArgs, new String[] { uri.getLastPathSegment() }); } if (sortOrder == null || sortOrder == "") sortOrder = START_DATE

Can other apps on Android phone access public methods
No, because your code would never compile. When you call a method from another package's class, you must import that class to do so. The entire class, and all of its dependencies, must be part of your project for you to be able to compile the code successfully. As you do not have access to the other developer's source code, you cannot import his class. And if you can import his class, then your app will be his code as a library project or something, and hence the code will ship with your app, making your question irrelevant.

access email id and phone number from facebook graph api in android
Okay, first thing's first : public static final String[] PERMISSIONS = new String[] {"email"}; String response=authenticatedFacebook.request("me"); JSONObject obj = Util.parseJson(response); useremail=obj.getString("email");` where authenticatedFacebook is Facebook object. Util will be available along with Facebook SDK. However, i think util might be depriciated, so you can always use : user.getInnerJSONObject().getString("email"); Ensure that you gave Email permission .

how can you access the audio for transmission in live phone calls in android based device
This has been asked several times before (e.g. here, here and here). Nothing has changed in respect to this, so it's still not possible for Android apps to write into the uplink (or downlink) of a voice call, and probably won't be in the future. When it comes to noise suppression for voice calls, most (if not all) OEMs have both uplink and downlink noise suppression on their phones which has been carefully tuned for each product in a controlled environment to meet all necessary acoustic requirements. Sometimes you can toggle or tweak these settings in the Settings menu or through the Phone application's UI.

UIImagePickerController needs access to photos in iOS6?
It doesn't matter which route you take to access the photos, if the user has denied access then none of the options will be permitted to access the photos. The authorisation messages may be a little misleading but the same permissions apply to both access methods.

why can't I access iPad photos library?
On iPad you need to display UIImagePickerController embedded in UIPopoverController. You can't directly display it using presentViewController: If you are displaying camera then you can use presentViewController, else you need to use a popover for displaying the image picker in iPad. Reference: UIImagePickerController So instead of: [self presentViewController:imagePicker animated:YES completion:nil]; Use: UIPopoverController *photoPop = [[UIPopoverController alloc]initWithContentViewController:imagePicker]; [photoPop presentPopoverFromRect:CGRectMake(100,100,300,300) inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionDown animated:YES]; Check these tutorials: UIImagePickerController UIImagePickerController in iPad

Android: how to override ContentProvider's ParcelFileDescriptor openFile method to send file from url as attachment via email?
You don't need a content provider if the files are in a public directory. I do it in this way : private void launchShareActivity(final List<String> exported_filenames) { Log.v(DEBUG_TAG, "launchShareActivity"); final Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE); intent.setType("*/*"); if (exported_filenames.size() == 0) { Log.i(DEBUG_TAG, "there no file to share"); return; } final ArrayList<Uri> uris = new ArrayList<Uri>(); for (final String exported_file : exported_filenames) { final File f = new File(exported_file); uris.add(Uri.fromFile(f)); } intent.putParcelableArrayListExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, uris); activity.startActivity(Intent.createChooser(intent, "Send page")); }

Using form input to access camera and immediately upload photos using web app
It's really easy to do this, simply send the file via an XHR request inside of the file input's onchange handler. <input id="myFileInput" type="file" accept="image/*;capture=camera"> var myInput = document.getElementById('myFileInput'); function sendPic() { var file = myInput.files[0]; // Send file here either by adding it to a `FormData` object // and sending that via XHR, or by simply passing the file into // the `send` method of an XHR instance. } myInput.addEventListener('change', sendPic, false);

Dual purpose of Android ContentProvider: 1. Search provider and 2. List content provider
The ContentProvider you're using is generic and can be used for a search feature. You may think at first that maybe you should write a ContentProvider that specifically works for search but: You will have to duplicate a lot of code. ContentProviders are not designed to be specific, they just abstract the access to data. Your "Search Content Provider" will be used to make queries and you already have that with the Content Provider you have. The ContentProvider doesn't need to be specific to search. On the other hand, your Adpater should be specific.

How can I upload multiple photos in one post on Google+ from G+ Android SDK?
It should work with addStream() method, unfortunately... it doesn't work. Indeed it makes the application crash. After a long search, I finally got it: it's not possible if using the simplified G+ SDK! (the one dedicated to Android). There is a second one, included in the Google API family that you can find there: http://code.google.com/p/google-api-java-client/wiki/APIs#Google+_API This one will let you build more advanced post, included, several pic one. Unfortunately the second SDK is much more low level, not dedicated to Android, it's a kind of Java abstraction over http request. Regards

Android: how create xml file that contains the list of albums and photos from gallery
I would suggest you to get some basic java experience as these problems are really common in the programming world and has almost nothing to do with Android. Anyway you should make a List that holds Album objects (model) and an Album object should contain a List that holds Photo objects (model). Then you can loop though the list by getting the number of photos/albums with the List.size() method. Good luck.

Specify filename in ContentProvider
You'll usually specify things like that as part of the URI that gets passed to your methods. So you'd use something like mImageCaptureUri = Uri.withAppendedPath(FileStorageContentProvider.CONTENT_URI, "myImage"); Then inside your various methods (like query(Uri uri, String[] projection, String selection, String[] selectionArgs, String sortOrder)) you can extract the filename from the URI with uri.getPath().

Can a ContentProvider know anything about the app that is querying it?
Yajin Zhou and Xuxian Jiang here say: An app can protect its interface by either setting a property named exported to false in its manifest file to ensure that the interface is only available to itself or others with the same user ID or defining custom permissions to expose them only to apps that are granted these custom permissions. You can see more details in about Securing Content Providers in An In-Depth Introduction to the Android Permission Model.
