how to display data in gridview from existing tables
Your datasource will need to be based on some query that joins the data from those three tables (can they be joined?), from there you just populate the gridview with the resulting dataset. It's hard to give any more of a detailed answer without more detail I'm afraid.

How can I handle different data types in an Entity-Attribute-Value design (e.g. single table with multiple columns or multiple tables per data type)?
This is a well known problem. The problem with the approach you mentioned is that you need to know the type of the attribute before you query for it. it's not the end of the world because you manage metadata but still... Two possiable solutions might be using a varchar2 datatype to represent all data types in a known format. Numbers and chars are no problem, date values can be written in a predefined manner (it's like implementing to_String() in any OO design). use the ANYDATA data type. i personally played around with it but decided not to use it.

SQL get data from multiple tables
Frankly, the best way is probably to pull the elements into different variables. Anyway, here's an alternative if you want to do it all at once: SELECT a.date, a.title, 'ARTICLE' category FROM articles a WHERE date > :date UNION ALL SELECT date, title, 'COLUMN' category FROM columns WHERE date > :date UNION ALL SELECT date, title, 'REPORT' category FROM reports WHERE date > :date Something like that, anyway. The idea is that you can include a flag referencing the source table in each sub-select statement.

selecting data from multiple tables
Very loosely speaking, the results of a query need to (a) have the same straucture, (b) be somehow related. The resultset you appear to be trying to build has neither property (at the very least, all pieces of your querys should return the same number of rows)It appears that you need to gain better understanding of sql, besides explaining a little better what you need to do downstream.

Best way to cycle through pages of data in multiple tables?
You can use event delegation to set only a few event handlers: var footers = document.getElementsByTagName('tfoot'); for(var i=0; i<footers.length; i++) { footers[i].onclick = function(e) { console.log(e.target); // the clicked element within the footer } } This will create a single click handler for each table footer, and you can detect which button was clicked by looking at the event object's target property (or srcElement on oldIE). Then you can traverse the DOM relative to that element, using standard properties like parentElement (see MDN for reference).

Multiple tables for simliar data in MySQL
You should not be replicating data. SQL is made in such a way that you specify the exact columns you want after the SELECT statement. There is no overhead to selecting specific columns, and this is the way SQL is designed for. There is overhead to replicating your data, and storing in 2 different tables. Consequences of using such a design: In a world where we used only select * we would need a different table for each combination of columns we want in results. Consequently, we would be storing the same data repeatedly. If you needed 10 different column combinations, this would be 10X your data. Finally, data manipulation statements (update, insert) would need to update the same data in multiple tables also multiplying the time needed to perform basic operations. It would cause dat

Saving data into multiple tables from the controller
You'd just save the models that are properties on the view model. Using your example from a tutorial, if you were going to add a new record for each of those two, it might be something like this: db.People.Add(model.People); db.Organizations.Add(model.Organizations); db.SaveChanges(); You can make all the additions/modifications/etc. that you want within the database context (the db object and its properties) and when you call .SaveChanges() they will all get sent to the database. In the above code that database call would end up being two INSERT statements.

using multiple select to join data from different tables
Your query isn't well formed in two respects. The first parenthetical expression makes no sense. At the end of the query, you seem to be LEFT JOINing this subquery to your top-level query. But you haven't provided an ON clause for the LEFT JOIN. You did provide one for the INNER JOIN. select term_year from terms INNER JOIN class_students ON term_year=cs_term_id If I were you I'd format this query like so, add aliases to all the tables (an alias is required for the subquery), and spell out the ON clauses better. I've added the last ON clause, but I can't figure out what you're trying to do with it. select t.term_name_in_nums, t.term_year from terms AS t INNER JOIN class_students AS s ON t.term_id=s.cs_term_id LEFT JOIN ( select term

MYSQL & PHP Display data from multiple tables
I think you want the union all operation: SELECT * FROM main_office union all select * from second_office union all select * from third_office; This appends all the rows together. Your original version was doing a Cartesian product of the tables. That is, the output consisted of all combinations of all rows from all three tables. So, the total rows output would be the product of the rows in the three tables. And, no rows in one table means that no rows are output.

SQL Query to copy data from one table into multiple other tables
You have to write multiple statements, you can't address multiple tables in one statement. Good news is, it's still no big deal. First fill students and classes tables. Something like INSERT INTO students SELECT DISTINCT student_name, date_of_birth, whatever FROM your_huge_denormalized_table; Same story for classes table. Use auto_increment columns (as primary keys) to get your ID columns. On a sidenote, don't use tablenames with a dot in the name. Usually it's like databasename.tablename. You get the idea... Now that you have your two tables filled, fill the table that resolves the m:n relationship. Oh, here you won't need an ID column, just make the primary key (student, class). INSERT INTO classes_students SELECT DISTINCT s.ID, c.ID FROM your_huge_denormalized_table d INNER JOIN

1 you need to use PDO instead of using mysql see christian-giupponi comment above for insturctions on that 2 you have a ";" in your sql statment that should be removed 2 the results of your query do not include the table name 3 you can't access data in the table unless you select it so $row['code'] would not work unless you ask for movies.code in your sql 4 when you are selecting fields with the same name you need to reassign them or you will end up with something wrong $movie_query = mysql_query(" SELECT movies.code, movies.title, movies.year, persons.name as pname, modes.name as mname, persons.birth_date, characters.name as cname FROM data INNER JOIN movies ON (data.movie = movies.code) INNER JOIN persons ON (data.person = persons.code)

Write to multiple tables using data obtained from a view in postgreSQL?
Actually, you can write to a view if you define an appropriate DO INSTEAD trigger (newer Pg versions) or RULE (older versions). In this case, though, I'd recommend extracting the data from the view that you wish to change into a new table (UNLOGGED if using PostgreSQL 9.1+). I'd then write a series of UPDATE ... FROM statements, one for each table to be updated, that join against the change info table. If that's not viable, another way that's much slower but more amenible to being done in small chunks is to do it with a PL/PgSQL procedure, where you grab a few rows from the view or a temp table created from the view, update them in all associated tables, grab a few more rows, and repeat.

ABAP Most efficient way to select data set conditional upon each other from multiple tables
What the most efficient way to do something is, is not always entirely obvious. Transaction SAT (or SE30 in older systems) is an invaluable tool. Here you can test the runtime of your programs, to see which statements are more efficient, and also to see where bottlenecks in your program is. The also have a few very good tips and tricks about performance: Another transaction you could use to measure your performance is ST05. Creating a view may be your best bet as VWEGERT suggested. Handling the fact that you are selecting from the same table (HRP1001) twice would probably be easier in a view. For argument's sake, let's try to combine your select statements into a single select: The first 2 select statements would combine as follows: SELECT t1~orgeh t1~msty t1~mshort t2~positio

How do I summarize and group by various key data contained in multiple mySQL tables?
Well the groupings table should be a join table, and group would have a self reference as well. for example: groups -------- id name parent_id (fk to groups) user_groups ------------ id (auto-counter - pk) user_id group_id This way you can assign a user to a group and a group can have multiple subgroups. However if you want to support subgroups down to multiple levels (ie. a subgroup can have subgroups) then youll want to look into nested set implementations.
